how about u ask a question to start yer fictional book(since u haven't been there i assume the book is fiction rite?)...Have you ever woken up next to a dead hooker?....that would grab me 4 starters
thanks for the suggestion. the story is pretty much done in very rough draft form. i am trying to enrich the details of the setting without it being typical vagas desription and how these may impact the characters involved.
i mean, you ever been reading something where you're familiar with the setting, then the writer throws in a detail that makes you say, "ah shit," because it connects with you more than a description of what you might see every day? or have you been reading about something where the setting is well known -- say vegas -- but you haven't been there and the writer throws in a detail about the place you had no idea about?
i wonder how many people have gone there for a 3 or 4 day get away and never realized there was such a gun club there, or a ski resort nearby? it would be too easy to copy a few descriptions you can find on any website and put it into the text, but it would just be stereotypical vegas that you've seen or read a hundred times.
another question i'm pondering is the difference in the philosophy and lifestyles of the people who live there and those who come seeking riches...
