I agee with ya on this game Lou.....I'm just gonna dabble around in a few of you guys' posts each week now and try and give some insight Lou. Wanted Recordkeeper to include me in following with you guys, but he never responded. I've had a decent start, 6-3, and I hope it's ok with you if I share my opinions with you throughout the year, in your threads.......Thanks......

hache man

TRK might not take me on either. If not, I'll start a thread week 2 with my cumulative picks (I'm doing 5 each week) and if you want to post your cumulative there...

Go Vikings!!!

Good luck.

Good idea Oorang, but I wanted my records kept right there with everyone else's. I really wanted to prove something this year.

I've posted my plays here and there in the past, and if dug really deep, there's not many losers compared to wins, but, people tend to have their favorites here as to who they like to follow, and if they feel safe that way, I don't want to sway their decisions. It's okay, I enjoy sharing my views and opinions in others' threads also......

Let me tell ya now that this Detroit train is still running steam churning. AZ was just a warmup for Mooches team. GB doesn't have the defense to slow this train down. Sorry BL but the pick in this game is the OVER!

Go right ahead. Your Bucs looked pretty impressive on defense last night.

big lou you were dead right about philly

last year was there true shot at the title

this year going to the nfc champ game for the 3rd time looks bleak

they are without 3 def starters including dawkins this week vs pats and they play the bills next week

they can go 0-3 beginning of the season

Big Lou - Are you not concerned about the WR injuries on GB?

Lou:

Do you have any systems or angles for the Seahawks/Cards or Bears/Vikes? Not usually high on this tool of handicapping but am interested on inquiring about it on these two games. Thanks

As usual I respect your opinion, so here are some questions...

Miami: Can't see them covering this as Jets, and Testerverde know Dolphins too well. RF???

Panthers: Is this entirely based on MNF/week one turnaround, or on shortening game, Panthers team strengths?

GOOD LUCK!

The only crime Miami committed (besides the penalties and turnovers) is losing to Houston. I'd hazard that Houston could be just as good as the Jets.

Houston has a good d and so do the Jets. But Miami's offense (2 to Chambers, 1 to Ricky last week) will be fine vs. Testaverde looking to hand off Curtis Martin. Five field goals from Houston and the Jets don't even have any JetSkins left to save them.

Was it a factor the Herman Edwards had Vinny only throw one pass(?) in the last preseason game.

This line will have to improve:
V. Testaverde (15-24, 105), C. Martin (15-48)

I like Miami as Vinny gets his feet wet.

Louie, what is the system for a chalk coming off a shutout loss. Will probably have nothing vs. a team also coming off a shutout loss.

1) Packers -6.5 (1 unit) vs. Lions - First off we have a system going against Detroit which is to play against any team that had a losing record last season if they won SU on Opening Day this year and scored 38 points or more, as these teams have gone 1-13 SU & 2-12 ATS since 1984. Going inside the stats, the Lions allowed Arizona to gain a total of 439 yards on offense and go 9-15 on third downs. Turnovers cost the Cardinals a chance in this one as they finished with a -3 turnover ratio.

Green Bay comes into this game in an early season must win situation. An 0-2 start, including two straight division losses, would pretty much put this team behind the eight ball for the rest of the season. They need this game badly.

Flashing back to last season, the Packers have lost their last three straight games, including their last two at home. Since Brett Favre became the starter in 1992, the Packers have never lost four consecutive games or three consecutive home games. Now I'm fully aware that these streaks eventually end, just as their home playoff winning streak ended last season, but I have no problem backing a veteran team led by Brett Favre in desperate need of a win. Lay it.

2) Dolphins -3 (1 unit) @ Jets - Don't be fooled into thinking Miami is not a good football team because they lost to the Texans. Even though it's an embarassing loss on the surface, it would have been a tragedy had they lost to them last year on Opening Day, as Dallas did. A one point loss on a late FG is nothing more then a close game that got away from them. Dom Capers has shown he can transform an expansion team into a winner quickly and they we're definitely ready to play last Sunday.

The Jets did not look very good last week against the Redskins. Their defense allowed Washington to average 4.7 yards per rush, and that was against RB's Ladell Betts and Trung Canidate. They will have a very tough time stopping Ricky Williams this week, who should get more then the 17 touches he got last week. Look for Miami to break their five year losing streak at the Meadowlands on Sunday.

3) Panthers +10 (-120, 1 unit) @ Buccaneers - Philadelphia tried a "pass first" philosophy against Tampa's defense on Monday Night and you all saw the results of that. You do not allow the Buccaneers to get into a groove rushing the passer early in a football game because you will lose. Look for Carolina RB Stephen Davis to get plenty of touches in this one to take the pressure off new starting QB Jake Delhomme. Tampa wins this one but the Panthers keep it close enough to cover the number.

Since 1988 there have been a total of 14 teams that got shutout as a favorite (none on Opening Day by the way). Here are their results the following game:

1989 Browns -1 @ Colts 17-23L
1989 Oilers -3 @ Steelers 23-16W
1989 Jets +12.5 @ Rams 14-38L
1991 Cowboys +1 @ Cardinals 17-9W (Arizona was shutout previous week 34-0 as an underdog)
1991 Buccaneers +11 @ Vikings 13-28L
1992 Patriots +16.5 @ Chiefs 20-27L
1993 Lions +7 @ Cardinals 21-14W
1993 Steelers -9.5 vs. Bengals 34-7W
1993 Rams -2 vs. Redskins 10-6W
1994 Chiefs +1 @ Chargers 6-20L
1997 Dolphins -2.5 vs. Patriots 12-14L
1997 Buccaneers -7.5 vs. Bears 31-15W
2001 Bengals +3 @ Lions 31-27W
2001 Dolphins -4.5 @ Bills 34-27W
2003 Eagles -5 vs. Patriots ? (New England shutout previous week 31-0 as an underdog)

Good luck to you as well. Miami usually a good bounce back team going 9-2 SU & 7-3-1 ATS when favored off a loss under Wannstedt.
