Going to vegas with 4 other friends Feb 24-27.
Any suggestions on where to stay?
Is there a defined amount on how much you need to gamble to get your room comped? Thanks in advance for any replys

You'll have to bet a lot to get your room comped. Figure playing at least four hours a day at the hotel casino averaging somewhere between $50-$100 per hand.

It sounds like this might be your first trip to Vegas? If so, what sort of things are you wanting to see and do while there? That will help in recommending places to stay.

14 years ago last time I went to vegas. I suppose eat and gamble with a lot a sight seeing. I wouldn't play more than $25 a hand at BJ. Will probably bet some bb at $100 a game. I heard its a good Idea to hit all the hotels and get coupon or fun books and use them.
Thanks again.

If sightseeing's on your agenda, a Strip hotel is probably what you're looking for. Somewhere in the middle, around Caesar's Palace, would be a good location. Wherever you plan on playing a lot, sign up for their casino card and make sure to give it to the dealer whenever you sit down. That'll be your best shot at getting comps. If you've played for several hours, averaging at least $10 a hand or so, ask for a comped dinner when you're getting ready to leave the table.

$25 action will get you some dececent food at some of the local joints, but that's about it.

Here's a great site to find out anything and everything about vegas http://www.lasvegastalk.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=1

Just got back from LV this a.m. - feel very compelled to tell you to avoid the Las Vegas Club downtown - sorry if I offend but the place totally sucks!!! Not ONE good point to sell it on save for its location. No glasses in room (plastic cups instead that weigh .0008 grams), nazi-like "Aus-geepink" staff that are knocking on doors at 8:00 and look perplexed when you appear to be pissed off over intrusion, ice machines on every 5th fl, staffers that don't know their way around neighborhood, plus they microwave the prime rib in the Upper Deck rstrnt I believe, at least it tasted that way.
Don't get me started on the clientele here. WTF do they find these .... people?? Picture the lowest form of human at your SuperWalMart and that is what I saw here, by the cargo-boat load! Some of them looked like they were sired by Jabba the Hut and the Blob. Just strange to see so many in one place, honestly - total Twilight Zone experience. Needless to say they were slot players - no shock there.
One last important point, choose the Strip over downtown/old town. IMO downtown pales by comparison to the Strip in every way. Stay at a place on the strip or place off strip like the Orleans which is great.
Another recommend against is a place called the Artisan off the highway down near the Palace - not designed for sports-minded type.
