# 3 FURIOUS SPANISH EYES 4/5

# 2 TAKIN ON EQUATICS 2/1

# 1 SHARP M EYE 3/1

I've got to go with FURIOUS SPANISH EYES. Has performed quite well recently in short races, posting a nifty 62 avg speed figure. Has respectable Equibase Speed Figures and has to be considered for a bet for this race. Condon has him trained soundly to break sharply out of the starting gate. TAKIN ON EQUATICS - Overall the speed figs of this pony look competitive in this outing. Is a solid choice - given the 52 Equibase Speed Figure from his most recent race. SHARP M EYE - Has a very strong shot in here if you like back class. Looks decent to be up on the lead at the first call.

# 3 PLAYERS GONNA PLAY 7/5

# 6 LOVE YOU TOO BABY 3/1

# 2 LIL MARCUS 5/1

My selection for this event is PLAYERS GONNA PLAY. Has posted strong speed figures in dirt sprint races in the past. Eramia has a win percentage of 20 over the last month. His 52 average has this gelding with among the most favorable speed figures in here. LOVE YOU TOO BABY - Is difficult not to consider given the company run in lately. Is worth looking at and may be a wager - strong Equibase Speed Figures (51 average) at today's distance and surface lately. LIL MARCUS - Is worth taking a close look at and may be a bet - strong speed figures (53 average) at today's distance and surface lately. Should best this group here, showing respectable numbers of late.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #4 - Post: 6:40pm - Claiming - 6.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $14,000 Class Rating: 80

Rating: 3

#1A HUMOROUS CHANT (ML=5/1)
#6 QUEEN OF SPRING (ML=5/2)
#7 AUDREYS CHOICE (ML=9/2)

HUMOROUS CHANT - A wise man taught me to bet on the lone speed horse. Take a look at this horse. This horse's last race was out at Mountaineer Park in a race with a class figure of 85. Dropping considerably in class figure this time around puts her in a solid position in this event. QUEEN OF SPRING - Allen and Rini have had terrific success together over the last twelve months. A pony coming back this soon after a good effort is a good signal. I like the fact that this mare's last speed fig, 75, is tops in this field. AUDREYS CHOICE - Have to make this mare a strong challenger; she comes off a solid contest on July 24th. Taking this jock/conditioner combination is a smart move.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 WEEKEND IN MALIBU (ML=3/1), #2 CONSORTS RING (ML=4/1), #2B MY FOUR REWARDS (ML=4/1),

WEEKEND IN MALIBU - Speed ratings tell a tale of lessening form. The speed figure in the last race doesn't fit very well in this affair when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's race. Mark this thoroughbred as a likely underlay. CONSORTS RING - Improbable that this horse will finish better than she did last time out of the box when finishing third. The speed figure in the last race doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a vulnerable competitor. MY FOUR REWARDS - A rallier like this one needs an early speed duel to set things up and she isn't likely to get one this time around.

5½ FURLONGS TURF THREE YEAR OLDS STAKES $100,000.00 PURSE

#3 MALRAUX
#1 BLIND AMBITION
#5 EXPEDITED VISION
#6 INDY HILL

Inaugurated in 2008, the Quick Call was named after the multiple graded stakes winning gelding who won more than half his 16 career victories at the Spa. Trained by Sid Watters, Jr. and Warren Croll, Quick Call finished fifth in the Saratoga Special in 1986, and went on to win nine races there each year from 1987-1990 including the Forego in 1988 and 1989. He retired in 1992. Here in the 10th running of "The Call," #3 MALRAUX has exceptional early speed abilities to compliment for this sprint, and has hit the board in each of his three career starts to date, including back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in his last two starts. #1 BLIND AMBITION has hit the board in three of his last four outings, including back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in his 2nd and 3rd races back. Jockey Javier Castellano and Trainer Todd Pletcher send him "postward" for the "Wednesday Feature" ... they've hit the board with 58% of more than 150 entries saddled as a team to date.

