i vividly recall that game - it was a saturday night game against UC Irvine. the reason i recall it so much - it was my 5th day at espn in feb. 1991. i was supposed to leave around 10P (EST) - but the game started @ 10P and i wanted to cut the hilites and show my abilities right off the bat. no one was really there to do it - so i sorta stuck around and watched the game and cut the hilites. my first shot was with the 6 seniors on the floor. i won't forget that game at all.

1974/75 Indiana team, that had the deepest talent at that time, went 30/1 before losing to Ken****y,if wasn't for Scott May's broken arm in Purdue game. My old dentist was a player on the best ever Knight team that got robbed on the decided controvesial charging call on the defensive end. That best ever Knight team was the precursor of the most storied undefeated Hurryin' Hoosiers team and no team have/had an unbeaten team in 28 years. I'm thinking who's gonna be next but UNLV came close in '91.

I gotta side with the Running Rebels as well. They just flat out crushed teams from the get-go.

In my opinion, the best "teams" are one's that don't lose. TO hard to compare the 70's to the 90's, but if you didn't go undefeated you will have a tough time convincing me your team was the best ever. Realize I am saying best team not talent. I have to go with UCLA and Walton any of those years they didn't lose.Best talent might have been UNLV or even Houston when they lost to NCSTATE.

Nice Thread...I'm glad this is the first one I'm posting in. I was a little too young to get into the teams of the 70's and early 80's, except for maybe some Carolina with Jordan/Worthy. But I've never seen anything like the '90 and '91 Rebels. It's funny how the players developed once they got into the NBA. Augmon wound up being a minor factor and LJ was the man, but never blew up with Barkley still in the league. Just my 2 cents.

Welcome to the RX Huck FINN!

I would say the Walton led teams were the best of all-time.

Walton would have had a field day against the Rebel teams and been unstoppable.

LJ gaurding Bill.........cmon!

The thing most people don`t realize about those NC State teams from 72-74 they were unstoppable and were only stopped because they were inelibible in 72-73, came off probation and beat UCLA and won it all in`74.
Thats why they aren`t as well remembered, they also had to battle Maryland just to get into the tournament...Back then you only got in if you won your conference tournament, which they did (a triple overtime 103-100 thriller over Maryland)...

Top 10 college programs since the 70`s

No.1 DUKE
No.2 UCLA
No.3 Kentucky
No.4 Indiana
No.5 UNC
No.6 Louisville
No.7 Michigan St.
No.8 Michigan
No.9 Maryland
No.10 UNLV
No.11 Kansas
No.12 Syracuse

I've never been a big fan of UNLV basketball because it's been such a crooked program but the Rebel teams of 1990 and 1991 were fantastic. They were a very good basketball team that should have won back to back titles. Had the semifinal game in 1991 been played on the up and up, UNLV would have beaten Duke by 30 points.
