Wayward bombs bring marketplace carnage

The bearded militiaman knelt in the rain and used his gun to shift the earth of the bomb crater. "There is a hand still here in the ground," said Wasim al-Shinmari. "I can't touch it. I'm sorry, but I just can't touch it."
He exposed what looked like a pale lump of human flesh against the dirt, and then dissolved in sobs. "The bodies went to hospital, but the hand is here," he said.

Around him a small circle of men shouted: haram, haram - abomination. But it was unclear whether they meant the unburied human remains, or the audacity of America's bloody attack on an otherwise unremarkable suburb of Baghdad.

At least 14 Iraqis were killed and dozens injured yesterday morning when two American bombs fell out of the sky, and on to a crowded marketplace. If this was the result of precision bombing, as US and British military commanders said last night, then it wasn't precise enough.

"I saw a dozen bodies or more. They were inside the cars, outside the cars, even in the buildings," Mr Shinmari said. "Children, ladies, men... nobody had any warning."

It was the single worst act of carnage in six days of an American aerial assault on the Iraqi capital carried out by B-52 bombers, F-17 jet fighters and cruise missiles, at all hours of the day.

And, as yesterday's marketplace slaughter so clearly demonstrates, increasingly the targets are on the edges of residential areas, far away from the lavish palaces and military installations that are the institutional heart of Saddam Hussein's regime.

and yet saddam continues to put things that we will target in areas aprised of mostly civilians because he thinks we wont target them and if we do and there is an 'off course' missile he can then use it to gain support

Listen to these assholes
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A marketplace in the Iraqi capital was not an intended target of a U.S.-led coalition attack, Pentagon officials said.

The U.S. response to the incident came after Iraqi officials earlier in the day accused the United States of bombing the Baghdad market, killing 15 people.

Television images from regional networks showed crumbling buildings, burned out cars and injured people from the Baghdad bombing, saying the Iraqis blamed coalition bombs for the damage.

At a Wednesday news conference, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Stanley McChrystal said the Pentagon did not know what caused the damage and deaths at the marketplace.

McChrystal said coalition forces did not target any sites in the area. He said the damage could have been caused by a surface-to-air missile fired by the Iraqis or fallout from Iraqi anti-aircraft artillery.

I also heard a guy on CNN claiming I'm no gun expert but it certainly looks like American pows were shot in the head at close range. This ****ing guy was in the New york when he said this.

Grantt, by accepting the Iraqi propaganda at face value, you are partly responsile for the murder of Iraqi citizens.
Myabe not you individually but the group you belong to. That group that somehow is more trusting of the Iraqi "Information" Ministry and further encourages them to commit atrocities against their own people.

I'm not necessarily speaking this particular incident because all of the facts ARE NOT in so we don't know what happened but just the fact that you think "if the Iraqis said so, then it's good enough for me" is itself encouraging such treachery as we have witnessed previously from the Iraqis.

The thing about Grantt's posts that amuses me is he continues to pump them out while avoiding valid questions about his viewpoints, yet he somehow expects me and I guess others to continually respond to HIS questions while ignoring the ones I/we have. One-sided, unbalanced. I'm no longer going to waste my time on his questions or points when he chooses not to on mine - his right, my right. Not mad about it, just being realistic.

p.s. that includes your entire signature collection of My Lai photos

Jazz I'm not responding to Grantt "p.s. that includes your entire signature collection of My Lai photos"
Why would you respond to something that you don't believe happened? It would require you to open your eyes and be honest with yourself and we can't have that. Plus you look so damn good in those rose coloured glasses and that sheep outfit that I would want you to remove either. Leader wouldn't like that.

Reposting from another topic: I am tired of you ignoring my questions and substituting yours. I see you've responded online elsewhere and on the chance you simply didn't see them, I'm posting them here.

==========================================

Grantt: you are incredibly predictable, not quite as a precision munition, but close.

You will never admit anything you may hear from the coalition is true, and when you suspect it might be, you trot out some other BS.

I'm going to ask you a few questions, just so I understand your bias:

1 - I was born in America, have lived here all of my life - where were you born, raised, and where do you live now?

2 - I am conservative, with some 'liberal' opinions - I believe in democracy and republic forms of government, and thoroughly approve of capitalism - how about you?

3 - My primary reaction is not to distrust everything my government says and place instead my trust in what foreign media sources report - do you?

This is not to indict but to reveal your source of bias, as I have shown my source of bias.
