CONSORTIUM CHOICES

Chatsworth Consortium

# 1 MR ERV 5/2

# 8 DARK LIGHTNING 3/1

# 4 MCARTIC OCEAN 5/1

Feel pretty confident putting some green stuff down on MR ERV. Exhibits the look of a profitable play, averaging a rather good 80 speed rating. This nice horse looks very good considering the high class ratings. Don't throw out of any exotics. Could be considered in here if only for the formidable speed rating earned in the most recent affair. DARK LIGHTNING - We're not going to pass on this gelding given one of the best driver/handler stats around. Any time a horse is sent to post with this driver-conditioner duet there's a nice probability for some nice profits. MCARTIC OCEAN - Excellent winning percentage makes this nice horse an excellent play to take home the dough. Chances are greatly enhanced for entrants coming from the 4 position at The Meadows.

Race 10 - Maiden Claiming - 8.0f on the Turf. Purse: $14000 Class Rating: 79

FOR MAIDENS, FOUR YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. WEIGHT, 120 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $16,000, IF FOR $15,000, ALLOWED 2 LBS.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 7 B K MASTERKEY 3/1

# 11 THUNDER DUKE 9/2

# 2 BIT GROWTH 4/1

B K MASTERKEY is the best wager in this race. Boulanger will almost certainly be able to get this colt to break out early in this race. Ran a strong last race. Is a strong contender based on figures put up lately under today's conditions. THUNDER DUKE - Recently Centeno has been hot which may give the edge to this gelding. BIT GROWTH - The equipment change of blinkers going on today will probably make a difference. Had one of the most favorable Speed Figures of this group in his last contest.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 2 LOCAL REASON 4/1

# 7 TWO BUCKS TO WIN 5/2

# 6 RUNAWAY CAL 7/2

LOCAL REASON is my choice. Earnings per start in turf route races is formidable for this racer. Looks like a formidable candidate for the exotics. Could best this group based on the Equibase speed fig - 87 - of his last affair. TWO BUCKS TO WIN - Vergara has a winning percentage of 23 over the last month. Could beat this group given the 89 Equibase Speed Figure earned in his last outing. RUNAWAY CAL - He has put up respectable figures under today's conditions and will almost certainly fare well against this group. Ought to be considered here on the basis of the figures in the speed section alone.

Charles Town - Race #4 - Post: 8:24pm - Claiming - 4.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,000 Class Rating: 66

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#2 JEYRAN (AZE) (ML=8/1)
#8 PEACHES N' BRANDY (ML=5/2)
#7 OVERNIGHT FLING (ML=15/1)

JEYRAN (AZE) - Her win on October 8th in an $8,000 Claiming race, at 4 1/2 furlongs, is a big plus for this filly. Jockey hops right back on after getting to know the magnificent animal by riding in the last race. That's always a good thing. Got to appreciate a good work horse. This filly's last workout was second fastest of the day for the distance. Trainer Rideoutt moves this one down the ladder based on class rating points to face much lower class horses. Look for a good race racing against these lower level horses. This filly should be at the fitness peak, this far into her form cycle. PEACHES N' BRANDY - It looks like Hebert had to be more familiar with this filly on Feb 18th when riding her for the first time. Back atop again today. Have to give this filly a shot. Ran a solid outing in the last race within the last month or so. OVERNIGHT FLING - She got a decent fig the last time she tried this distance. Taking a trip to a lower level; has the capability to make her presence felt.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 GIVE ME LOVE (ML=3/1), #5 COTTON LETTERS (ML=4/1), #9 FLASHY BARGIRL (ML=6/1),

GIVE ME LOVE - No accomplishments for this horse in a sprint event over the last sixty days tells me that this mare is in a thorny situation COTTON LETTERS - Improbable for this participant to do much running with no recent success in a short distance clash. Lower level horses have a difficult time coming back after two severe stretch runs. FLASHY BARGIRL - 6/1 is too low of a reward to take on most any racer that has run poorly in back to back efforts. Today's affair is 4 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't hit the board in a sprint contest in the last two months. Not the best of omens.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Put your money on #2 JEYRAN (AZE) on the nose if you can get odds of 4/1 or more

Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #1 - Post: 12:45pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $24,500 Class Rating: 61

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#7 BLUEBERRY BAY (ML=8/1)

BLUEBERRY BAY - Have to like the way Crumley has raced this filly back into shape off the layoff. Equine is well spotted in this sprint and I think she'll run well today. Lower weight assigned of -5. In my opinion, a movement of five is important, so this filly falls into this category.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 PREACHINTOTHECHOIR (ML=2/1), #2 GUESSWHOSKNOCKING (ML=5/2), #2B ANSWER QUIETLY (ML=5/2),

PREACHINTOTHECHOIR - Finished seventh last time out. Would have to advance to finish in the money in today's event. Don't feel this mount will make an impact in today's race. That last speed rating was substandard when compared with today's class rating. GUESSWHOSKNOCKING - Will be tough for this animal to beat this group off of that last speed figure. Improbable to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class rating, so put her on the likely underpriced equines list. ANSWER QUIETLY - This thoroughbred just hasn't looked sharp of late. Hasn't finished in the money in any sprint events of late. Doubtful to see her doing it in today's event either.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Bet on #7 BLUEBERRY BAY to win if we can get at least 1/1 odds

