GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (52-44) at Pittsburgh Pirates (46-48)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 19 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Zach Davies has won four consecutive starts since he was pounded by Pittsburgh a month ago and will get another crack at the Pirates when the visiting Milwaukee Brewers continue their four-game series at PNC Park on Wednesday night. Milwaukee is coming back to the pack in the National League Central following its first three-game skid in over a month.

Despite his struggles against the Pirates last month, Davies is unbeaten away from home this season while logging a 5-0 record with a 3.62 ERA in nine starts. Brewers third baseman Travis Shaw, who is 5-for-9 in the series, homered among three hits in Tuesday's 4-3 setback and has gone deep three times with eight RBIs over the past six games. Starling Marte returned to Pittsburgh's lineup after serving an 80-game suspension and went 1-for-3 while drawing a walk in his team's decisive four-run rally. The Pirates, winners of three straight and nine of 11 to draw within five games of Milwaukee, will counter Davies with right-hander Gerrit Cole.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), AT&T SportsNet-Pittsburgh

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Zach Davies (11-4, 5.08 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Gerrit Cole (7-7, 4.35)

Davies earned the win against Philadelphia last time out even though he was knocked around for six runs (five earned) and gave up five walks over 5 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old pitched at least six innings in each of his three previous starts after the Pirates pummeled him for seven runs and 10 hits over five innings on June 20. Davies won at Pittsburgh on May 7, allowing two runs and four hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Cole did not factor in the decision last time out versus St. Louis but he recorded his fifth quality start in six outings with six innings of two-run ball. The 26-year-old is 4-1 over his last six turns, including a win at Milwaukee on June 19 in which he yielded one run and three hits over seven innings. Cole has split six career decisions against the Brewers, holding Ryan Braun and Eric Thames to a combined 1-for-16.

WALK-OFFS

1. Brewers C Stephen Vogt will miss at least a month with a strained MCL in his left knee from a home plate collision in the series opener.

2. Pirates C Francisco Cervelli is 4-for-8 in the series and has multiple hits in four of his last six games.

3. Brewers CF Keon Broxton is 1-for-24 over the past seven contests.

GAME: St. Louis Cardinals (46-47) at New York Mets (41-50)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 19 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The St. Louis Cardinals have rebounded from a disastrous stretch by playing their best baseball over the last 2 1/2 weeks. Manager Mike Matheny's club vies for its 14th win in 21 outings overall and fifth straight over the host New York Mets on Wednesday when they play the third contest of a four-game series at Citi Field.

Matt Carpenter ripped an RBI double as part of a four-hit performance in Tuesday's 5-0 victory, extending his on base streak to 21 consecutive games. The 31-year-old has scored six runs during his eight-game hitting streak and is 9-for-18 while crossing the plate five times versus the Mets this season. While St. Louis is attempting to climb back to .500 for the first time since June 2, New York has dropped three in a row and eight of 11 to plummet into fourth place in the National League East. Jacob deGrom will attempt to stop his team's slide on Wednesday as he carries a 6-0 mark with a 1.53 ERA in his past six starts, although he allowed a career-high four homers in the Gateway City on July 7.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ESPN, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Mike Leake (6-7, 3.14 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (10-3, 3.48)

Leake is mired in a 1-5 mark in his last nine starts after receiving a no-decision on Friday following a two-run performance over five innings at Pittsburgh. The 29-year-old didn't do himself any favors with five walks in that contest on the heels of surrendering a season-high eight runs in his previous outing. Leake has struggled mightily when facing Lucas Duda, who is 6-for-8 with two homers and five RBIs in their encounters.

DeGrom's last outing versus St. Louis was the obvious outlier of his dominating stretch, in which has struck out 47 against just nine walks in 47 innings. The 29-year-old overcame a 26-pitch first inning en route to fanning 11 over eight frames of a 14-2 rout of Colorado on Friday. DeGrom was able to win his last outing versus St. Louis, improving to 2-2 in his career despite a 5.63 ERA while permitting the club to bat a staggering .465 against him.