#10 BANKING (ML=5/1)
#7 SUPERIOR EYE Q (ML=6/1)
#5 RAYSUNETT (ML=4/1)

BANKING - This filly is in good form, having run a nice race on Jul 24th, finishing second. Kauffman comes to ride after getting to know the filly in the last event. Finished ahead of today's favorite last time out at Thistledown. Can do the same again in this field. SUPERIOR EYE Q - Got to love a filly who outruns her odds in her initial bow. Filly did just that back on June 22nd. Horse got beaten up in her 1st race. With a clean race, I look for this one have a shot at the top of the lane. I like this filly. Has the top earnings per start (EPS) in here. RAYSUNETT - Strong return on investment for this jock and trainer duo.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 COUNTING TIME (ML=7/2), #2B MINECRAFTBULLY (ML=7/2), #1A ALEXA RAE (ML=6/1),

COUNTING TIME - No accomplishments for this pony in a sprint contest over the last couple of months tells me that this filly is in a thorny spot MINECRAFTBULLY - Obtained her best speed figure last out, but the track conditions may have played a major role in the outcome. ALEXA RAE - Tough to bet on any horse to turn things around if there is no value to taking the shot. The rating last time out doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's event. Mark this thoroughbred as a vulnerable competitor.

GAME: Colorado Rockies (64-49) at Cleveland Indians (60-50)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, August 09 - 12:10 PM EST
WHERE: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Preview: Rockies at Indians

Gracenote

Aug 9, 2017

The Colorado Rockies entered this past weekend with an unblemished 59-0 record when leading after eight innings. Three days later, they are 0-2 in such situations since and will try to rebound from a devasting defeat and salvage a split of a two-game interleague series when they visit the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday afternoon.

Colorado was one strike from a 1-0 victory in Tuesday's game before Austin Jackson delivered a tying RBI single and Yan Gomes followed with a walk-off, three-run homer. Gomes ended a 12-game home run drought and has 10 RBIs in the last nine games for Cleveland, which moved four games ahead of Kansas City atop the American League Central. Charlie Blackmon's 26th homer, leading off the game, supplied the lone run for the Rockies, who remain a comfortable six games ahead of Milwaukee in the wild-card chase.

TV: 12:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Colorado), STO (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Antonio Senzatela (10-4, 4.78 ERA) vs. Indians RH Trevor Bauer (10-8, 5.00)

The Rockies are trying to manage the innings of the 22-year-old Senzatela, who has pitched out of the bullpen in five of his last seven appearances. He lasted only four innings in his last night, giving up six runs in a loss at St. Louis on July 18 after winning his previous turn with five innings of three-run ball. Senzatela beat the Indians on June 6, giving up three runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Bauer is coming off an outstanding effort, limiting the New York Yankees to one run on seven hits over seven innings in winning his third consecutive start. He went eight innings in his previous turn, permitting one run and seven hits to beat the Los Angeles Angels. Bauer lasted only 3 1/3 innings in a loss at Colorado on June 7, getting tagged for four runs while tying a season high with five walks.

WALK-OFFS

1. Indians LF Michael Brantley left Tuesday's game due a sprained right ankle.

2. Rockies closer Greg Holland is now 33-for-36 on save conversions after blowing two in as many games.

3. Jackson has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games.

PREDICTION: Indians 4, Rockies 3

Preview: Rangers at Mets

Gracenote

Aug 9, 2017

The Texas Rangers look to avoid dropping seven games below .500 for the first time since May 8 but they are only four games out of the second wild card in the American League. The Rangers attempt to salvage a split of a two-game interleague series at the New York Mets on Wednesday afternoon before heading back to Texas for a 10-game homestand.

Joey Gallo clubbed his 31st homer in Tuesday's 5-4 loss for the Rangers and has gone deep six times with 12 RBIs during a seven-game hitting streak. Adrian Beltre has homered in back-to-back games and has six RBIs while hitting safely in four in a row. New York's Travis d'Arnaud hit his first homer of the year at Citi Field and first overall since June 27 as the Mets halted a four-game skid. Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes ended a drought of his own with his third homer at Citi Field this season and first at home since June 17.

TV: 12:10 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers LH Martin Perez (5-10, 5.46 ERA) vs. Mets RH Rafael Montero (1-7, 5.78)

Andrew Cashner was scratched from Tuesday's start, forcing the Rangers to move A.J. Griffin up one day and slot Perez into Wednesday. Perez is in a tailspin, having lost four consecutive starts and giving up 15 runs and 18 hits over nine innings in his last two turns, including seven runs at Minnesota on Friday. Cespedes is 5-for-13 with a double and triple off Perez.

