My friend got mugged last night at 6pm leaving the "office" in pavas. Right by Plaza Mayor. The dude held a knife to her and stole her purse and cell phone.

The cops drove by one minute after it happened, so she waved them down and told them she had just been robbed. Their response: "I'm very sorry but we don't work in that area."

WTF?????? :icon_conf :icon_conf :icon_conf :icon_conf

Honestly

From own experience, they might have been involved in the event.

A long time ago, when I was a heavy duty pot smoker, I got searched at Calle de la Amargura.. all they found was some Zig Zag papers on my wallet.. THE PIECE OF SHIT TOLD ME: I am keeping these to roll my joints...!!

Also, last year I paid like 40k in bribing cops due to my expired license and expirede RTV.

In this country you kill some one and with 10k you can get off the hook.

Sometimes good, sometimes a bitch... Corruption is part of Costa Rican Culture

Yes could be. I have lived her long enough to know how it works. But then why bother driving by?

Because..

THEY ARE A BUNCH OF NO LIFE DICKS...

However you can't be sure they were involved. A lot of cops in this country are hooked to crack and coke... Don't be surprised if 20 minutes later they were exchanging your friend's goods by a couple of grams.

Not too long ago I read in the news that some cops in Jaco were mugging the muggers.

They saw the guys stealing, let them do it and then go to take what they stole!!

They found at their places I don't know how many laptops, wallets, etc.

And I truly believe that it doesn't happen in Jaco only.

good answer Derek. Most of the time they do nothing and when they actually do something they need to outnumber thier foe 20-1 like in the Carpio, and then still f**k it up and look like total ignorant non-trained morons.

Watchdog, I dont mean to play the smartass holier than thou idiot here but if there were no people that would pay those SOB the bribes perhaps things would start changing over here, perhaps for the next one you can just tell him to write the freaking ticket and you get to enjoy the discombabulated look on their face when they dont get their expected bribe

Good point. Ending corruption starts with the people that are paying them off.

I'm not saying that I have never paid a cop off in this country, but I try my hardest not to. Plus if they write me a ticket on my GA DL, all I do is just trash the ticket.

plus I think 40k is more than the tickets, 2k for the license and 10 for RTV, plus taxesnot more than 20k

Cops suck in every country.

We sponsored a poker tournament at the Aurola and as some of our guests were returning from the Del Ray crossing the T park, they were stopped a group of cops who asked them what they were doing in the park and if they had anything in their pockets. They were then asked to empty their pockets. When they had their wallets and passports returned, they were short $800+. Our guests then ran into some of my employees as they passed in the lobby and told them what happened. They proceeded to the local police station where our guests ID'ed the cops. The Chief of police said he couldn't do anthing, but if they wanted to, they could file a complaint at the Departmento de Justicia.

Kids in the US say, "I want to be a cop when I grow up." Kids in CR say, "I want to be anything but a cop when I grow up." Cops in CR get paid $400/mo and get absolutely no respect. Put in a situation like that, I too would except bribes, but you are right, the offender is the individual who pays the bribe, not the cop who accepts it.

Guess what? 2 millionaire rap artist ( each of them payed hundreds of thousands in taxes) got murdered a few years ago and the police dept encharged of the investigation settle it as an unsolved case. The press and some independent documental productions addressed the case to corrupt police officers to be the ones responsable for such tragedy.
That's a wrong statement, corruption isn't part of a specific society or culture, is a disease of the human being.

That's why the famous frase "fuck me and the police" fits so right in all this.
