When I was growing up in the 70's, every kid that could skate and hit a slapshot wanted to be Guy Lafleur.

I know it was Wayne Gretzky in the 80's but nothing compares to Lafleur for me.

I still remember being on the old ice ponds of Ontario with dull skates and a super-curved, plastic-bladed hockey stick on a Sunday morning. The cold meant nothing on the morning after watching Hockey Night in Canada and wanting to be Guy Lafleur - and hoping you actually were.

Cincyhugg,

That was incredible post by you, because that was EXACTLY, word for word what you said, how I felt too when I'd be out in the -66 degree weather with the windchill and the blowing snow, playing hockey all day Sunday afternoon from 1 pm till dark, and we never wanted to go home. We had to be forced to go home because of the dark, even if we were starving, we didn't care. But each time I had the puck, I was always Lafleur.. Like you said Cincy, Gretzky was better, we all know, but Guy had that style and finesse, skating down the wing with the hair flying back in the wind and winding up with that blast, and put it top shelf..

It's incredible how many Guy Lafleur's we've had so far here in this thread..

I thought mine would be the only one.

Habsman, you're 27, how in the world can Guy be your hero growing up. You were not even born yet when Guy was playing in his hay days..
