I Was Betting On Sports Before It Was Cool

Isn't this fitting?

With the millions of new rookies across the U.S. & Canada per legalization.

One of you guys should patent it and put it on tshirts.

Are that many people now betting on sports that didn't before? Or are they just now doing it "legally"?

I'm sure there is some new blood. But would be interesting to see how many new people have dipped their toes in the water since it's become legal in the States. Or at least some states.

Absolutely you have many new bettors introduced to it. You also have the longtime fantasy football players who take the leap

Oh, I'm sure. I'm just wondering how many new people are being enticed. To actually bet decent money and get into it. Not just Sally from the HR dept depositing $20 and putting it on her Cowboys. Sally be one and done.

Yep, the time, effort, energy and obsession that degenerates put in is harmful. More reason to deliver wins.

You know what bores me is friends or family and so forth ask how did you do on your bets? They are just making conversation and don’t really care. I’ve even told coworkers what do you care lol. And yet they love to go to the Indian casino and throw money away on slot machines and l don’t ask them how they did even if l did how exciting could that conversation be.

Think it's like anything else that wasn't more available before - weed, alcohol, etc. Making something more accessible by legalizing it doesn't create any significant increase in consumer base, there are new consumers for sure - but the vast majority of those new customers would have done it sooner or later whether or not out was legalized.

My son called me Sunday, talking to me about some prop bets and bonuses offered by DK. If he calls me on a Sunday, it's usually a fantasy football question

So yes, it is a different world, and we're the trailblazers

We were here when it was illegal

Don’t miss the days of finding a pay phone (with nobody around) to make bets.
Don’t miss the days of going to wal mart or Winn Dixie to send/collect my MG/WU

funny how sports gambling was frowned upon all these years and yet I’m watching the World Series and there was a pop up regarding total strike out by both starting pitchers and John Smoltz telling us to bet the over

I don't see any big changes in the circle of my friends and relatives. Those people who made bets five or six years ago continue to bet even now, no newcomers have been added.

I hated WU

Then Neteller was sensational. Instant transfers to the book, withdrawals funded on my debit card within an hour. Sensational, then W took it all away

Curious what FD and DK revenues look like over the last few years. How far are sides, totals, and props from exceeding daily fantasy?
