Billy Donovan Postgame Interview game 6.
Like I said, for the most part Donavan has done an amazing job throughout the playoffs. But the other night could have been a defining moment for him. I wish he would've got in KD's ass during a timeout and told him that the ball had to continue to move, keep passing, trust the offense that got them the lead. And if KD ignored that, I would've said fuck you KD and benched him. Basketball is a team game. Many coaches and players could take a lesson from Pappy. The "team" concept is what has made his teams so successful...
OKC didn't have a big enough lead to slow the game down. We'll just have to agree to disagree about Westbrook/Durant. They could both still get their points and lose. Especially if Thompson/Curry negate it. It's about ball movement and turning the ball over. If OKC can keep it under 15 turnovers, then I give them a decent chance to pull the upset. You really don't move the ball as much the last 5 minutes. The game slows down, defensive intensity and attention to detail goes up a ton. It isn't like they just click a switch and say "Ok we're going to play less optimally now", it is significantly harder to just fling the ball around and get guys open shots with 5 minutes left against a team like GS.
There were some bad turnovers and execution, but for the most part if they win tonight it is going to be with Durant and Westbrook taking it to their man in isolation plays. Tough to attack GS in screen/roll because they can switch everything.
Why not post durant and run the offense through him. He s smart enough and unselfish and he should be able to shoot over the top. I agree, that death line up is too quick and covers too much ground for westbrook to beat 4 guys to the rim. It sucked watching okc turn into the knicks the last 5 minutes, 4 guys watching durant shoot off balance contested jumpers. God, Iggy plays great defense.
Greens ability to stay in front of westbrook kills that adams pnr.

We'll trade you one or the other, we won't give you both..How bout your starting 5 for Durant?
KD has a lot of heart and may very well get his points tonight. But if OKC doesn't win game 7 it will be the end of these two in my opinion. My guess is Durant goes to Boston, and Westbrook will end up a Laker when his contract is up. No one is going to trade for either one as they will have all kinds of money to go after them once they are free agents.
The biggest myth in basketball is you have to drive to the basket with the game on the line. I don't know why people say this but it isn't true at all unless there is a clear opening. An elite defense is gonna be dialed in with their help late in the game and the refs usually are going to be much less likely to call a foul in those spots.
Both Durant and Westbrook sometimes get way too over aggressive in these situations. Durant had Curry on him on switches in game 5 and still tried to go all the way to the basket. Just shoot a midrange jumper.
I just hope KD tries not to act like a point guard tonight. The less 5 foot high dribbling he does the better. I rather him do a jumper from mid range than keep getting the ball stripped from being over aggressive going to the basket...The biggest myth in basketball is you have to drive to the basket with the game on the line.
