Depending on the system I'm on, either Debian with KDE as the user interface, or Windows ME with Aston.

In either event my attention span is way too short for standard GUI's so I am constantly tweaking them via KDE/Aston and other tools. I even experimented with an Aston gambling interface, where the entire UI of the computer was geared towards fetching lines, looking for new postshere and at other fora, pulling sports news RSS feeds directly onto the dektop, etc. whcih was fun if incredibly time-consuming and pointless.

I hear you man. I just love to tweak. I've never understood why people who spend a lot of time in front of their computers (like, I daresay, the majority of people at the Rx) don't do more to make them their own ... it's all software ... it's all customisable.

Seriously, using a program like the above-linked Aston or TenMiles' Flash Wallpaper one can create a desktop environment that is the ultimate in personalisation. The "chronic gambler" desktop that I worked on was actually extremely cool; just never finished it up. Lines, scores, news, all kinds of stuff loaded up for you automatically whenever the computer was put online, with relatively little system bloat.

Same thing can be done for investment tracking and other similar stuff; all it takes is time and know-how.
