I know this is just a joke, but being "supposed to" or expected to support the troops really sets a terrible precident.

no I really think people should support the troops.

they protect our homes, schools, children and us.

even though they may be sent to fight in wars that some people may or may not support. these guys are there to fight and kill anyone that may attack our homeland.

sure there are countries that do not have Armies. They rely on other people to protect them. countries like that support the troops of whatever country is protecting them at the moment.

many americans feel that the liklyhood of the US mainland being attacked are slim. They may be correct, that is because our troops have fought and killed many of our enemies to make that a reality.

if you don't think that support of the troops should be manditory... well that is ok, they will still protect you and your right to not support them.

my first post was a joke. but like all jokes they must contain a sliver of truth.

I was making fun of the people that want credit for supporting the troops, just like people that wnat credit for taking care of their kids, or paying taxes.

Please forgive the spelling and gramatical errors.

There are US homes, schools and children in Iraq?
This is breaking news to me...

Here in costa rica there is no "offensive" army. Never mind the fact that it was abolished for paranoid reasons on the part of the president in 1948...
Nevertheless, each citizen here has an equal say in criticizing their govt. There is no, "they protect your freedoms."
Freedoms are protected here, at least from what I know, by law, not by an army.
And that's the main difference between a military state and a democratic one.

No, I understand the Joke, I've seen Chris Rocks stand up bit. Funny stuff.

My point is that there is probably an equal likelyhood in the US mainland being attacked or the US turning into a facist imperialistic country where even if they are defending me, supporting the troops is unthinkable.

If you were living in Berlin in 1940 as an everday office worker, the troops were defending you, but that was no excuse to be supporting them.

I realize both of these situations are VERY unlikely, which is why it doesn't really matter either way.
