REPUBLICANS PLAN PUSH FOR ELIMINATION OF IRS

**Exclusive**

A domestic centerpiece of the Bush/GOP agenda for a second Bush term is getting rid of the Internal Revenue Service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

The Speaker of the House will push for replacing the nation's current tax system with a national sales tax or a value added tax, Hill sources tell DRUDGE.

"People ask me if I’m really calling for the elimination of the IRS, and I say I think that’s a great thing to do for future generations of Americans," Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert explains in his new book, to be released on Wednesday.

"Pushing reform legislation will be difficult. Change of any sort seldom comes easy. But these changes are critical to our economic vitality and our economic security abroad," Hastert declares in SPEAKER: LESSONS FROM FORTY YEARS IN COACHING AND POLITICS.

"“If you own property, stock, or, say, one hundred acres of farmland and tax time is approaching, you don’t want to make a mistake, so you’re almost obliged to go to a certified public accountant, tax preparer, or tax attorney to help you file a correct return. That costs a lot of money. Now multiply the amount you have to pay by the total number of people who are in the same boat. You can’t. No one can because precise numbers don’t exist. But we can stipulate that we’re talking about a huge amount. Now consider that a flat tax, national sales tax, or VAT would not only eliminate the need to do this, it could also eliminate the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) itself and make the process of paying taxes much easier."

"By adopting a VAT, sales tax, or some other alternative, we could begin to change productivity. If you can do that, you can change gross national product and start growing the economy. You could double the economy over the next fifteen years. All of a sudden, the problem of what future generations owe in Social Security and Medicare won’t be so daunting anymore. The answer is to grow the economy, and the key to doing that is making sure we have a tax system that attracts capital and builds incentives to keep it here instead of forcing it out to other nations."

Always wanted a national sales tax...you'd pick up all of the under the table stuff that way(especially from gamblers) Great post. Where's that nutjob Phaedrus...I'm sure he has some good links on the topic. Probably still trying to win at video poker or double or nothing at the roulette wheel

Speaking of lobbies, I'm sure the H&R Block's and Jackson-Hewitt's of the world will mobilize the troops to defeat this if true.

Borat I mean Sick, how do people survive in Canada with the goverment taking out almost 60% of their income in taxes?

Is that why you had to open up 10 different accounts offshore in order to feed the family.

Actually, jointpleasures, I consider myself to be a liberal for the most part.....I don't know where this new tax proposal fits between the lib/conservative camps.....

Might actually be about the only thing I would like about Bush, if he introduced a system of the likes at fairtax.org

Way too many tax shelters concocted, makes more sense and makes the United States a tax haven for corporations to locate in....current tax law is way too deep and complicated for most people....

I think the system may work and be a great system, that's why I don't envision the government implementing it, because when did the government, either democrat or republican, ever run a business correctly or just take something good and fawk it up.....I just don't see them using it because it makes sense and when did the government run with something that made sense?

I like what I'm hearing - my only concern would be that such a tax could impair business - people may be reluctant to sell because of the tax - I own alot of property's and would love something new - my major concern would be the percentage - I think Bush is a complete failure but I am personally favoring him because Kerry has stated if you make over 200k you are getting hit harder and be responsible for the burden of taxes which is BS - I wish Bush would come out and talk about this - this type of shit could get his ass re-elected although 1/3 of the lazy free loaders in this country pay virutally no tax they would probably vote against it.

India uses this system, only the super rich pay income taxes.

--------------------------------
I can see that you guys don't 'do taxes' much.

A sales tax means that ALL the collection and record keeping is done by private businesses, instead of the IRS.
Then they hand large wedges of cash over to the government, - with UK VAT this is done every 3 months.
Businesses will receive random visits to ensure that their records are squeaky clean.

Miss your quarterly payment because of cash-flow glitches and they will come down on you like a ton of bricks.

The Government merely supervise their new tax collectors and administrators- private businesses - and these businesses receive nothing for the time and effort involved in maintaining the tax system.

Some of the rules on private use by an owner, recoverable periods, defaults....
Anyway, have a peek.
http://www.hmce.gov.uk/forms/catalogue/catalogue.htm

And don't forget that you will need a lot of government employees to maintain and enforce this system.
Plus a specialist to ensure you don't fall foul of this system.

Does that sound familiar?

I want you guys to read this carefully.....When the US eliminated slavery everyone in essence became a slave of the government. If you pay 60% of your income in taxes ou are basically a slave 60% of your life is what it comes down to. If the government were using these funds to develope the technology to avoid a massive meteor strike or to combat the effects of global warming or any other event that will set us back 9000 years I am all for it. Other wise this sucks.

Patriot...when you said.."Its got to be better than the over 10,000 rules and regs that is currentley used by our tax code.".....

.....consider the end of the world to be near, because I believe we agree on something for a change.

Unfortunately, I have not heard Bush say one word about this - probably because he is overwhelmed by the mess he created for himself.