WALK-OFFS

1. New York LF Michael Conforto had two of his team's three hits on Tuesday and has four in his last three games against St. Louis this season.

2. Cardinals 2B-SS Paul DeJong has tormented the Mets by going 11-for-21 with nine extra-base hits (five doubles, four homers) and six RBIs this season.

3. The Mets are 0-for-25 with runners in scoring position over the last three games.

GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (43-50) at Boston Red Sox (53-42)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 19 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

If the Toronto Blue Jays are to make any kind of run for a playoff spot, right-hander Aaron Sanchez will have to be among the players leading the charge. A 15-game winner in 2016, Sanchez is coming off his first victory of the season as he prepares to make the start Wednesday when visiting Toronto resumes its four-game series against the Boston Red Sox.

In an effort to spark his team's stagnant offense, Red Sox manager John Farrell gave regular designated hitter Hanley Ramirez only his third start at first base this season and the move paid off - after six hours. Ramirez, who was 1-for-14 in his previous four games, belted a towering walk-off homer in the bottom of the 15th inning as Boston won for only the fourth time in 11 games. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki had four of Toronto's 15 hits after going 2-for-20 over his previous five games. Sanchez, who missed nearly two months due to issues with blisters, has never lost at Fenway Park while posting a 3-0 record in six starts and winning twice in Boston last year with identical lines of one run and two hits allowed in seven innings.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Aaron Sanchez (1-2, 3.94 ERA) vs. Red Sox LH Drew Pomeranz (9-4, 3.75)

Sanchez returned just before the All-Star break and took a beating against Houston, giving up a career-high eight runs on seven hits while lasting only 1 2/3 innings. He was much better last time out in what was just his seventh start of the year, limiting Detroit to an unearned run and seven hits over six innings. Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts and Hanley Ramirez a combined 9-for-52 versus Sanchez.

A ninth-inning rally by Boston took Pomeranz off the hook for a loss after he permitted four runs over six innings last time out against the New York Yankees. The 28-year-old won his previous three starts in impressive fashion, including a victory at Toronto on July 2 in which he allowed one run and five hits in six innings. Justin Smoak has had success against Pomeranz with three hits in seven at-bats.

WALK-OFFS

1. Blue Jays RHP Roberto Osuna had converted 22 consecutive saves before blowing one in the bottom of the 11th - his first since April 27.

2. Bogaerts was sent for an MRI exam due to recurring soreness in his right hand.

3. Blue Jays RHP Mike Bolsinger took the loss Tuesday despite becoming the second pitcher in franchise history with four strikeouts in an inning.

GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (54-39) at Cincinnati Reds (39-54)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 19 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Already coming off one of their biggest offensive outbursts of the season, the Arizona Diamondbacks expect to have another potent bat in the lineup when they continue a three-game road series against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. Outfielder J.D. Martinez, acquired Tuesday from Detroit, is expected to join the Diamondbacks on Wednesday and provide another powerful bat in the middle of the lineup.

The Diamondbacks gave up three minor-leaguers to acquire Martinez and bolster a lineup that had struggled during a five-game losing streak before erupting for nine extra-base hits - one from nine different players for the first time in club history - in an 11-2 rout in Tuesday’s series opener. "We're excited. He's very capable," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters. "He's a special guy with a lot of confidence at the plate." The struggling Reds have been outscored 46-14 while dropping their first five games following the All-Star break. Cincinnati could be on the cusp of making some moves of its own, perhaps moving All-Star shortstop Zack Cozart, who accounted for three of the Reds’ six hits Tuesday.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (11-4, 2.86 ERA) vs. Reds RH Tim Adleman (5-7, 4.99)

Greinke is making his second straight start against the Reds after throwing seven scoreless innings to beat them on July 7. The 33-year-old has won his last three starts, allowing three runs over 19 innings with 20 strikeouts and four walks. Greinke is 8-2 with a 2.21 ERA in 13 starts against Cincinnati.

