To start with neither ever played in a bowl game and do not understand Bowl season. IT's like the start of a completely new season. The time off alone is a huge factor. Then add into the mix, coaches still feel like the bowl game is a reward, for the players and staff, for a good season. Yes, reward is how bowl games got started. Best of intentions, warm Florida for the players and fans. Disney world, ect. The only guy who took bowls seriously was JoePA, the same guy who ignored kids being raped in his locker room, by a staff member. That's another thread.
So here is how bowl prep works. The conditioning and weight work outs continue. Practices continue as well. Teams that have games after Xmas may get 3 days with family, depends on how important the bowl is. I suspect with the playoffs no break period. Pre Xmas games are just exhibition games, coaches love bowl invites, because it gives them a practice advantage over those who don't make a bowl. Usually same schedule, Helmet/shoulder pads Monday, with conditioning. Tuesday Full pads and full contact, depending on the drill, to the ground. Weds is just like Tuesday, these are the two longest practices of the week 2 1/2 hr. Thurdsay is like Monday and Friday helmet walk thru, special situations, special teams, ect. Saturday game. If game falls during the week, teams keep the same schedule just adjust it to treat game day as Saturday.
In the last 10 years or so coaches have been forced to take bowls more seriously. Allum don't like spending $3-5k to travel to Florida, only to have their team humiliated by a lessor opponent, who took the game seriously as a way to promote their program. But, still it's two teams from different leagues, playing a meaningless game, now hoping not to get humiliated. Guessing who is going to show up and play, is now added into the capping mix.
Of course the playoffs will get two motivated teams. That's where the bulk of my bowl money was won last year.
This year I'll post a couple of small bowl games for fun. But in the playoffs it's 5 fig time. I expect to win both playoff games and the National champ game, they look like easy games to cap, just like last year.
Yes, my picks are free, I make my money on the games, not fleecing you guys, who are just trying to get ahead, with horrible jobs, ugly wives, a drunken father, and a bunch of kids. For those paying for picks, Caveat Emptor.
