Why did he shoot him the 3rd time when he was on the ground?

I dunno if he will get off or not but that is pretty brazen to shoot him that 3rd time when you know you are on camera.

He was in game mode, like playing one of those violent shooting games.

Get real Hache, nobody is defending bad cops. All I said was it's easy to say what should have been done from watching a video after the fact. You have an opinion, but you weren't there. Has the case been fully investigated? You're not a cop, you only think you know the job.

LoL you have no idea.

Ive worked in government in my city, side by side with the police department, for 16 years.

Ive known most of the officers who have come & gone.

Many would laugh & brag about the questionable things they had done to ppl.

I stood there as the chief of police swore in officers & told them, and i quote... "this badge will get you a lot of pussy. How you use it is up to you.

Ive seen 6 total (that i know if for sure) have their badges revoked for misconduct.

2 of them picked on the wrong guy one night.
The son of a state trooper.

When i was younger i travelled locally with a small group of black guys i played basketball with, looking for competitive pickup games.

During those ventures over the years, with many being in the section, and other times simply in town, ive stood there & watched my friends be racially profiled by cops many times.

Ive seen and know first hand far more about police officers than any of you guys ever will.

So please, dont tell me i dont have a clue what im talking about...

Yeah, he definitely had the mortal combat "Finish him!" sound going on in his head.

Despite all the media hysteria, I do think with increased surveillance that the problem of police shootings will improve. But I think it would be extremely hard to pretend that before these cameras were in place, cops weren't extremely trigger-happy when dealing with a combative or volatile citizen. Most people if they thought there was around a 2% chance something could happen to them would probably go with the 100% chance the other person was dead. As long as there were no repercussions.

You guys are fucking kidding me. I am so tired of people crying about the police. The guy was told to keep his hands up and he didn't. It looked to me like he was reaching for something. It could have been a gun or a knife and he was approaching the cop. This is 100% justified. This is not even grey. You listen to the authority of the police. If the arrest is unlawful you have your redress in the courts. I don't want our law enforcement lives at risk because this idiot wasn't listening to their commands. I commend the police for lawfully defending themselves.

Approaching the cop then walking backwards. He was trying to piss off the cops it looked like.

Shoot him in the leg. What's he going to do then? Run at you? I think I'd take my chances at that point. There needs to be different protocol and retraining of these cops. Every situation is different but you don't need to shooot to kill if the guy doesn't pull out a gun. That's the whole point. If they are trained professionals if the guy had a knife at that distance he ahould of been shot in the lower half. But problem is a lot of them are undertrained. And their police units don't have the necessary money to put everyone through re training. That's where the government needs to step in and produce that $

Unnecessary? Did you miss the part where the guy reached for his waistband before the last shot?

He was moving his hand but it was super slow and you could tell he wouldn't have posed a threat. Or at least I didn't think so...

I'm not saying they were wrong to shoot him the first time or 2, just think the final shot could have been avoided and the kid would still be alive. He was a moron for not listening and paid the ultimate price.

I think cops were getting away with a lot more stuff before all this technology came out. If there were smart phones during Serpicos days, a lot of cops would have been in jail sooner.....smart phones/video cameras everywhere, etc.....should have cops scared to shoot w/o seeing a weapon, but it seems as long as they're wearing the badge, they usually get immunity from prosecution.

If a cop is bad, put their asses in prison and double the penalty. Fuck them.

I just find it laughable these Monday morning qb's stating what they should have done.

So much bad info in here
Here's a newsflash. Cops are trained to shoot to kill. Not shoot to disarm. It's not a matter of "undertraining"
Again, this was a call about a MAN WITH A GUN. You really think cops should need to SEE a gun before they shoot? Do you think people that pull out guns usually wait five or ten minutes before they use them?

What are you & king the same person with the same unreasonable comebacks?

You guys' comparing "once" vs my 16 yrs in the same office next door, eating with, mingling with, doing business with, and so on with officers, is apples & oranges.

Not to mention my stepdad was a cop.

So i take it you're a cop or somehow affiliated with law enforcement?

Makes sense now.

And regardless, i stilll know just as much & have seen it on the inside for many, many years.

Besides, i don't have to prove anything.

The bad cops prove it almost weekly now when they kill innocent ppl...

How many people are getting popped left and right when the cop can do that over having to think his life is in danger for 20-30 seconds? A lot are taking that way out with no surveillance.

Hache, the things you are posting are nonsense. I have friends and relatives that are cops. I also have friends that are on the other side, so to speak, and are in jail or probably should be. I don't claim to know all the ins and outs of police duty or selling large quantities of things. Why do you?

Kids learn in school that they are "untouchable" when it comes to being disciplined by teachers and principles. They can say anything and ignore orders knowing that the teacher cannot lay a hand on them. The worst consequence is being expelled from school. And for many, that is what they wanted from the beginning.

However, when this learned behavior is applied later in life towards another authority figure, the policeman, then the outcomes are quite different. Go ahead and call the police officer a m-o-t-h-e-r f-u-c-k-e-r and see what happens, Or better yet , ignore the cops orders.

As a high school teacher, I blame the "pussification" of discipline of students for cranking out several generations of citizens that have little respect for authority figures. But school districts are afraid of getting sued if they deal harshly with a student. And we get this out-of-control, downward spiral that we see happening today. Just my opinion.

Great post. I will respond because my experience on the matter is real and authentic.

My principal in the 8th grade was a former drill sargent in the marines. Thats the type of shit i am talking about. Why? Why have a former drill sargent administrate a brand new middle school? What good could come out of that? Lmao think!!!!!!

I agree that kids may do things because they know a teacher or a principal can't discipline them like their parents may. But that's the problem. The schools are looking to discipline kids over anything because they can't hit them or they cant discipline them the way they want. I can only speak for myself but I had over 25 refferals in the 8th grade and I didn't even finish the year before being kicked out. I wanted to be there and graduate with friends but I was "disciplined" over anything and everything. I personally do not believe kids want to be expelled. Because if you are there in school then most likely your intentions was not to be kicked out. Because if your alternative is the street life, then why not just ditch everyday? The "discipline" of a refferal does nothing other than creating a bullshit perception of a KID. Which leads to future assumptions. Along with the wrong authority figures in place.

It was later developed that my school that year had some more fishy things going on. Including a secretary who was pocketing the fundraiser money that the school was raising. How about focusing on your own authority and making sure they are in check? Or hire the right people. Kids do not decide that shit, but they have to deal with it. .... and people wonder why a kid might have some fucked up views of authority

eating with, hanging out with, mingling with? are u kidding? A MLB beat writer does these things, so sure he may know the ball players personalities etc, but bet you he still knows nothing about hitting a 96 MPH fastball in the middle of action or the game. Your argument is plain silly.

does that mean you were sent to the office 25 times in 8th grade? If that is what you are saying, my money is on you having bad behavior, not some over zealous ex marine.

Ive already explained why.

Because IVE SEEN IT FIRST HAND WORKING SIDE BY SIDE EVERY DAY FOR 16YRS withpolice officers.

Ive seen the corruption.

Ive seen the profiling when witb black friends.

And now with all that ive seen & heard every day for sooo long, what cops are now doing proves that everything ive witnessed EVERY DAY by their sides, was true.

No other way to make it more clear.