Montero has escaped with a pair of no-decisions despite rocky performances in his last two starts, giving up four runs and 10 hits at Colorado and five runs with five walks at Seattle. Conversely, he recorded consecutive quality starts in his previous two turns and lost both -- each at home. Montero is winless at Citi Field this season, going 0-6 in 12 appearances (five starts).

WALK-OFFS

1. Rangers 2B Rougned Odor is 2-for-22 in his last six games.

2. Mets OF Michael Conforto swatted his 23rd homer and has hit safely in 10 of 11 games.

3. Texas placed RHP Keone Kela on the 10-day disabled list and promoted RHP Ricardo Rodriguez from Double-A Frisco.

Preview: Mariners at Athletics

Gracenote

Aug 9, 2017

The Seattle Mariners used an impressive comeback to take the opener and look to make things a bit easier on themselves Wednesday afternoon as they host the Oakland Athletics for the finale of their brief two-game series. Seattle fell behind by four runs on Tuesday before bouncing back for a 7-6 victory as Leonys Martin homered in the 10th inning.

Ben Gamel drove in two runs and Nelson Cruz plated one to raise his American League-leading RBI total to 85. Yonder Alonso went 1-for-5 in his first game since being acquired from Oakland on Sunday as the Mariners improved to 5-3 on their nine-game road trip and pulled even with Kansas City and Tampa Bay for the second wild-card spot in the AL. Khris Davis is making an effort to overtake Cruz in the RBI race as he increased his total to 79 with a run-scoring triple and a three-run homer on Tuesday. Ryon Healy also went deep during a 3-for-4 performance as the Athletics began their nine-game homestand with a loss after winning two straight to complete a 3-2 road trip.

TV: 3:35 p.m. ET, ROOT Northwest (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Yovani Gallardo (5-7, 5.35 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Jharel Cotton (5-8, 5.48)

Gallardo has pitched better since returning to the rotation after a stint in the bullpen, going 1-0 over three starts while allowing three runs or fewer each time. Prior to the stretch during which he gave up one run over 11 1/3 frames in four relief appearances, the 31-year-old Mexican had surrendered at least five runs in four of six turns. Gallardo entered the season 0-5 lifetime against Oakland but won a pair of starts earlier in the year while also working 4 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen on July 6.

Cotton has not won since June 23 in Chicago against the White Sox, going 0-1 in three starts while yielding four or more runs in each outing. The 25-year-old Virgin Islander escaped with a no-decision on the road versus the Los Angeles Angels on Friday after giving up four runs and seven hits in five innings. Cotton pitched to a no-decision last year in his first career start against Seattle before allowing two runs over six frames in a victory over the Mariners on April 22.

WALK-OFFS

1. Athletics OF Matt Joyce went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts on Tuesday in his first contest following a league-imposed two-game suspension for directing an anti-gay slur to a fan.

2. Seattle placed David Phelps (elbow) on the 10-day disabled list and announced fellow RHP Felix Hernandez would miss 3-to-4 weeks with bursitis in his right shoulder while also acquiring RHP Ernesto Frieri from Texas for cash considerations (reportedly $1) and assigning him to Triple-A Tacoma.

3. Oakland recalled 1B/OF Matt Olson, who batted .196 with four homers and nine RBIs in 18 games with the club earlier this season, from Triple-A Nashville.

Preview: Orioles at Angels

Gracenote

Aug 9, 2017

Kevin Gausman seeks his sixth consecutive victory when the Baltimore Orioles conclude their three-game series against the host Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday afternoon. Gausman's strong performance has helped Baltimore pull within 1 1/2 games of the second wild-card spot in the American League, which currently is shared by Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Seattle.

The Orioles dropped a 3-2 decision to the Angels on Tuesday for just their third setback in 11 games. The hot-hitting Manny Machado went 1-for-4 after driving in nine runs over his previous two contests and is 18-for-42 in his last 10 games. Los Angeles snapped its three-game losing streak and sits two games back in the wild-card race. Angels slugger Albert Pujols is hitless in seven at-bats in the series and is just 1-for-25 over his last six games.

