There are only 3 great MLB announcers:

Vin Scully
Harry Carey
Jack Buck

It's SAD that we will never see the likes of these gentlemen again.

Sorry but the so-called MLB annoucers of today just don't have it in their blood.

For sheer enjoyment of listening, it has got to be Harry Carey - I would put WGN on just to listen to Harrey, he was a riot. For knowledge and all-around greatness, I'd say Jack Buck, but Vin is certainly up there.

Hey Sqrchris - What nickname did Rizzuto use to call a lot of the on-air help on WPIX? Do you remember?

dick stockton. easily. 2nd would be al michaels. he (stockton) is the best in all sports. he makes any game exciting to watch. he could make you think an ant race is the most exciting thing.

skully is annoying. i dont see how any one could like him, guess its just becuase he's been around for a while. it certainly isnt talent. maybe he'd be better with commentary. but his constant stating of the obvious along with the slight but noticeable speech impedements from being old probably makes him the worst of anyone youll tune into with the basbeall package.

the old guy who is espns main guy is god awful and annoying also, i dont know why they let some dum dum AM radio announcer call games for them. the guy they had doing the sox game last night would be a much better choice.. . . someone mentioned costas. why? this is the same whiny idiot who always talks up the fav like when the bulls played or the lakers played. i guess bob thinks only 1 team is playing. he needs to stick to his little HBO shows and keep his corny opinions about wild card in the MLB to himself. i dont even think this guy does play by play anymore. if you were a network manager you wouldnt let him call a game either.

so did scully. i am 99% sure that dwight clark's "the catch": had scully on the mic on tv. i know someone will confirm/refute this but i am almost certain i am right.

and if we are talking about people who did 2 sports - who could forget chick hearn - basketball and "bowling for dollars"

Lmao, I am hoping you are being sarcastic.

I agree with many others on Vin Scully. Great great announcer. Winky, he used to be teamed up with ol' Hank Stram for NFL and I am 99% sure he called that game.

LMFAO!

You know though, the guy is SO bad, he is entertaining. NO WAY I listen to him if I have a wager on the game. Never heard anybody so lost during the course of a play.

Harry Carey

I've met a few people who, like myself, really love their work. I never met Harry, but it was obvious he was one of us. He had a kindred spirit that touched everyone who was fortunate enough to join him for a game. He had an ability to make baseball games more fun and exciting than any other announcer.

Upon my arrival at The Pearly Gates- the Bud's are on me. Thanks for all the good times Harry

I totally agree..his voice was the Cubs. Back in the 80's the cubs game usually was the only one on during the day (no lights) so when I got home i would go watch it...he made alot of non-cubs fans watch the game.
