Are they closer in speed these days?

I remember before, they was no comparison what so ever Comcast hands down way way faster.

Reason I ask is DSL is only half the cost. Contemplating a switch back to it.

If you do not know why you need cable then DSL is going to be surely fast enough.

I enjoy the super fast downloads and the fact that a youtube always streams with no problems.

I remember someone on here saying that cable modem is going to 'stick' sometimes. I was like what on earth is he talking about?!

It does in fact 'stick' when I refresh or I have to make an edit or something. Have to close the browser and re-open sometimes.

I'm guessing the newer equipment should make it a little faster than before.

DSL is fast enough for these as well.

Ever heard about sharp bytes in a new computer that just need some time to smoothen up for the computer to start working better?

That your computer "sticking", closing and re-opening browser has no affect on a cable-modem or any other networking gear.

I'm guessing the newer equipment should make it a little faster than before.

While this guess is frequently true, do not overlook the fact that getting a faster car will not make much of a difference in a congested city during a rush hour.

Funk, if you are in an area where they offer phone, cable tv and cable internet get with comcast for the triple play... $99 bones a month + HBO for me...

the only reason to have DSL over Cable that I know of is you are trying to save money...

How is the phone service. Is it the standard service or do they have to come inyour house and run more wires. Tried to get comcast last week after having DSL for eight years and they said it would be 6 to 8 weeks before installation. Boy, they must really have the business. Last year they offered me a 29.95 per month if i sighned up for two years. I balked and now am regretting it. My dsl has been going out quite a bit lately after no trouble for the first 6 years. Also tried to get super fast dsl and they couldn't oblige because i wasn't within two mile radius of there station.

Damn, 29.95! I would love to have that deal. I pay 62$ for cable modem. I could have DSL for 25 or 30 I think it is. However, DSL runs at like 750 kbps and Cable runs at 4.2 MBPS, it is like 5 times faster. Once you have that speed you dont want to go back.

I have really learned to hate Comcast, they price gouge all up and down.

The phone service at least with me they wanted to come and install some box. I wasnt with that. They were going to give me modem, cable and phone @ 99$ for 1 year and then back to normal prices when that runs out. But when that transaction almost completed, Verizon came with unlimted everything on the phone for 29.95$, so I took that.

Right now I have DTV 69.99 All pay channels and Sunday ticket (Normal price resumes in January, I am free to cancel whatever I dont like.)

Verizon phone 29.95 all US long distance included (1 year deal)

Comcast cable modem 62.00!

So it is obvious who the gouge offenders are here. I am looking forward to Verizon FIOS, but I doubt my town sees that for some time. That is what you REALLY want, if you can get it.

Maybe it's the area. I live here in Houston and only pay $42 a month for my broadband through Comcast.

DSL out here(Qwest) can give you a static IP-Cable(Comcast) can not.

Can get Verizon phone (unlimited local/long distance)/Fios Internet 5mbps/Fios TV(nice packages 270 channels/20 hd channels/) for 99.99 2years and if you want 15mbps thats only 109.99. + price of boxes

comcast does have capabilities to be faster than DSL but because its a shared network it usually isnt running on its max speeds. usually times after work and at night internet is slower than usual. DSL is a consistant speed and usually fast enough unless you live far from the central office
