Here is picture of my old wife she was tight end many moons ago. After we marry she go big. They say men marry the womens and expect them to stay the same and the womens marry the men and expect them to change, and neither one happens.

Russ Francis IMO one of most overrated. Was not very popular w/teammates in New England and very injury prone. One anectdote:

Once he caught a pass behind scrimmage which was supposed to be part of a flea flicker as he was supposed to throw ball downfield to Stanley Morgan. Instead he held it and held it and held it and was finally sacked. I forget who the coach was but he was pissed and asked him "what the fvck were you waiting on?" Said Russ, "I was reading the coverage".

Ben Coates is ahead of Russ. I agree w/Journey, Bavaro was great but his prime was all to short cause of injuries.

Never saw Mackey or Ditka in their prime, but I'd go with Casper because he was clutch, too.

Now that you have gone to the trouble to check on Wychek, how many other tight ends have 500 catches? Of those 3 others, how many are in the Hall of Fame?

Happy Holidays!!!

The work you put me through.

Tight Ends in the Hall of Fame (modern era):
Dave Casper 1974-1984 - 378 catches
Mike Ditka 1961-1972 - 417 catches
John Mackey 1963-1972 331 catches
Kellen Winslow 1979-1987 - 541 catches
Ozzie Newsome 1978-1990 - 662 catches
Jackie Smith 1963-1978 - 480 catches

Odly Ben "winter" Coates not mentioned has 499 catches.

Gonzalez is getting close to 500 and of course Sharpe has over 800.

I'll take Ditka as the best all around. There are a couple that catch better but no one was tougher than Ditka.

Winslow gets my vote. He could literally take over a game. All the others on the list were threats but no one could block and catch like him.

Tony Gonzalez is clearly the most gifted tight end to ever play football.