Adleman has lost his last three starts, posting a 6.91 ERA over that stretch. The 29-year-old struggled in his first start of the second half, allowing five runs and seven hits over 4 1/3 innings to Washington. Adleman lost at Arizona on July 7 in his first career meeting with the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs (three earned) over five frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt has hit safely in a career-high 16 consecutive road games and is 12-for-37 with two homers during his current 10-game hitting streak.

2. Reds 1B Joey Votto is 12-for-32 with three home runs against Greinke, but Cozart is 1-for-18 with six strikeouts against the right-hander.

3. Martinez was batting .305 with 16 home runs and 39 RBIs for the Tigers and has hit 99 home runs over the past four seasons.

GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (65-29) at Chicago White Sox (38-53)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 19 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Even for a franchise with a history as rich as the Los Angeles Dodgers', no edition of the club over the last century-plus has played better for a longer period of time than this season's squad. The Dodgers eye a season-best 11-game winning streak and their 31st victory in 35 games Wednesday, when they attempt to complete a two-game sweep of the host Chicago White Sox.

Los Angeles (65-29) moved 36 games over .500 for the first time since the club finished the 1974 season at 102-60 with Tuesday's series-opening 1-0 triumph, making a first-inning RBI single by rookie sensation Cody Bellinger stand up to match its longest winning streak of the season. The Dodgers' 30-4 mark is the best 34-game stretch in club history since 1899 and the best such run in the majors since the 1977 Kansas City Royals won 35 of 39. While Los Angeles maintained its 10 1/2-game lead over Arizona in the National League West, Chicago (38-53) has dropped five in a row to fall 10 games back in the American League Central. The White Sox firmly established themselves as a seller as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches following Tuesday's defeat, sending third baseman Todd Frazier as well as relievers David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle to the New York Yankees for reliever Tyler Clippard and three minor-leaguers, including consensus top-50 prospect Blake Rutherford.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (7-4, 4.38 ERA) vs. White Sox LH Carlos Rodon (1-2, 4.32)

Maeda won for the third time in four decisions on July 7 against Kansas City, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while fanning five in as many frames. The 29-year-old has permitted fewer than two runs in five of his last six outings, but he has worked past the fifth inning only once over that span and three times in 14 turns this season. Maeda has struggled much more on the road (2-3, 6.25 ERA) than he has at home (5-1, 3.11) as he enters his first career start against the White Sox.

Rodon suffered through the worst of his three outings since coming off the disabled list in late June, surrendering six runs on five hits and three walks across 5 1/3 innings in a loss at Colorado on July 9. The North Carolina State product has lacked command since making his return, issuing 12 walks in 16 2/3 innings, but was coming off an outing at Oakland on July 3 in which he struck out 10 in 6 1/3 frames. Rodon, who never has faced the Dodgers, worked five scoreless innings against the Yankees on June 28 in his only start at home this year.

WALK-OFFS

1. Los Angeles' 65-29 record is the club's best mark through 94 games since the 1942 Brooklyn Dodgers went 66-28.

2. Chicago is expected to promote 3B prospect Yoan Moncada in time for him to start in place of Frazier on Wednesday.

3. The only other time in franchise history the Dodgers have put together two winning streaks of at least 10 games was in 1955.

GAME: Detroit Tigers (43-49) at Kansas City Royals (45-47)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 19 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

After parting ways with a former All-Star, the Detroit Tigers will send another potential trade commodity to the mound on Wednesday as struggling veteran Justin Verlander faces the host Kansas City Royals. The 2011 American League MVP and Cy Young Award winner is enduring his worst season since 2008, but his ability to dominate could make him an attractive option at the right price.