TV: 3:37 p.m. ET, MASN (Baltimore), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Kevin Gausman (8-7, 5.15 ERA) vs. Angels RH Troy Scribner (1-0, 4.50)

Gausman looks to extend his winning streak as he continues to recover from a shaky 3-7 start. The 26-year-old settled for a no-decision against Detroit in his last turn despite giving up one run and three hits over seven innings and has allowed just two runs in 27 2/3 frames over his last four starts. Gausman is 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA in three career starts against the Angels and has struggled with Luis Valbuena (3-for-4, two homers) and Mike Trout (3-for-8).

Scribner was plagued by wildness in his first major-league start on Friday against Oakland as he issued five walks in just four innings. He allowed two runs and two hits - one homer - while striking out three in the no-decision. Scribner, who is making his fourth big-league appearance, went 10-3 with a 4.16 ERA in 18 games (17 starts) at Triple-A Salt Lake.

WALK-OFFS

1. Angels 3B Yunel Escobar (oblique) was placed on the 10-day disabled list and will miss 2-3 weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain.

2. Baltimore DH/RF Mark Trumbo (rib cage) is expected to be activated prior to Wednesday's game.

3. Los Angeles RHP Matt Shoemaker (forearm) underwent season-ending surgery to repair a compressed radial nerve on Tuesday.

GAME: Chicago Cubs (59-53) at San Francisco Giants (45-70)

Preview: Cubs at Giants

Gracenote

Aug 9, 2017

The San Francisco Giants just can't win baseball games when Madison Bumgarner takes the mound. The Giants are just 1-8 when their ace starts a contest this season and look to change the trend when they host the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of their three-game series.

Bumgarner is saddled with a 1-5 record as he tries to make something out of a season that was interrupted by the shoulder injury he suffered during an April 20 dirt-biking accident. San Francisco has an opportunity to win the series after All-Star Buster Posey ended a 23-game home-run drought with a three-run blast to fuel Tuesday's 6-3 victory. The defeat was Chicago's eighth in 24 games as the team was able to maintain its 1 1/2-game lead over Milwaukee in the National League Central lead over Milwaukee. Chicago's torrid play has been fueled by its superb performance on the road as Tuesday's loss was just its second in the last 14 contests away from home.

TV: 3:45 p.m. ET, MLB Network, CSN Chicago, NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks (4-4, 3.81 ERA) vs. Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (1-5, 2.88)

Hendricks is 0-1 with a 2.76 ERA in three starts since being sidelined for seven weeks due to tendinitis in his pitching hand. The 27-year-old tied a season best by pitching seven innings in his last turn, when he gave up three runs and five hits - two homers - in a no-decision against Washington. Hendricks is 2-2 with a 3.80 ERA in four career starts against the Giants, losing both of his previous two outings at AT&T Park.

Bumgarner is 1-2 with a 2.78 ERA in five starts since coming off the disabled list, with his lone win of the campaign coming against Pittsburgh on July 25. The 28-year-old lost to Arizona in his last turn, when he gave up two runs and five hits over seven innings. Bumgarner is 8-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 12 career outings against the Cubs and 5-0 with a 1.74 ERA over the last six.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cubs RHP Koji Uehara (neck) departed Tuesday's game while RHP Hector Rondon (back) sat out but should be available for the finale.

2. San Francisco RHP Johnny Cueto (forearm/blisters) is expected to resume throwing this weekend.

3. Chicago 2B/LF Ben Zobrist, who is 6-for-12 against Bumgarner, hasn't driven in a run in his last 11 contests.

Preview: Marlins at Nationals

Gracenote

Aug 9, 2017

Left-hander Gio Gonzalez flirted with history in his last encounter with the Miami Marlins before seeing his no-hit bid come to a halt following Dee Gordon's single to lead off the ninth inning. The Washington Nationals escaped with a 1-0 victory in that July 31 contest and will welcome the return of Gonzalez from the paternity list on Wednesday when the club continues its four-game series against the visiting Marlins.

