Judge I remember Flanny started '79 6-0 I think then tore up his leg...He was amazing in his prime...He is doing a nice job rebuilding...I heard him on the radio yesterday, they asked him about Palmer's comments about Brady...

Flanny replied; "Thats just Jim being Jim", it was classic Flanagan

Really the 79-83 team was basically the same...82 was a special year for me too...I was at the final 4 games vs Milwaukee, the park was rocking that weekend! Til game 4

I wasnt a Pirate fan but was caught up with the team, and the song.. My dad was for the orioles, i didnt like them at all then but have come to sort of like them now, guess its my big dislike for the Yanks and RedSox both.. Im telling my friends that im going to pull for the O's this year in the AL for those reasons..

Jman, my real good friend is going to be doing the Huntsville Stars games this year, they are the Brewers Double A team.. he said they have tony gwynn's and cecil fielders sons there, i may get a chance to meet them this year, dont know why i told you that, just felt like it..

Jman, on a softer note, this will be my first baseball season without my dad. He passed away on november 3rd and his 65th birthday is tomorrow.. Ive been thinking of that alot.. We were Braves fans, from the 1970's through today.. I think we discussed each game in detail the following day, especially the last 8yrs that ive owned my convenience store.. he would come out and sit with me and we would talk baseball and the braves game. We would be talking about their misfortunes and fussing on them but they were our team..

Cant help remembering the line from the movie "City Slickers", "when i was 18 and couldnt talk to my dad about anything-- we could still talk about baseball". It and my dad will be on my mind alot the first few games.. Baseball is so nostalgic, thats why i love it.. Not just for gambling...

Heard a quote from Baltimore in comparing Reggie Jackson to Brooks Robinson that was very good.. "People name candy bars after Reggie but they name their sons after Brooks".

I have seen you mention your relationship with your dad on a few occasions... I can only say, many don`t have that great bond you oviously had with him....The Braves were so awesome for the past decade, I`m sure that gave you two many happy times...Baseball always had a way of bringing father and son`s together or keeping them together...Like in Field of Dreams!

As for Brooksie , they don`t make em any better then him!

I was the biggest Orioles fan you could imagine, not anymore though...that era is over, I don`t really have the same passion for my hometown team fan standpoint anymore.
I guess its a little of alot of different things, the team being down for so long, poor mismanaged ownership, the state of the game in general...it doesn`t bother me much anymore.
I hold onto the glory days of being an Orioles fan as a kid, it was a special team for many years, when I was coming up we were always right at the top, I use to go to 25-40 games as a teenager...It was very risky too , getting that transfer bus at 11:30 at night waiting in downtown Baltimore to get back home,lol..

As a kid I use to love the Reds, the Big Red Machine! Morgan and Rose and Foster,I hated the Dodgers, but I loved baseball period, Rod Carew, Cecil Cooper,Fred Lynn,Reggie,...I don`t think anything will ever compare to those days in the 70`s and 80`s as an Orioles fan...

Back to your Dad, I guess with your strong faith it helps alot, atleast you had that strong bond my friend, some of us never had that..

Since my first game was at RFK in 1969 during a short term visit from my home in Dallas/FtWorth, I of course was a Senators/Rangers fan. But except for the Billy Martin era, the Rangers of course blew horse cock...

But at age 10 (1970), I read a biography of Brooks Robinson and became a bigg a fan of Earl Weaver and the O's.

Also liked the Big Red Machine and hated the Dodgers and Steve Garvey.

1971 was also the first year I started playing Stratomatic baseball and somehow I usually ended up running the Pirates team.

When The Boss took over in NY, I caught onto the drama of The Bronx Zoo, still hating the Bums from Los Angeles.

Also liked Herzog's Royals and Cardinals into the 80s.

All along watched with perennial bemusement at the various incarnations of The Little Rangers.

So of course enjoyed their ascension to true contention during the back half of the 90s.

Moved to Tampa Bay in 1998 and lost a lot of my zeal for the game on accounta the Devil Rays blowing ass and also their playing indoors (VERY STALE).

Trying real hard to get into their 2004 club which seems very legit at long last.

Can't wait for Sunday (The real first pitch of season).

I do like the Sox actually...The Sox fans though, I never cared for them..They`d show up in Baltimore talking trash like they owned the town lol...They were ALWAYS like this Fish, they get great support down here....Back in the old days sometimes it was hard to tell who scored if you were out getting food, the Sox would score and the crowd would go crazy, we`d come out the ramp and see Jim Rice just homered lol, wtf!?
It was always fun teasing the Boston fans, so much material to work with lol...Its all in good fun...

Barman that was a great post, its always cool to hear oldtime baseball fan stories...We both hated Garvey and the Dodgers....They were the Reds rivals, I guess that was it...I can`t think of any Dodger player I ever liked, except when Eddie ended up out there, man that was a rough time for me...
