Sean’s good form in the US Open continues, which is more than can be said of an ageing Tommy Haas, who is up against a tough and tireless competitor in Alejandro Falla. There may also be trouble ahead for the less-than-fit Andrea Petkovic…

Wednesday was a great one at the 2011 US Open for this column, as my men’s bet of the day, Julien Benneteau, thrashed Nico Almagro to bring home a 3.05 winner.
He actually did it too easily, as my advice of a long encounter proved incorrect, but Benny’s win also brought another of my ‘five potential first round upsets’ to fruition, meaning that three of the five recommendations (plus Jack Sock) were successful at big prices.

Also yesterday, Marcos Baghdatis and John Isner eased over the 40.5 games mark to bring home another winning bet.

My other wager was void, as Venus Williams withdrew from the tournament and perhaps from our screens for good, as she’ll now drop out of the world’s top-100.
On to Thursday and there’s a lot to like about today’s line-up at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre and I’ll be starting my day’s betting with an investment on the in-form Petra Cetkovska against flaky Ana Ivanovic.