Giancarlo Stanton went deep for the fifth time in as many outings with a three-run blast in Tuesday's 7-3 victory and pushed his major league-leading total to 38 homers. The 27-year-old powerhouse has 10 RBIs and eight runs scored during his seven-game hitting streak, but is just 6-for-27 against Wednesday starter and Miami Dade County native Gonzalez. Bryce Harper saw his four-game hitting streak come to an end in the opener despite driving in a pair of runs for the Nationals, who have dropped six of 11 encounters with their NL East rivals this season. The 24-year-old is 9-for-39 versus Miami this season and 1-for-6 against Wednesday starter Adam Conley.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), MASN2 (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins LH Adam Conley (4-4, 5.10 ERA) vs. Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (9-5, 2.66)

Conley matched the sum total of his previous three starts on Friday after allowing four runs in a 5-3 setback at Atlanta. The 27-year-old was taken deep for the third time in two games after surrendering just four homers in his previous nine outings. Conley has relatively limited experience against the Nationals, although Daniel Murphy (4-for-6, four RBIs) and Anthony Rendon (4-for-9, three doubles) have had his number.

Gonzalez retired 14 in a row at one point in his last trip to the mound to improve to 2-0 in three starts this season versus Miami, against which he has allowed just three runs with 20 strikeouts in 21 innings. The 31-year-old has dominated the Marlins in his career, posting an 8-3 mark in 14 outings. Gordon (6-for-19) has been a thorn in the side of Gonzalez, although the left-hander has kept Marcell Ozuna (4-for-18) at bay.

WALK-OFFS

1. All-Star 1B Ryan Zimmerman is 2-for-27 with 10 strikeouts in his last eight contests for Washington.

2. Miami 3B Derek Dietrich has collected two homers and six RBIs during his seven-game hitting streak.

3. Nationals INF Howie Kendrick (back stiffness) is hopeful to return to the lineup following a one-game absence, manager Dusty Baker said.

PREDICTION: Nationals 6, Marlins 4

GAME: New York Yankees (59-52) at Toronto Blue Jays (53-59)

Preview: Yankees at Blue Jays

Gracenote

Aug 9, 2017

Josh Donaldson has made his hits count against the New York Yankees this season, a statement that the 2015 American League MVP underscored on two occasions in the series opener. After belting a pair of two-run homers, Donaldson looks to continue his power surge on Wednesday as the Toronto Blue Jays vie for a series victory in the three-game set at Rogers Centre.

Donaldson has gone deep five times in the last seven games overall while five of his six hits (in 26 at-bats) versus the Yankees this season have left the park. The 31-year-old hasn't fared well in his career versus Wednesday starter Masahiro Tanaka, going just 3-for-24 - although one of those hits found its way over the fence. Tuesday's 4-2 triumph gave Toronto wins in four of its last six games overall while New York's fifth loss in seven contests dropped it four games behind AL East-leading Boston. Chase Headley scored a run in the opener and carries a four-game hitting streak into Wednesday's tilt.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, YES (New York), Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Masahiro Tanaka (8-10, 4.93 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Nick Tepesch (0-1, 5.40)

Tanaka fell to 1-3 in his last five starts despite allowing just one earned run in each of his last two, including last Wednesday's hard-luck 2-0 setback versus Detroit. The 28-year-old has won two starts against Toronto this season, overcoming two homers in 6 1/3 innings of an 11-5 triumph on May 2 before limiting the Blue Jays to just one run over seven frames in a 6-3 victory on July 3. Tanaka has flustered several Toronto batters during his career, including Ryan Goins (0-for-19), Justin Smoak (1-for-14) and former Yankee Russell Martin (1-for-11).

Tepesch is expected to be promoted from Triple-A Buffalo to take the scheduled start of fellow right-hander Cesar Valdez, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday with a shoulder injury. The 28-year-old Tepesch was acquired from Minnesota last month and posted a 1-0 mark with a 3.00 ERA in three games with Buffalo. Tepesch owns a career mark of 9-19 with a 4.69 ERA in 44 appearances (41 starts) with Texas, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Twins.

WALK-OFFS

1. Toronto OF Jose Bautista has one homer, four RBIs and three runs scored during his four-game hitting streak.

2. New York SS Didi Gregorius is 8-for-17 during his four-game hitting streak.

3. The Blue Jays are 6-5 against the Yankees this season and 12-22 versus the rest of the AL East.

PREDICTION: Yankees 5, Blue Jays 3
