Why would you want kickers to have more importance? If anything, they already have too much.

I agree in fantasy...

But the extra point is a waste.. 99% conversion is pointless. I love a change, even if it doesn't significantly impact hte game, just the thought it can.. it needs that excitement.

It's just gonna be stupid when a team makes some miraculous drive to tie the game but instead of the lock XP, everyone has to wait for a 33 yard kick.

I think it might take some emotion and excitement out of the game. Also, more than a few kickers are going to miss big XPs and so much goes into football that your just making the kickers be way more important than they should be.

Pretty much what I've been saying the whole thread.

I really think this is the most significant rule change in at least 20 years. Maybe since instant replay

I don't think kickers were ever meant to be as insignificant as they have become over the years.
Afterall the game is called football not throwball.

I imagine Lots of teams are going to start having extra point specialist on each team like they do long snappers.

Im sure some of the teamS with elite kickers won't have extra point specialist but I could see at least a dozen teams or so having one guy just for extra points

And if college follows the NFL on this rule down the road it is going to really change the college game big time.
A lot of times college will change a rule just because the NFL does . I have no idea if college will copy this rule or not but if they ever did it would change the college game drastically.

I could see some college teams going for 2 every single time they score a TD

The more I think about this extra point specialist thing the more I believe this is going to happen.

They will expand the rosters a few spots during the CBA to allow that.

I could see a kicker playing till he's 50 with this new rule.

I imagine someone like adam vinatieri sticking around for years and years just kicking extra points.

Heck who knows maybe Morten Anderson might come out of retirement. Haha

Patsfan I thought of something else.

I think this is going to change the game for a while till the league adjust.

Now that teams are going to be putting an emphasis on making 33 yard FGs it won't be long before that 96% turns into 98%.

Another case for extra point specialist. If you have one single player on the team that has no other job besides making 33 yard field goals and nothing else I imagine the % are going to start going up for 33 yard FGs eventually.

Yeah I understand what you are saying better now. A minor change can go a long way. I still don't think teams will go for 2 more based on Expected Points difference but you will see a few more key misses from 33 yards than 20 and the game played differently after that point.

All in all it is pretty dumb to me, just adds more kicker variance to the game. Just make a TD worth 7 points with no XP and a 2 point conversion means you get 6pts or 8pts.

It's like they just wanna throw the white dudes a bone, what's next the NBA has OT decided by a FT contest?

not sure why they needed to make this change

you want to add drama? you want to encourage more 2 point conversion attempts? put the ball at the 23 yard line, make it a 40 yard attempt

I just heard a really interesting angle on this from a former nfl player, Jay Foreman. He said he thinks teams might try and find unique ways to get the offense forced into a hold. He referenced playing on the wing as being one of the hardest things to do, because the D usually puts one of it's best athletes there to edge rush and try to block the kick. So say you get called for a holding. Now you have a 2pt conversion from the 12, or a 1pt fg from the 25, roughly 43 yds. So what are the odds of making a 43 yd fg?

There will be all sorts of angles, but look for the usual smart coaches that are ahead of the curve and out of box thinkers, like Bellichek, to take the greatest advantage of this type stuff, like they always do.
