You see, this is just the thing I'm not sure about. Isn't it just enough to just drink a good protein shake after a workout and still see results? Do I really need to take in other protein concoctions before bed, morning and all that? What can I do that's simple right after a workout as far as protein goes? I'll just be more aware and eat more healthy, take a daily multi-vitamin, do some running and lift weights, but I want to see if taking a protein supplement will actually help.

There is no magic in a protein shake.
You could eat a chicken breast and get the same results.

The reason people take protein shakes is because some people have a hard time reaching there recommended GPD of protein with diet alone.

Buy your own protein powder and make your own shakes with a blender rather than myoplex and that processed garbage. That is all..

Portion size is very important. You can eat normal and lose weight if it's not a bunch of junk food and your portions are normal. Running, pull ups, sit ups, push ups is really all you need to do when you exercise. That's all we did in marine boot camp and I saw a couple guys lose 70lbs over the 3 months. They looked like different people.

The protein powder I listed is very reasonable.

You may want to look into cellucor if you want cheeper but it does not taste as good.

And never buy at GNC.

Calorie deficit is another way to say what you are saying.
Its all about energy in and energy out.

Running and jumping is fine for losing weight but it is really a good idea to lift weights.
You will look so much better.

What I gathered on the web is that egg protein is the "Complete" protein but body builders prefer the Whey due to the faster absorption to the muscle. I think Whey is the way to go here.

I forget the name of the stuff I have but it was some vanilla flavor.

And yeah GNC/etc is overpriced I know that much. Also know that you need to make your own with your own blender, don't buy like muscle milk/myoplex etc. That stuff is loaded with garbage

I very much agree with what you are saying.

Anyone here blend a banana in with the protein powder shake? Wondering if the banana would be beneficial to help provide needed carbs. Not sure if mixing sugar and protein is a good idea or if it would hinder the results after a workout.

Replenishing glycogen stores would be at the top of my list immediately post workout... getting some simple carbs, like chop said. The protein-fix can come a little later, though a little protein does help to keep the insulin spike from being so abrupt (for those with that issue). I'm not a huge carb-proponent either, but for everything that I' ve learned for enhanced recovery, that should be the number 1 goal.

I use whey. This stuff had extremely high reviews so I've been using it the last few months.

Chocolate is great. Haven't tried other flavors.

try the pes milk chocolate. It will blow your mind. I've had ON before. It's got a nice profile but the taste isn't even in the same world as PES.
They sell pes at bodybuilding.com. That's where I buy mine. Read the reviews for the pes

I use whey for before and after my workouts for it's faster digestion. Muscle Milk, Cellucor

I use a caseine for slower digesting during the day or at night. Dymatize Elite Caseine XT, ON Gold

I list the ones I do because they can be found cheap at Costco, and honestly, whatever's cheap and on sale you normally can't go wrong with because no matter what anyone says, there is no such thing as a miracle protein powder. I go for taste and easy mixing the most. The PES is good on both of these as well.

Best place to buy for me for 10+ years now has been dpsnutrition.net and occasionally bodybuilding.com

I used to buy from there. Cheap protein. Optimum Whey I think it was called and it tasted pretty good.

Remember Muscletech and their overpriced product? GNC sold the tubs for $90. What a ripoff.
