I think my opinion has a better chance of reality than his. In any event Syria isn't on my radar of issues I care about.

For sure. The disbursement of Ace's radioactive cloud is too widespread.

As I said we're left with bad choices. However I cannot accept that we here in the US can send a message that unleashing poisonous gas upon innocent non-combatants will go unpunished. That means it will happen again, both inside and outside of Syria. When the US fails to lead the world is worse off.

Wonder what Trump would have done if he was president...

[h=2]Trump Hypocrisy: Blaming Syrian Chemical Attack on Obama[/h]
In 2013, Trump tweeted—repeatedly—that Obama should do nothing in Syria.DAVID CORN AND AJ VICENS APR. 4, 2017 4:28 PM

After a grisly chemical attack left dozens of people dead in Syria on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was quick to blame—of course—former President Barack Obama.

"Today's chemical attack in Syria against innocent people including women and children is reprehensible and cannot be ignored by the civilized world," Spicer told reporters. "These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Assad regime are a consequence of the past administration's weakness and irresolution." Spicer also said: "President Obama said in 2012 he would establish a red line against the use of chemical weapons and then did nothing. The United States stands with our allies across the globe to condemn this intolerable act." (Later in the day, the White House issued a statement echoing Spicer's remarks.)

It will come as no surprise at this point that the Trump White House's position was hypocritical. First, Obama's red line at the time was a threat of US military action against Syria should it continue to use chemical weapons. When Obama asked the GOP-led Congress to authorize the potential use of force against Syria, the Republicans, not wanting to take a firm stance, declined to hold a vote. Still, Obama's move prompted Assad to agree to a Russian-brokered deal to give up his chemical weapons. To a degree, Obama's threat worked.

Whether or not Obama's policy in 2013 was successful, this much is clear: at that point, Trump had an unambiguous position regarding Syria— do nothing. Throughout this episode, Trump tweeted up a storm about Syria. Repeatedly, he declared—occasionally in all-caps!—that Obama should not be messing around in Syria. He said there was no reason to attack Syria or take any action there. Let the Arab League deal with the problem. He was asserting that Obama should not respond to the chemical attacks—a policy certainly in sync with Assad (and his Russian patrons). Stay out of this, Trump demanded, and focus on domestic issues.

Here is a sample of Trump's tweets on the subject:
Now Trump is blaming Obama for not adopting a more forceful stance against Assad, even though Trump back then repeatedly proclaimed that Obama should ignore the conflict (and crimes against humanity) in Syria.

This is not the first time Trump has slammed Obama in this manner. During the campaign, Trump absurdly claimed Obama and Hillary Clinton were each a "co-founder" of ISIS because they had overseen the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. (Neither were in office when ISIS was created, and the troop withdrawal agreement had been signed by President George W. Bush.) Yet in a 2006 interview, Trump had called on Bush to pull all US troops out of Iraq, even if that would lead to more violence and chaos. So as a candidate Trump was excoriating Obama for a policy that Trump had actually called for at the time.

Trump's response to the horrific Syrian attack follows this pattern: castigate Obama and hope people don't bother to review Trump's past positions. Such situational and brazen hypocrisy may be standard operating procedure for Trump. Yet it carries a greater sting when it concerns massacres and war crimes.

Trump on syria:

Obama wants to unilaterally put a no-fly zone in Syria to protect Al Qaeda Islamists http://thebea.st/143tmfM Syria is NOT our problem.

2:58 PM - 29 May 2013

[h=2]Exclusive: Obama Asks Pentagon for Syria No-Fly Zone Plan[/h]

We should stay the hell out of Syria, the "rebels" are just as bad as the current regime. WHAT WILL WE GET FOR OUR LIVES AND $ BILLIONS?ZERO

If Obama attacks Syria and innocent civilians are hurt and killed, he and the U.S. will look very bad!
3:26 PM - 30 Aug 2013

How bad has our "leader" made us look on Syria. Stay out of Syria, we don't have the leadership to win wars or even strategize.

"@mguarino64: @realDonaldTrump " How would you treat the Syria situation if president ?" I'd let them all fight with each other-focus on US!

If the U.S. attacks Syria and hits the wrong targets, killing civilians, there will be worldwide hell to pay. Stay away and fix broken U.S.

"@BigSexyBDAvis: @realDonaldTrump mr trump would attack Syria or no?" No, lets make our country great again as they fight their war!

What I am saying is stay out of Syria.
10:00 PM - 3 Sep 2013

The only reason President Obama wants to attack Syria is to save face over his very dumb RED LINE statement. Do NOT attack Syria, fix U.S.A.

AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA - IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!

Russia is sending a fleet of ships to the Mediterranean. Obama’s war in Syria has the potential to widen into a worldwide conflict.
4:45 PM - 5 Sep 2013

President Obama, do not attack Syria. There is no upside and tremendous downside. Save your "powder" for another (and more important) day!

Don't attack Syria - an attack that will bring nothing but trouble for the U.S. Focus on making our country strong and great again!

Obama must now start focusing on OUR COUNTRY, jobs, healthcare and all of our many problems. Forget Syria and make America great again!
9:19 A

We should stop talking, stay out of Syria and other countries that hate us, rebuild our own country and make it strong and great again-USA!

Sometimes in foreign affairs the US is left with two bad choices. Remove Saddam, or let him stay? "Do something" did not succeed there.

Remove Assad, or let him stay (circa 2013)? Doing nothing failed, miserably.

Now Russia is entrenched in the region and the situation is even more complicated.

Several years have passed. What do we do now?

IMO sometimes the move is to do nothing.

The US cant be everywhere. As longs he only kills his own people, you may have to let him.

So what is the alternative? Go, in carpet bomb the place and kill tens of thousands in the process???

President opens the door to military action in Syria after branding Sarin massacre an 'affront to humanity that crossed lines' and warns: 'My attitude towards Assad has changed'

article-4383544-3EFAB8F300000578-353_964x560.jpg

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that it is now his responsibility to resolve the humanitarian and political crisis in Syria as he opened the door to military action in the country. Trump upped the ante in a Rose Garden press conference after having said earlier in the day that the chemical weapons attack is a 'terrible affront to humanity.' 'My attitude towards Syria and Assad (inset left) has changed,' Trump declared, suggesting with the statement that he may be reconsidering his administration's stance on allowing the Syrian dictator to stay in power. Trump said during a photo op with the Jordanian king and the two leaders' wives in the Oval Office Wednesday afternoon (left) that the massacre was, 'Horrible. Horrible thing. Unspeakable.' In total 72 people died during the gas attack, including dozens of children (top right). Father Abdul Hamid Youssif lost 18 members of his family in the attack,

Beyond a red line: Trump said that a 'many, many lines' had been crossed 'when you kill innocent children, innocent babies...with a chemical gas that is so lethal...'

Haha,
I'm just being facetious.

I don't know what you can realistically do about it right now.

I know Ace, and I was doing same with "cavernous disagreement."

I agree with your second line as well. No good choices here.

This is the part of leading our country, and being the world leader, in which we HOPE to trust people who are more knowledgeable in these situations than we are, to get it right. They rarely do. It's actually refresahing for lack of a better word to not have to listen to the blathering idiots in Obama's State Dept right now...... Hmmm, lemme check their Twitter and see who's writing what?

I'm only speaking from my own moral position Dave. I'm not the guy who has to hit the pillow knowing that I did nothing while a barbaric scumbag blasted kids to kingdom come with poison-laced barrel bombs. Likewise, I don't lose sleep because I put American troops in harm's way. It doesn't stop me from knowing right from wrong. Or lamenting over it.

Here's what should have happened, but the Jew-hating world doesn't have the stomach for it.

In 2013 after the first Assad mass slaughter the IOF should have waited for the next day that Assad took his family out to dinner, or whatever. While they were away Israel should have leveled his presidential palace. Then Obama should have called Asad and said, "That was my idea, Fucker. Your next move is to get the Fuck out."

Assad may not have left. But he would not have responded either. Nor would have Iran. And Russia wasn't even there yet.

I guess over the years I've become hardened to the point where atrocities
like this don't phase me. I've seen up close and personal what war can do
a person. The human species is flawed in so many ways that it goes beyond
comprehension. I will say this, the only solution I see is extermination
of the enemy, whomever or whatever it may be.

I liken it to an infestation of termites, if you don't kill them all they
will multiply and eventually destroy your house.

I'm all for being humane when it comes to dealing with our fellow man but
when it comes to dealing with people who are nothing more than animals they
have to be put down or you risk your own demise.

I hope Trump makes the right call.

That's what Reagan did and it worked out pretty well. But then again Obama is no Reagan.

April 14, 1986: address to the nation

President Reagan: At 7 o’clock this evening Eastern time air and naval forces of the United States launched a series of strikes against the headquarters, terrorist facilities and military assets that support Muammar Qadhafi’’s subversive activities. The attacks were concentrated and carefully targeted to minimize casualties among the Libyan people, with whom we have no quarrel. From initial reports, our forces have succeeded in their mission...
