Exactly. Too many snap judgements nowadays in college football. WVU was a top 10 team 2 weeks ago now they suck.... thats not how it works. WVU will return to form in a MUST WIN game.
You start using comparative scores handicapping college football and your in big trouble. Another thing you see Miami U down you will see Cent Fla up. You see Syracuse down you will see Buffalo up. You see Wazzu down you will see E Wash up.
Smart people told me WestVirgina was waay dwon this yr before season started. Boulder is a tough out for last 30 years. 3.5 on top of that with a coach getting his players in now.
For those who would care to review some stats to this point:
West Virginia is 95th in Total Offense in 2 games...105th in Passing and 50th in Rushing. They finished last year as #3 in Rushing and 15th in Total Offense.
Last year their Defense finished #7 in Total Defense. Afer 2 games, and losing 9 of their 13 top tacklers from a year ago, They are 83rd in Total Defense, 94th in Passing D and 71st in Rushing D.
In short, their attempt to run in th I-Formation has failed miserably and once again they are one dimensional on Offense. The difference is they cannot hit the big pass if they are not popping the run. And at 50th, they are not doing so.
Defense is a HUGE drop in talent. They were Top 20 in both Rushing and Passing D last year. They have issues this year and one returning linebacker is not going to fix it.
The mountain air will make a difference and Hawkins will utilize no-huddle to benefit his team. Colorado's weakness to this point has been the Pass. They are 11th in Rushing Defense so their strength matches WVU. Darrell Scott is a stud and this could very well be his breakout game. He will help the Passing game down the road.
The Statistics don't lie. This is not the same football team as a year ago and the same coach is not coaching them either.
I hope this is what some of you were looking for.
FAR from a must win game as its not a Big East game and with WVU'S schedule one loss took them out of NATIONAL TITLE considerations and thats already happened... this is a BIG game for CU as they are about to have a brutal schedule
anyone who calls WV the "fastest team in the nation" doesnt know anything about college football or has never watched a game...
i havent even read page2or3 of this thread yet...but a lot has to do with emotion...no one gave UL a shot last night and they came to play vs KSU....CU had their state rival in week1...a cupcake in week2 and a big primetime game tonight so i tend to believe that game vs EWash was a look ahead game...
and oh i watched the WV ECU game and WV was DEAD to rights 5minutes into the game...so much for the fastest team in the nation, they were OVERWHELMED vs ECU
im still LOLing "fastest team in the nation" USC would beat them by 6td's....
2 Game sample size does lie.
If you think think that their sample vs Villanova and ECU is a lie.....you are sadly mistaken. Its a sample of things to come.
You don't have a Defense in the Bottom 100 after two games and pull yourself into the Top 20 by year end. The sample will be scarred if their stats were strong......vs. those 2 teams....they SHOULD BE. They are not......
48 points vs Villanova? WTF is this pointing to? Defense has given up 45 points. Thats 22.5 points per game. This offense can and will end the year above that number. I'm not sure what this post is trying to say.
Well, one of these teams is not going to a BCS bowl game. You also mentioned that 'Colorado could not rush the ball for their fucking lives' but Stewart set a freshman record with 165 yards. Colorado left just as many chances for points as did WVU. Hawkins threw a pick when they were moving the ball in WVU territory and also fumbled twice - once deep in WVU territory. Also, the dropped interception before halftime that a girlscout could have run in. Coach Stewart looked like a deer in headlites and I mentioned in an earlier post that coaching transitions can take time even if the are in house. USC probably would beat CU by six touchdowns as they would most other teams outside of the top fifteen. However, that's not who they were playing. Give credit to CU for making some great stops on third down when they needed to. This is not a great WVU team as in the last few years.WVU needs to win this for a BCS bowl. Colorado has no shot at anything further then a December bowl game.
