On the fiscal side, in my 26 years as a voter, I've watched both Republicans and Democrats take my money. But at least the Democrats tell me in advance they're going to do it. Republicans talk a good fiscal game, but in the 16 years of Republican presidents I've lived under, fiscal deficits are constantly record breaking.
Finally, in terms of where they use the money they take from me, the Democrats are more likely to 'waste' the money on areas like food, housing and health care. The Republicans are too often using my money to kill people in other countries.
Finally, finally, the Republican politician is far more likely to stick his nose into my personal actions which harm no one. Areas like sexual activities, the substances I ingest etc should be no business of the government. At such times, it's usually the Republican that's doing the nose-poking.
Otherwise it's about a tie.

Oops...the second question: Yes, I don't have a problem voting Republican, though for the past 14 years it's only been at the state or local levels.
At that level, much of the solid conservative fiscal sense seems to hold well. And any invasions of personal privacy are usually limited to immediate local areas. Meaning if I don't like it I can travel somewhere nearby to do whatever it is that local politicos are blocking me from doing.
