What is a current processor for a computer?

I have a pentium 4 1.6 GHz which I know is a fossil. Is there a pentium 5 or has Athlon taken over? Are there different versions of Athlon? Thanks to anyone that can help.

Part B to the question are graphic cards hard to install? Want to run Civilization IV and need to upgrade.

Intel Core 2 Duo or whatever AMD is pumping out these days is probably what you are looking for

athlon amd x2 is there version of intels core 2 duo if im not mistaken

for civ IV u will need at least a 512mb graphics to get decent graphics but they shouldn't be too hard to install if you can find a guide on the internet - many specialised tech forums have them.
