Hey guys I'm looking to go Feb 24-27 and I was wondering if any of the regulars could had any advice on a hotel out there. I usually use Expedia but I figured with so many of the other posters out there, they may have some advice. I'll be playing a few grand a day easy. I would probably like to stay at the Bellagio or Venetian. Thanks VT

Try for comp. Offer to send them 10 dimes or something in advance. Others will know the tricks better.

10 dimes might not get you a comp at the Venetian, those guys are tough and offer out very few comp rooms. They try to make their money selling cash rooms mostly, but you can try. Bellagio might be more accomodating. If they are not, that should surely get you a freebie at the Mirage. Not quite as nice as Bellagio, but not the slums either. In any case Vegas is very much a show-me town these days, you can't get comps that easily and these guys often want to see some play upfront before they dish them out. Might make some calls to a host or two beforehand and talk through with them what they will require and see if they can make an arrangement so both sides know what is expected to earn the room. My guess is about $150/hand average at 3-4 hours per day minimum to get the room.

That hasn't been my experience at all. I went the Venetian one time in May. I was up about 3K, because every craps table I walked up to was an ATM machine on that trip. I played for about 2.5 hours at about $50 to $100 on the table on every roll. Soon after I got back, I got an offer for 3 free nights in the hotel. Went back in September and played about the same amount, and got another 3 nights free. It's really too nice for my tastes. I'm not rich, and feel out of place staying there, but I will continue to do so if it continues to be free. My preference would be Bally's or MGM Grand. Nice, classy, but comfortable and still has the middle class feel. Bally's is a great location, too.

WB: I'm sure it works at a certain number. My problem with it is, is it worth doing ( going for the comp) ? No chance with Poker, Sports, or Craps, of the comp. Kind of leaves BJ. Few can beat slots ( Fishhead, and ? ). Not much else is beatable. I assume poster wants a shot to win money.

If getting a 6:5 payoff on natural, you are probably better off paying for the room, and playing away from mid-strip maybe at Stations, Texas, GN, or wherever the good games are. I don't know current conditions, but last time there the 6:5 seemed to be taking over strip BJ ( hand held) and those shuffling machines were at normal pay tables. Makes advantage play real tough. BJ has really fallen, IMO.

I like a nice 2 deck game with 3:2 and best rules I can find.

DOUG--in the past the Venetian offered great comped room deals for playing VP and slots that were beatable. Other than a few slots and some BJ, dont know much that is beatable there now...........maybe some VP that is close to breakeven with the card. If still available and one were brave enough to play their 9/6 $5 J/B triple play(basically over 100% with slot card and comps), you could rack up comps very quickly and get on their good side for years to come.
