Conan...I haven't looked at the numbers in depth, but I think Stanford could be the running dogs this week against USC. So 22 points is pretty generous in this spot. As for WSU, after last week I know this team can officially be listed as hopeless. I took the under in the Arizona-WSU game because I thought WSU might actually be able to run the ball on the Cats undersize front 7 and keep the score a little lower than expected. But that didn't work out so well for me. Although if I had taken WSU on the spread I would have won. But they still only had 200 total yards against Zona...So I'm now officially done with BOTH Washington teams. I think the best team in that state is probably Eastern Washington. It's a tossup between them and the Seahawks...LOL

I find that kind of funny too GoSooners. At times I have wondered if Paul Wulff wanted to crawl back to his office at EWU and hide in a closet there.

Meanwhile UW seems to have found a RB and Fouch at QB has come a long ways since Locker was hurt. UCLA's best chance at covering a game is when they play at home and the game has some meaning. Neither of those conditions are present in the Husky game so I took a stab at UW for those reasons. It's no longer about Ty Willingham anymore. UW is in this for player pride, especially the seniors.

I probably played on Washington a week too early. But they looked like they were going to cover against ASU until the 4th quarter. I'm sure they have a much better chance this week against a UCLA team who doesn't seem to have any defense away from home.. I may retract my no play statement on the Washington schools. Well, one anyway.

Hey, don't forget the APPLE CUP!! There's a guaranteed winner somewhere in there for sure! Funny thing is that most fans in Washington have been seen arguing who is WORSE, speaking of themselves that is. Many seem to be taking it all in stride.

News on the local front... NOT what I wanted to hear!!

Canfield starts for the Beavers Saturday.
That's a mean hit I really didn't want to take.
Riley says he's fine with it. Right.

I have Cal +3 as my top play this week. I like the setup here with Oregon St. coming off a pounding of another Pac-10 team. Cal losing by a decent margin to USC and being on the road....and only a 3 point underdog? All the variables added together makes this a solid play for me...and look at the common opponents with OSU beating a USC squad at home...

SizzleChest,

I'll know by Friday if I'm going to back off this pick. I really don't give the Beavers the same chance at taking down Cal with Canfield at QB. Rooting for them is one thing, but keeping my money on a team that's lost something important I didn't expect to see after I made the bet it is something entirely different.

Well, with basketball season coming up at least the Washington fans still have the Sonics....oops! I forgot. We got that too...It's been a tough year for the folks in the Pacific Northwest. I hope something good comes out of this for them. Hopefully they'll get a dynamic new coach to take Willingham's place.

conan,

thanks for the news on Canfield, you are an invaluable resource for Pac 10 info...I feel the same way, Canfield just doesn't have the mobility or leadership that Movaeo sp? does...will be curious to see what you decide...think you can get some Cal +3 at plus money right now if you want to hedge a little...

This Cal team has been absolute money for me this season betting both for and against. My feeling is they are going to cover here. If you really look at this in an objectional way, OSU really hasn't played a quality opponent since they lost to Utah 6 weeks ago. Cal has played USC, Oregon and Arizona in three out of the last four weeks. I think they are a team that at this point in the season is more battle tested than OSU. It should work in their favor here. Plus it's hard to fault their covering the spread in the last 3 weeks against those quality opponents. And 5 out of the last 6.

Well OK Pags. I think it's a done deal that Moevao won't be starting. I thought for sure he would start because he was throwing medium range balls in practice last Friday but didn't start Saturday... figuring that Riley was just playing it conservative and giving him an extra week. Now it looks like Lyle will need a couple weeks off to heal.

I'm still not counting the Beavers out here because they are a very scrappy team, difficult to defense and move the ball on. But Cal has been a thorn in their side at Reser.... the 2 teams that have been a problem at Reser are UCLA and CAL.

Perhaps this is a good year to keep bucking the trends as OSU soundly thrashed UCLA at the Rose Bowl for the first time in almost 10 years last week. The conference is down but the Beavers appear to be up this year. Maybe they can hold service at home instead of this being a road team series as it has been for the last 4 years.

Of course you know what happened the last time Cal's QB Riley played in a game vs the Beavers. No doubt that play has haunted him to this day. Last year it turned out to be the defining moment in Cal's season sending them into a tailspin. That's why they probably have the game circled. That goes double for QB Riley. The question is does he have it in him? I for one doubt that he does.

I'd even go as far as putting Cal on upset alert from now on if the Beavers handle them with any sort of ease. They be kicking themselves too hard. Who's to say that they won't implode again (for the 3rd year in a row.) Keep that in mind just in case. It's worth noting because USC did pull the rug out from under them last week. How will they react to that?

The Beavers stand to gain a lot if they do win this. They'll be in the top 20 with a Rose Bowl berth in their crosshairs if they win.

I don't think that line will drop from -3 bro. I'll buy the whole thing back of Moevao is a no go on Friday. I'll be checking up on Cal's health in the mean time.

Keep in mind that the Pac-10 has about 10 million reasons to protect Oregon State these next 3 games, and we've seen this conference's act when it comes to that

Shane Morales, who injured his hip on Friday and was unable to play against UCLA save for the first series, incurred the injury during a Friday walk-through drill when he tried to dunk the pigskin over the crossbar, apparently something he's done without incident in the past.

This time, however, he came down awkwardly and the upshot was he missed the Bruins game. :ohno:
Morales has been a huge part of the Beaver aerial attack and success this season, and it is expected he will be good to go by Saturday.

If Moevao also goes, I'll not hedge.
He's still listed as day-to-day.

You are the only guy I've heard with any kind of reasoning why the Beavers are a cinch to win a Rose Bowl berth. I don't give a rip who's conspiring to do what. I just hope 10 million reasons is enough. I couldn't think of a more deserving school or more deserving head coach to unseat USC.

Besides that, what a setup for a play on Oregon St. in the Rose Bowl. The line will probably be -10 or more against them if PSU represents the B-11 which looks like how it will be.

An interesting "what if"...

What if Oregon State wins Saturday?
Playing @ AZ & at home in the Civil War remains.

They seem to own an edge this year over Oregon, mostly because of QB comparisons (pass offense included) and having a little better defense (especially against the pass) -- plus Oregon hasn't beaten them at Reser for a good long time.

But anaother interesting part of their remaining schedule is the Arizona game @ Arizona. Zona has had their problems with decent rushing offenses all year and their LB's are not-so-good compared to a few teams in the Pac (USC, Cal, Or St) so they are vulnerable. The Beavers should be able to run on them. But the kicker is how the Beavers have owned the Wildcats for quite some time.

Of course they will have to take it one week at a time, but for the Beavers, that makes this Cal game even more critical in the overall picture.

I can honestly say I'm really interested in seeing what the side/total will be for the AC.

I like the Ducks a lot because Zona can't handle teams that run the ball. Oregon has one of the top rushing offenses in the country. They will need to play some keep away from Tuitama and the Cat's O, but I think that's doable. Oregon's DB's are actually pretty good but they don't seem to be able to hold up to a sustained passing attack which Zona can do. (Sonny Dykes blood is related to the TT Red Raiders and it shows in their offense.) But as far as overall power ratings go, Zona (who's DL leaves quite a bit lacking) doesn't come close to the Ducks. It looks like it will be bombs away here with points and points being scored... and the Wildcats not quite being able to keep pace with Oregon, or hear Tuitama's check-offs at the line at Autzen.
