We have seen all these books go under in the Caribbean. I have heard that many books in Asia lost money last year and they seem to go on the same way, so expect many casualties!

95% of the books in Asia are credit shops and work on invitation only, so no real need to warn people, but not in a life time that I would like to be bookie and deal 5 cent lines!

Is it on recommendation ? I really love the credit concept and if it all goes smoothly, I'm planning to move to Asia (just for that) 1 or 2 years from now. Any general advices ?

Age - 20's
At your age Indonesia is the best from what I can say and Macau the worst. Many aged 20-30 complain that Macau is too boring to live, but you must go and see the place for a holiday.

Sexual preference - straight
According to some of the guys that work for the biggest football syndicate in the world and have other preferences too Thailand is the best. Though I heard that some now have AIDS, are in prison or both. Plus that they have started a crackdown on internet gambling there. Personally I avoid that country at all costs.

Bankroll - six figure
As soon as it hits 7 figures you may want to become a bit more careful in Indonesia, if you will have to expose it in some way. And you will the moment that you are dealing with those that will give you large credit on the football.

Food preference - Chinese
Chinese you can eat all over Asia and is not necessarily better in China.

Language - English, Spanish, etc. (asian - none)
If you do not speak any Chinese and have difficulties in learning languages, then you should not go to any Chinese speaking country (China, HK, Macau or Taiwan). My first step in Asia was in HK and after 4 years I spoke less Cantonese than Bahasa Indonesia after one month. At your age you can still learn another language and a country becomes much more enjoyable the moment you speak the language.

Recently there is only one big minus about Indonesia and that is that you will have to buy a visa to get in. In the old days one got 60 days 'without questions', but now they have started to make things difficult. Personally I used it a bit as one of the reasons why I left the place, but there are solutions for it.

entropy and cecil may have some useful input on the Philippines. I do not know that place very well.

That's what I heard too, I suppose Singapore and Malaysia are to avoid for the same reason, right ?

Looks like pretty much the same modus vivendi as everywhere in the third world. In what currency are the dealings and what is the convenient way to handle money ? Is it necessary to have a local bank account or offshore is enough ? Also how easy is getting the credit ?

When I arrived in Jakarta three years ago there were no restrictions at all! About 1.5 years ago they decided to limit trading in Indonesian Rupiah for foreigners. (Time for me to go, when governments start that route), however you can do all in US$, as there are no restrictions in that currency.

Having a BCA (Bank Central Asia) account is a must to do things efficient, but as a foreigner you cannot open one. I had a secretary open one for me, which I can operate myself over the internet. The HSBC Bank is good for opening a US$ account and they do allow foreigners to do that.

Also how easy is getting the credit ?
Too easy in my point of view!

The books in Asia got their clocks cleaned last year, alot of them are struggling at the moment, and Chel / Arsenal games did not do them any favours today.


Right now WWTS is a good place to bet weak lines on the asians if anybody is interested.
