Now this kinda posting in the CR forum is a good read, was almost about to give on the RX as entertainment or good info.

I visit the caribbean and central america allot, like 30 times a year. All I know is that in CR, the people are less experienced in the "cosomopolitan" aspects of what "gringo's" (canadians, americans, and any one really white with english as a first language) thus being a banana belt country, crime, sex and drugs, throw in the gambling and it is sin city. What do you expect. put all of that on public display in NY, London, Hong Kong like it is in every hotel and tourist trap in CR and crime goes on.

That being said, I like CR and will always go there.

AB O.G - re: "Racists cops shot an unarmed black man who was only speeding"

How do you know that these cops were racist? You don't, of course. It's statements like this that causes thinking people who hate racism (like me) to tune you out.

Uber Tout... does it change the fact that two cops shot an unarmed man who was not commiting any major crime? And how do you know that I do not have more proof that these cops are racist? You don't. What I wrote was not to explain why the cops were racist. My intention was to express the fact that even in the "good neighborhoods" there is major amounts of crime that gets covered up. You are focusing on a point I made that I did not back up due to lack of time. And you are blinding yourself to the real point of what I wrote.

If your point was that crime exists in good neighborhoods, then you made it (quite well, I thought). However, the race info you raised was inaccurate and as you said, unsupported for lack of time. That's what I was calling you on.

I agree that crime occurs everywhere, but don't you think that crime in good neighborhoods gets MORE media attention, not less?? A shooting in Laurel Canyon is BIG news, while several shootings in South Central are not.

Come on people. What if we believed the Pat Buchanan's of the world and said foreigners were ruining the US and then found every way we could to keep them out. What an unbelievable disaster that would be to the US economy, despite what the small minority think. Countries that are able to attract lots of immigrants should be proud, it means you are doing something right. You know this all hit me during my last trip down to CR. I was walking down the street and saw a sign for a Western Union office I think it was, or maybe some other money sending service. Here was a sign and it said send money to a long list of countries. The obvious ones of Colombia and Central America, but also places like India and Cuba were on there, not exactly the places you first think about it being places for immigrants to a supposedly "third world" country. Now go to Mexico and you will NEVER see anything like that because while there are some immigrants there, it isn't exactly a big draw on the world map. Costa Rica has become a magnet of people whose dreams can't be fulfilled at home. It surely isn't the US, but it is a striking thing for a small country that most don't think of as being on the map for immigrants.

Now you can take it as a bad thing if you want because a small percentage of these immigrants are out to do bad things, or you can look at it positively and note that being a desirable place for immigrants is a step on the way to a better economy for a country. You acquire working people with skills that will contribute to the betterment of society. If you get beyond the rhetoric of a Buchanan you realize as a whole immigrants bring huge benefits. Not only do they pay more in taxes than they take out, but even better is they improve the ability of a country to do more than it could being just inward looking. So the next time you think that immigrants only bring bad things to CR, think again. And think you must be doing something right or else they would go elsewhere.

real estate for sale and rent

Contrary to popular belief, scandals and crime in rich cities are not more vulnerable to media attention. In order for the media to find out, someone has to say something. In rich areas everyone just wants to keep to themselves and have everything be the way it is. Out of 3 teachers in my high school that were jailed for sexual crimes against underage students, only one was given media coverage. The only reason that teacher was given media coverage is due to the unusual situation: a female teacher had sex with a female student. The other two teachers that were jailed went unnoticed by everyone but the students. When 2 white cops shot down an unarmmed black man for speeding, the only reason there was any media coverage at all was that there were various witnesses who testified to the killing, as well as the many racial slurs spoken by the officers. Yet in that "good city" that I went to school at in California, there were various murders, shootings (drive-bys included), rapes, robbery. In my high school you could get your hands on cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, and acid within an hour just by talking to a few people. I'm not saying that Costa Rica is better than U S and I'm not saying that it's worse. I'm just making my point to everyone who has been doggin on Costa Rica. Crime is everywhere. Just because you did not see it while you were in the states, it doesn't mean that it wasn't going on.

I agree Judge. There are still some who talk about CR having this stigma, but hopefully it is waning. What a horrible reputation for a country to have.

Not so, OG. The media finds out via tips as you state, but also via police reports, arrest records, and police scanners.

Residents of 'Rich' areas suppress violent crime? Ridiculous.
