In NA people find sitcom re-runs to be more entertaining than hockey. So I will go with nba.

I think it is a regional thing. I live in Southern CA also and I do not know any one either. I think my neighbor's brother-n-law/roomate does but he is from MN

Hockey coverage has improved greatly the past few years. NBCSN sport channel does a nice job.

I don't know how many times I turned down a private box for the Raptors. I just have zero interest. I love to watch March Madness, but the NBA is looking too much like soccer with potential career ending cramps and turned ankles.

Hockey pulling away... 11-6 more exciting than NBA

Although 10 out of 17 will bet more on NBA... I imagine because it gets way more coverage, it's a little more "known" as NHL feels more like anything can happen on any given night sport (like MLB)

i also lived in LA before moving away. when the Kings won the cup and had the parade. 1 of the local news papers showed a picture of the crowd at the championship parade. nothing but mexicans. i said to myself. i wonder how many of those "fans" could name 5 players on the team.
id rather watch nba playoffs over anyother sport. thats just my preference.

Elephant in the room. People find it more exciting watching a sporting event where they can more closely relate to its participants. Excluding Canadians considering its their national sport.

Just so you know, our National Sport is not hockey. It's lacrosse.
