Herb Sendek. I can't imagine anyone who watches college basketball west of the Mississippi would vote for anyone besides him or Howland. Of those on the list, I guess Pitino.

Calipari has turned 2 nothing programs and taken them to the final 4 with Umass and Memphis but he does recruit some shady kids that programs with real academic institutions don't usually touch.

Please provide some examples of shady kids that other programs don't usually touch? I think that notion is a complete falsehood.

I think Calipari got to UMass in 1990 or 1991. In 1992, I went to a sports bar (Sports Depot in Allston (neighborhood in Boston)) on a sunday afternoon on the last day of the regular season. They had about a 100 TVs and the place was packed. I got them to put the UMass/Rutgers game on 1 little TV in the corner. At one point, someone nearby asked what game that was. When informed, their response was, "UMass? I didn't even know they had a team." That's how far down they were.

Bill Self by far...he is still young...knows how to recruit...gets better every year with x's and o's...will change his style to his players strengths...(this is something Roy wont do)...and has the charisma to coach at a high level program like Kansas...the press absolutely loves this guy and so do the fans....

Bruce Pearl no contest! For starting a new program, a ton of energy, good recruiter, good x's & o's. If you want to be successful right away he's the choice. PT

Ben Howland, just look how he left Pitt and what he has done for UCLA and he has some ethics as he passed on recruiting Renardo Sidney while USC was more happy to pay him to become a Trojan.

Rick Pitino----Great College coach, average at best NBA coach LOL, ---He can recruit the New York area where there is a huge base for talent, He can tell players what they need to do for the NBA since he has coached there unlike many other coaches on that list, on top of that he is a great teacher

Why is Tom Crean not in there. Watch what he does for Indiana's program over the next 2-3 years. They will be back huge. This guy can flat out recruit and coach and given the mess Sampson turned Indiana into he has worked wonders this season with a 2nd string HS team. Just wait til his recruits hit next year.

What he did the NBA, does that really count as coaching?

I said he was an average at best NBA coach even though he did win the division with the New York Knicks back in the late 80's with an impressive 52-30 Record. That happened to be the Knicks first division title in almost twenty years. Pitino has also taken three different teams to the Final Four including Louisville, Kentucky, and Providence (not exactly a powerhouse for basketball). Obviously, he struggled with the Boston Celtics , but he didn't have Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen ,and Rajon Rondo like some other coach does. Calipari is a great coach, but he still hasn't won the big one. He can't be considered the best until he does. Calhoun has won the big one twice so he must be respected also.
