What's the craziest thing a "pro" athlete has ever done during play?

How about doing a back-hand-spring on his way out to the shortstop position?

Nobody beats the Wiz...

The one I am thinking of is when he broke the whole basket foundation and everything..Dont think he ever smashed a backboard although I could be wrong. It took like 30 minutes to get a whole new basket in there. I know he played for Orlando then but not sure which year it was. Could it have been when they were playing Hakeem and the Rockets in the playoffs?

I believe one was against New Jersey, and there was once more, same year.

I'm like a degenerate with this thread. I just can't get enough..

This is the freakiest thing Ive ever seen at a sporting event. I think it was expos vs. reds, late eighties or early nineties. Hitter swings, bat flies out of his hand, and goes over first base dugout into the crowd and hits an old lady.

Later in the game another hitter comes up, swings and lets go of bat into the crowd, same old couple gets hit, so THEY GET UP AND LEAVE. One of the most odd things I've ever witnessed at a sporting event (espn featured this on sportscenter.)

In the mid 70's the knicks were playing the Celtics in the new garden..It was I believe 73 when the knicks had that great team..Lucas, Monroe,Frazier, Debush, Bradley, Reed, Jackson, Riordan, Red was the coach..With the game winding down the knicks were up 4 with 15 seconds to go..They were favored by 3..The exact #'s I dont remember but the act will live in sports history..Paul Silas or Hondo inbounded the ball and through a pass to a celtic guard..Instead The Pearl..Monroe..stepped in and intercepted the ball under the Knick basket, baseline left..The Pearl turned and shot at the Knick basket and made the two pointer..He covered for the Celtics on a shot that he looked great on, but at the wrong basket..The clock runs out and the Celts cover on Monroes BOO>>BOO>>..The NY Post and all the papers had a field day with his miscue..
Many years later at a Knick Fantasy Camp I asked the Pearl about this obvious blunder in his career..Like the true great player that he was..He took the 5th.."I am not sayin, I am just sayin"

Tony Bartirome running to third instead of first on a single, last game in AAA before being called up. The genius who threw the ball to the kid then took it back when he saw runners advancing, wasn't the third out. Cansecos header for a HR. Jimmy Pearsall climbing up the backstop and not coming down. Willie Stargell sliding into 2nd and coming up 10 ft short then calling timeout to "prevent" being tagged out. The fighter who took his robe off in the ring forgetting his boxing shorts. The FB player who scored a TD only to get blasted by the cannon in the endzone (my fav)...ScottyS

Jim Marshall's wrong-way touchdown. It wasn't deliberate but it certainly was crazy. The other is Doc Ellis tossing a no-no while tripping on acid. Read on....

Los Angeles, April 8, 1984- Former Pittsburgh Pirates' pitcher Dock Ellis says he was under the influence of LSD when he pitched a 1970 no-hitter against the San Diego Padres.

Ellis, now co-ordinator of an anti drug program in Los Angeles, said he didn't know until six hours before his June 12, 1970 no hitter that he was going to pitch.

"I was in Los Angeles, and the team was playing in San Diego , but I didn't know it. I had taken LSD..... I thought it was an off-day, that's how come I had it in me. I took the LSD at noon. At 1pm, his girlfriend and trip partner looked at the paper and said, "Dock, you're pitching today!"

"That's when it was $9.50 to fly to San Diego. She got me to the airport at 3:30. I got there at 4:30, and the game started at 6:05pm. It was a twi-night doubleheader.

I can only remember bits and pieces of the game. I was psyched. I had a feeling of euphoria.

I was zeroed in on the (catcher's) glove, but I didn't hit the glove too much. I remember hitting a couple of batters and the bases were loaded two or three times.

The ball was small sometimes, the ball was large sometimes, sometimes I saw the catcher, sometimes I didn't. Sometimes I tried to stare the hitter down and throw while I was looking at him. I chewed my gum until it turned to powder. They say I had about three to four fielding chances. I remember diving out of the way of a ball I thought was a line drive. I jumped, but the ball wasn't hit hard and never reached me."

The Pirates won the game, 2-0, although Ellis walked eight batters. It was the highpoint in the baseball career of one of the finer pitchers of his time, and arguably, one of the greatest achievements in the history of sports.