The Tigers parted ways with outfielder J.D. Martinez by shipping him to Arizona for a trio of prospects on Tuesday, but they continued their offensive surge later that night with a 9-3 rout of Kansas City. Nicholas Castellanos recorded his second career multi-homer performance to highlight his four-hit, five-RBI effort and is 8-for-18 with four blasts, eight RBIs and seven runs scored during his four-game hitting streak. While the Tigers have erupted for 36 runs during their season high-tying four-game winning streak, the Royals have dropped seven of eight overall and six of eight versus Detroit. Eric Hosmer recorded an RBI single in a three-run first inning to highlight his second straight multi-hit performance of the series and is 12-for-33 against the Tigers this season.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Justin Verlander (5-7, 4.66 ERA) vs. Royals RH Jason Hammel (4-8, 5.02)

Verlander fell to 0-3 with a 5.87 ERA this month despite allowing two earned runs and three hits in 5 1/3 innings against Toronto on Friday. The 34-year-old has split a pair of starts versus Kansas City this season, as he permitted one run in seven frames of a 1-0 loss on May 30 before picking up the win after working seven strong innings in a 5-3 triumph on June 27. Verlander has handcuffed Mike Moustakas (.175) and Alex Gordon (.196), although Salvador Perez is batting a blistering .414 versus the right-hander.

Hammel saw his winless stretch extend to four starts on Friday despite taking a no-hit bid into the sixth before serving up a three-run homer and exiting with two outs in the inning. The 34-year-old has been taken deep in each of his last five outings after allowing just nine homers in his previous 13. Hammel was fortunate to walk away with a no-decision versus Detroit on May 29 after permitting four runs and as many hits in 4 1/3 frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. Kansas City 2B Whit Merrifield has recorded a double in each contest during his five-game hitting streak.

2. Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler has notched five hits in the series and is riding a four-game run scoring streak.

3. Tigers DH Victor Martinez, who owns a six-game hitting streak, has registered five hits, five RBIs and three runs in the series.

GAME: Washington Nationals (57-36) at Los Angeles Angels (46-50)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 19 - 10:07 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Washington Nationals reportedly still are exploring the trade market even after adding two relievers earlier this week, but it’s hard to believe they have much more room for improvement. The Nationals are 21 games over .500 and riding a six-game winning streak as they head into Wednesday’s contest against the host Los Angeles Angels, who will be without leadoff hitter Cameron Maybin for the next few weeks.

The Nationals opened the two-game set Tuesday with a 4-3 victory as star Bryce Harper went 4-for-4 with his 24th homer while new additions Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle pitched the final two innings. Harper is 24-for-51 with six home runs and 15 RBIs during his 13-game hitting streak while Anthony Rendon is in the midst of a 12-game run (20-for-42, four homers, 14 RBIs). Washington manager Dusty Baker said Harper will receive a scheduled day off Wednesday against the Angels, who have fallen into fourth place in the AL West with seven losses in their last 10 games. Ben Revere figures to start in left field after Maybin suffered a sprained knee in Tuesday’s game that will keep him out of action 2-4 weeks.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, ESPN, MASN 2 (Washington), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (8-4, 2.66 ERA) vs. Angels RH Alex Meyer (3-5, 4.18)

Gonzalez snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday by tossing 8 1/3 scoreless innings in a 5-0 win over Cincinnati. “We weren't able to get any pressure on Gio,” Reds manager Bryan Price told reporters. “We didn’t have any push at all to get back into the game until the ninth inning. That was a dominant performance.” Mike Trout is 1-for-11 with six strikeouts versus Gonzalez, who has gone 7-2 with a 2.62 ERA in 11 career starts against the Angels.

Meyer will be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to start in place of Ricky Nolasco, who will be given two extra days of rest and face Boston on Friday. The 27-year-old Meyer was optioned to the minors after allowing five runs over five innings in a 9-5 loss to Minnesota on July 3. A first-round draft pick of the Nationals in 2011, Meyer has struggled with his control this season, issuing 41 walks over 60 1/3 frames in his 12 major-league starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Washington is 40-13 when scoring first this season.

2. The Angels have not committed an error in their last 12 games and have made just three in their last 25 contests.

3. The Nationals optioned RHPs Austin Adams and Trevor Gott to Triple-A Syracuse.
