I thought of another one:

Paying the sign-up fees to join Amway
(and Excel Communications for that matter).

I never did anything with either of them, because I couldn't
bring myself to sell crap to my friends and family.

I bought a food dehydrator maybe fifteen years ago. It actually makes some pretty good stuff but the process of making it took too long.

The most recent dumb purchase was two Christmases ago we had this little gift exchange thing at work where you buy a gift and pt it in a pile and you pick a number and either pick an unwrapped gift or you pick an already picked gift from somebody else. yada yada yada.... Well everybody usually just buys a gift that only they would want so nobody would pick it and you end up getting stuck with some bunk gift.

We are supposed to pay $50 and the company matches $50. So I thought I was 15 years old again and got it in my head to buy a skateboard. Didn't realize how much weight I gained since my high school days and how I am not invincible anymore. I think I got on the skateboard once or twice and now I am too afraid to start trying some of my old skate moves because I think I am going to break my neck or crack my head open ala Natasha Richardson.
