I agree, USC is over-hyped year after year.
But this is a team that gave up only 10 points in their first 2 games.
It just goes to show how hard it is to go undefeated as well as how difficult it is to win on the road in any conference.
For the big name schools, every road game is the home team's National Championship.
My biggest problem with USC's ranking was what had Mark Sanchez ever done to be anointed "the best deep ball passer in college football" as one of the ESPN windbags stated yesterday???
He sucked when he came in relief when Booty was injured last year, but really had done nothing to earn all of this attention.
It will be interesting to see how they bounce back...I wish Oregon's first two QBs were healthy to have a better barometer.
But I think we're all missing the real point...

What does this say about Ohio State???
Now, this is a team that should have absolutely, positively NO SHOT at playing in the National Championship game this year even if they run the table and win by 40 every game.
If the sweater vest won't even try to get aggressive to win a big game on the road, then who cares if he sweeps the shatty Big 10...

I predict a Big 12 team vs. a surprise team to play for the National Championship...I just think the SEC will beat each other up too bad this year with the quality of teams from top to bottom...not only do they need to worry about winning home games against ranked opponents each week, but they also have to go on the road and play some of the toughest games in football as well.

With USC's upset, we should be in for another interesting year of college football...let the madness begin!!!

think before you speak (guess SC doesn't teach that)

SC isn't Stanford, but the old stereotype of SC and academics being an afterthought is just that....

Check the facts.

Miami?:nohead:

This is from the President of the board of trustees from the student government

“If someone from my hometown (Miami) were to inquire about the academic quality at UM...
I would say that it is a sound education with cutting edge technology and world renowned professors.

I know that sounds cliche and what every college campus guide says but, in the most honest terms, UM is moving up the ranks in the national education system scale. We have gone from 65 to 52 in the 7 short years President Shalala has been president of this school.

Under her leadership, opportunities have been presented that UM might not have otherwise received, and it is because she believes in the academic quality of our institution that we continue to make steps to become more technologically sound with professors that are leaders in their fields.”

The University of Miami has routinely ranked in the top academic tier of national rankings of colleges and universities. In the 2009 issue of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges," the University of Miami is included among the magazine's elite "Top Tier" universities, ranked the 51st most academically prestigious among 254 "National Universities" ranked by the magazine.[10] U.S. News & World Report's 2008 ranking of U.S. medical schools ranked the University of Miami's Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine 52nd in the nation. U.S. News & World Report's 2008 ranking of U.S. law schools ranked the University of Miami School of Law 82nd.[11] UM is also one of 146 colleges named a "Best Southeastern College" by the The Princeton Review in its 2006 edition,[12] and the fourth-most diverse student body among all U.S. colleges and universities in its 2007 edition.
In 2006, BusinessWeek included UM's School of Business Administration in its "Top 50" U.S. collegiate business programs, ranking UM the 44th best U.S. undergraduate business program in the nation.[13] The Wall Street Journal, also in 2006, ranked the UM School of Business Administration 14th in its regional ranking category.[14]
For the third year in a row, the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute was ranked the best hospital in the country for ophthalmology in U.S. News and World Report's 2006 survey of “America’s Best Hospitals."[15]
The University of Miami also participates in the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU)'s University and College Accountability Network (U-CAN).

no wonder we're in a depression when we're surrounded by morons

Couldn't agree more, dolt.

SC is...

18th in Law
21st in Business
36th in Medicine.
SC's acceptance rate, 27%. Miami? 46% (may have been 47%)

Latest Princeton review, SC 36, Miami 46.

I could nitpick the article you posted, but don't have the time. Looks like Miami is a good school, I stand corrected. However, my original point is they are not on the same level of USC in sports or academics.

whoever they play next week, I'm going to bet on USC because they will DESTROY that team.

the same thing was expected last season when they lost to stanford...

the next thing you know, they barely edged arizona after trailing by 3 going into the fourth and then leading by only 4 in late stages of the game. needles to say, they were far from covering -21.

next up: oregon

another desperate team that beat them last season.

How do USC and UF compare on academics. Just curious.

I'm not sure. I don't think Florida's acceptance requirements are as high, but they do have a solid academic program. I know they were the #1 rated party school last year!

I would be intrested in data here. I know they are very stringent on acceptance requirements. Not saying that they are or are not tougher than USC. I know without a doubt they are tougher than Miami and Oklahoma. Few years back UF Turned down a 2 LB for academics. Next thing you know one is starting at Miami and one started for stoops at Oklahoma. Take it for what its worth.

This discussion about academics is absurd. When it comes to football USC will admit anybody no matter their academic resume, crime history, etc...

Never called your school inferior academically. I simply stated facts and their is nothing to nitpick. We are ranked almost on par with your school in all fields and rising. I graduated there myself with a business degree and not for pride reasons or anything of the sort I was extremely impressed with all aspects our school. Our diversity and small size really gives us distinction among U.S. schools.

BTW I have a lot of respect for your school. Yesterday i was simply celebrating a win while intoxicated. Its something I only do when USC, Yanks, Duke, and other glorified media teams lose. I'm sure your not happy with your programs lost and out of respect to you I'm sorry if I sounded hurtful in any way.

You should be proud of your degree. Sorry if I came off the wrong way. I'm disappointed in SC's loss to say the least. I know they're disliked by many, so I get it.
GL to you too.

As usual, you're wrong. You're also post the most jibberish on this site, with no facts to back it up. Crawl back to your basement.

Your correct as our school, USC, and countless others disregard all wrong doings, ignorance, and other qualifications as to be accepted in which the rest of the student body has to earn rather than be given.

Its simply called money. Money is what makes this country spin off its axis

Bet you this guy still plays for USC:

LB Recruit Simmons Arrested

Devon Pollard, TrojanWire
The way USC molds linebackers, Maurice Simmons had the potential to make millions in just four years. Now his future might all be changed. Scott Wolf is reporting on the Daily Breeze that the four-star linebacker recruit was arrested Wednesday, for an alleged armed robbery in Compton. One of the top line backer recruits in California, and #4 weak-side linebacker in the country, Simmons boasted 150 tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries as a junior.
"Someone was robbed on the street and we were flagged down by the victim. We then confiscated a handgun and the victim's belongings (from Simmons),'' said Steve Whitmore, a Los Angeles Sheriff Dept. spokesperson.
Simmons is now held on a 50,000 bond and scheduled to be arraigned Friday. USC has said they are aware of the arrest, but have not given any details into their chosen course of action regarding Simmons.

I'll back this up for you. I've met many (over 30) players (won't say who exactly due to respect) and I can tell you first hand that they can not read or write in the 5th grade level.

Take that for what it's worth.

Obviously the academic requirements for athletes are different. But, I also know in the past 5 years, SC has had students not make the team due to academics.
Most on the team are not brain surgeons, no arguement here.