Northfield: Wednesday 3/9 Analysis + Pick Four ticket
By Jeremey Day

DRF HARNESS

Race 8 - $10,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Jeremey’s $1 Pick Four Play:

2,3,4,6 / 2,4 / 2,5 / 3 = $16

Best Bet: HARD COLD CASH (11th)

Spot Play: DUSTY DUNES (4th)

Race 1

(4) ZORGWIJK MERCEDES the trotting mare got stung early last week but should be ready for a better effort with a smooth trip. (7) TA'S AVANCE showed a nice burst of speed last week before tiring late. (3) SURE THING couldn't win at a lower level but does keep the top driver with a decent post.

Race 2

(3) WOLF CREEK PEGASUS will look to make it two in a row against a suspect bunch. (2) FLUKY'S GIRL has been close against similar and usually offers a nice price. (9) TAWA ROAD has been off four months and is probably best used underneath. The pacer did put in a decent qualifier.

Race 3

(6) FORT COMMANDER will be very tough to beat with a trouble-free trip. (9) NEELY SPRING has been competitive against better but will need to navigate the second tier. (5) SCREAMIN DREAMIN takes a significant drop in class; threat.

Race 4

(9) DUSTY DUNES raced very well last week from a tough post. (5) MAJOR SPEED will likely be closer turning for home this week and can threaten with a good setup. (2) DANNYS MAN rarely wins but might be in line for a ground saving trip up close.

Race 5

(9) FOUL BALL six-year-old just missed when last seen at this level a few starts ago. (5) ECHO'S PEARL is also dropping down a notch but looks to offer low value. (4) IM is capable of trotting a good mile but gets sent out for a low percentage pilot.

Race 6

(9) ONEMORELASTCHANCE picks up a huge driver change down in class. (1) JET SET STYLE gets the best post in a weak and inconsistent field. (8) REAL SAMART has some question marks coming off a scratch, however the pacer does own a class edge when right.

Race 7

(1) HANGIN JUDGE is one of few in the race who owns a decent burst of speed. (5) VALENEOUS filly faces older but looks to be primed for a better effort. (4) BUCKWILD is just now back in racing shape and has shown good closing ability.

Race 8

In a wide open and tough race to gauge, (6) MANTACULATER will offer a monster price and could pick up the pieces in the right scenario. (4) MIDNIGHT DRAGON bumps up in class off an easy win. The 7-year-old needs to avoid an early speed duel for his best chance. (3) UNADORNED HANOVER went coast to coast last week against weaker; fires early.

Race 9

(2) CHAMBORO AS came up empty last week but had been racing gamely prior. If the gelding trotter gives a good effort he's a big threat. (4) GREEN ACRELOLLYPOP has shown the ability to compete but its been almost two years since he got his picture taken; use caution. (9) MR FIX IT ELWOOD could be the sleeper in the race with a good setup.

Race 10

(5) CAMCRUISER HANOVER has some red flags that stick out in the program but the pacer makes his third start in the top barn adding first time lasix. (2) RUST BELT is capable of pacing a good mile but races inconsistently from week to week. (1) SANTA'S SPECIAL doesn't look the best on paper but will offer a big price with the best post.

Race 11

(3) HARD COLD CASH has been real good in two straight and faces similar. (4) NO WAY BLUE CHIP well bred pacer is one of few in the race with upside and has plenty of room to improve. (2) BEAUTIFUL RED has hit the board in six straight, however the pacer lacks a big burst of speed; use underneath.

Race 12

(6) HELLO CARLO has a good history at this track facing this type of competition. (4) MISS RILEY has been knocking on the door; versatile. (1) DARTMOUTH HALL is the horse to beat with the best post adding second-time lasix.

Race 13

(3) BLACKBIRD SINGING veteran stallion might have more to offer making his third start back off a long layoff. (6) SJ'S BLISSFUL GUY bumps up in class off a game victory; threat. (1) WINTER CRUISE gets the best post in a field full of question marks.

Race 14

(6) THE PRICE YOU PAY hit the board at a big price two back. The pacer needs a lot of racing luck but finds a really weak field. (4) BURSTING BLAZE needed his last start and can beat this field if ready. (3) RAY'S WESTERN closed ground from a tough post last week. The 10-year-old should be closer turning for home.

Race 15

(7) LIMA RITCH pacer gets a negative driver change but can blow up the tote board if they go fast early. (4) TREV ADAMS ATTACK is the horse to beat making his third start back off a layoff. (6) FIERCE DESIRE has just been racing evenly; use underneath.

Wednesday's six-pack

Six conference tournaments that will be played this week.......

-- Big 12-- Looks like seven of their ten teams will make NCAAs.

-- Atlantic 14-- Lot of bubble teams; there was a 3-way tie for first place.

-- Mountain West-- Its a one-bid league this year; San Diego State is favored.

-- Pac-12-- Four teams are in; they have three teams trying to get on bubble.

-- MAC-- These teams are roughly all the same. Akron is favored this year.

-- Sun Belt-- For some reason, their championship game is Selection Sunday.
