Tuesday 2-3 -0.45 Units

Here are tonights selections:

7 Units Pittsburgh -13 -105

A Battle of Pittsburgh for these two locals. Pitt was a national powerhouse a year ago (28-5 SU, 17-11 ATS; R: 6-4 SU, ATS) when they beat the Dukes 82-67. They picked up where they left off with a 71-62 win over Alabama in game one this year before getting to the Little Sisters of the Poor part of the schedule. They're now 5-0 SU, (1-0 ATS). Returnees Julius Page and Jaron Brown and a versatile cast of young and old insure that the Panthers will make plenty of noise once again. The Dukes of Duquesne are returning four starters and a group of transfers will them better, much better, but they were only 9-21 SU, 14-10 ATS including 5-8 SU, 5-5 ATS at home a year ago.

7 Units Arizona State +2 -104

No question Arizona State (3-0 SU, 0-3 ATS) will be good, the question is how good. The veteran squad is loaded led by preseason POY possibility Ike Diogu (25 ppg, 8 rpg), who is off to a terrific start. The Nebraska (LY: 11-19 SU, 9-16 ATS) Cornhuskers, who are busy building a winning record come off a lopsided 80-64 win over Fair Dickinson and E. Michigan 67-59. The Huskers lost their top 2 scorers but John Turek, who scored 24 points on Dickinson, guards Jake Muhleisen, Nate Johnson and 6'-8" Andrew Drevo should provide firepower. Expect the Cornhuskers, who lost to Arizona State 75-63 a year ago to have similar problems!!!

5 Units Rhode Island -7.5 -105

Rhode Island (R: 1-1 SU, 2-0 ATS) lost to a determined Syracuse 69-65 on Sunday. Rhode Island took a 24-13 with 8:44 left in the first half. But the Orangemen outscored the Rams, 20-10, the rest of the half. Dustin Hellenga scored 16 points and Terrence Mack had 10 and nine rebounds as Rhode Island (3-2) won the rebounding battle 48-35 and lost the war. R. I. was held to only one 3-pointer in 22 attempts. Brown returns home after beginning the year on the road for 4 of 5 games (1-3 SU, 0-2 ATS). They haven't shot very well (38%) and are being outrebounded 55-45 so they don't match up very well with R.I. Rhode won 67-48 a year ago.

5 Units Florida State -11 -107

Florida State has started the year nicely going 5-0 SU, 1-0 ATS, after defeating Northwestern 71-53 SU on Monday. 6’-7” junior Anthony Richardson led the Seminoles with 27 points and has become the second leading scorer on the team, averaging 16 points per game. Senior guard Tim Pickett has also started nicely, averaging a team leading 17 points per game. They now look to go for their sixth straight win against Ole Miss (2-1 SU, 0-1 ATS). Last time out, Ole Miss squeaked by SE Louisiana 52-48 SU. 6'-8" F Justin Reed is doing the bulk of the scoring thus far for the Rebels, averaging 25 points per game (47% from the field.) The biggest problem for the Rebels in this game is that they have no answer for Florida State’s Senior Backcourt. Mississippi’s JUCO transfer Ed Glass and freshman Todd Abernethy were supposed to make a big splash. However, Abernathy is only averaging 4 assists and one steal per game. Not great for a supposed pure point guard playmaker. Glass is only averaging 2 points a game. Last season the Rebels were 4-9 SU in away games (5-8 ATS). Look for Ole Miss to really struggle in this one!!!

5 Units Tulane -4.5 -110

A Battle of New Orleans on Wednesday as the new look New Orleans Privateers with freshman guard Lester McCalebb (16 ppg) and Kyle Buggs (14 ppg) light up the scoreboard for a 2-0 SU mark after defeating Stamford 62-60. A deep squad with 7 players having 2-3 years experience has coach Monte Towe looking to better last year's 15-14 SU record. Another quick start school not facing Division I talent. Tulane is 3-0 after beating Loyola NO 77-57 Sunday. 6'5" Vytaus Tatarunas (15 ppg) and 6'11" Ivan Pjevcevic (3 ppg) give the Green Wave an International flavor after losing 4 contributors from last year's 16-15 squad. New Orleans won the last meeting 80-67, but Tulane has a big height edge under the boards and the home court!!!

5 Units SMU -5 -102

SMU has one of the better early season upsets when they downed Texas Tech 62-59 Monday. SMU has great balance with quick sophomore guard Bryan Hopkins (17 ppg), swingman Justin Asham (14 ppg) and a strong froncourt of 6’-9” junior Patrick Simpson and 6’-8” junior Eric Castro. They also had a 69-59 at home win over Texas Pan American. SMU was a strong 17-13 last season and a respectable 6-9 SU/6-7 ATS on the road! The Baylor Bears (2-1 SU, are off to a good start against mediocre talent. Terry Thomas (23 ppg) has found an early season stroke to lead the team. Anyone who wanted to was allowed to transfer after a summer of tragedy and scandal. Seven lettermen returned, suggesting they are players who couldn't find another program. SMU, who is on fire after Texas Tech, stays hot!!!

Good luck tonight my friends,

Allstar nice write ups agree with you on Arizona St. I see this line is going to change by game time. That Tulane game intrigues me, just have that feeling New Orleans will struggle at Tulane, they always seem to play well at home and suck on the road. Nice picks, good luck!!
