Current Line @ Olympic: Utah State -1 (and that is the play here)

we all got to see what utah state is made of thursday when they went to CSUN - and in what should have been a flat spot - flattened the matadors - in a game that was 2B digits for most of it. this is THE MOST IMPORTANT game on the (f)aggies sked. if they win this one they will probably run the table in the big west (only a feb. 28 game @ irvine stands in their way - and they should win that one). pacific is tough - especially at home - but i just think USU is better. the reason i say this is the most important game of the season for them is if they win this one - and run the table all the way to the big west finale - and then lose that - i still think they can get an at-large bid but if they lose this game - and then the
BWT finale - they have NO SHOT at an at large bid. they MUST win this one to assure themselves a post-season bid. i think they will. USU is 7-1 SU on the road while UOP is 9-2 so this should be a great game - but i believe USU will win this one. this game also matches up 2 of the VERY best coaches in america - USU's stew morrill and UOP's bob thomasson - 2 guys 95% of the people out there have never heard of - but 2 coaches who accomplish more with less than just about every coach out there.

on a related note - when a total is posted on this one - take a STRONG look at the under - for i believe this game will be played like an NCAA game - and both teams play solid defense. the last 3 games @ stockton have seen the 2 teams score: 120, 106 and 117. both teams average about 68PPG but USU gives up about 8 PPG less (56 to 64). i fully expect a score of around 60-50 here and if i see anything 120 - or higher - and i think i will - gonna have to look at UNDER - and the higher it is above 120 - the more i will play it.

and i will weigh in on 1 more big worst game:

Fullerton -9.5 vs. Long Beach: NO WAY i consider laying this knowing our (fullerton's) history of covering home spreads of any kind higher than about 2-3 points. look it up - and you will see it is pathetic. but NO WAY do i want long beach here - for they are terrible. don't be confused by that 2-point loss thursday @ riverside - they were down 18 late - and made a miracle comeback. make me play the game and i take the lesser of 2 evils - the points and long beach - but i wouldn't bet $1 on this game even if i was given the $1.

I'm leaning towards UoP in this one, Winky. I think this will be their Super Bowl game and they have enough D to stop the Aggies. Agree an under might be a good play.
Also, Aggies may have outside shot if there are no upsets in conf. tourneys at an at-large, but both teams know the Big West tournament will likely be the be all, end all for them.

Great stuff, Winky...I was leaning to USU anyway, but after reading your info, I'm making it a play.

Thanks for the valuable info.

Winky,

Thanks for the insight info. I know about Stu Merrill, surprised he's still there. Will be more surprised if he does not take the Utah job if offered at seasons end. USU has also been a good tourney team because of the way they play. I think because of down year for Pac10 that even if they win BW w/o winning tourney they'll get to Dance in March. But do like them tonight in what should be a classic. I doubt UoP will start this meeting like they did if first game when they only made 1 of the first 18 shots. Also the only reason to look over total in this one is for the OT potential.

GL,

WinOne!!
