I think about this often a feel that it is used too often for a broad range of categories.
I think I have narrowed it down for my personal definition - Most heroes don't make it home, and the ones that do probably shouldn't have because they layed their life down for another.
To some it is a sports figure, a parent, teacher. to some it is a fireman or a soldier
