The online gambling friendly Central American nation of Costa Rica is about to be invaded by US marines.

The United States is sending 46 war ships, 200 helicopters and 7,000 Marines to "help" in Costa Rica's efforts to rid itself of drug cartels, smugglers, gangs and, quite possibly, even a bookmaker or two.

Costa Rica does not have an army and its police force has a reputation for corruption. In recent years the crime rate continues to escalate.
The Costa Rican press doesn't seem all too thrilled by these latest developments.

Inside Costa Rica:

For the last several days the Minister of Security, Jose Maria Tijerino, the anti-drug commissioner , Mauricio Boraschi and of course Presidenta, Laura Chinchilla have been doing a lot of tap dancing to explain this extraordinary, desperate last resort type measure.

And before the Marines buy out all the condoms of the world after being told prostitution is legal in Costa Rica, I assure you a bunch of legal challenges before this will ever comes to fruition.

The online bookmakers who reside in the country are not exactly ecstatic about this US military surge. Authorities in the States have worked tireless to squash the multi-billion dollar online gambling industry, more feverishly perhaps than efforts to get rid of illegal drugs some might say.

NATO Orders 7,000 US Marines To Costa Rica As Gulf Oil Disaster Quake Fears Grow
Posted by EU Times on Jul 8th, 2010 // 9 Comments

Russian foreign military intelligence directorate (GRU) sources are reporting in the Kremlin today that NATO has ordered over 7,000 US Marines to begin deploying in the Central American Nation of Costa Rica [map 2nd photo left] over fears the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is about to rupture the fracture zone lying between the North American and Caribbean Plates and potentially unleashing upon the America’s a catastrophic earthquake.
As we had previously reported on in our July 4th report titled “NATO Orders All “Critical Assets” Moved 100 Miles Inland From Gulf Oil Spill Region”, NATO’s current Chairman of the Military Committee Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola has taken defacto control over the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster from President Obama who continues to this day leaving this unprecedented catastrophe in the hands of his intelligence services and BP.
Admiral Di Paola’s fears, this report continues, lies in the massive amount of abiogenic oil and methane gases being released from the Gulf of Mexico which many experts are warning could destabilize an already weakened earthquake zone and which Russian scientists are holding responsible for the 5.0 magnitude trembler that hit the Great Lakes region barely a fortnight ago and the 4.6 Virgin Island and 4.7 Guatemala quakes occurring during the past 24 hours.
Equally potentially catastrophic for this region is this massive oil spill occurring during a predicted above average hurricane season as another storm begins churning these troubled waters, it occurring during a time of a total solar eclipse due to occur on July 11th, and as our Sun begins throwing off a number of massive flares, all long associated with earthquakes in both modern and ancient lore.
The connection with catastrophic earthquakes upon our Earth and their association with solar eclipses have long been known and was last evidenced by the January 12, 2010 7.0 magnitude quake that destroyed the Caribbean Island of Haiti killing over 250,000 and occurring 3 days before the January 15, 2010 solar eclipse. Hurricane type storms are also said to be cause of earthquakes by scientists as well as solar flares.
Admiral Di Paola’s decision to move these 7,000 US Marines from their American base in North Carolina to Costa Rica, this report continues, is based upon his need to have “viable forces” positioned on either side of the North American and Caribbean Plate Zones should disaster strike.
Under pressure from NATO, Costa Rica this week granted the US military a six-month window to bring the 7,000 Marines, five planes and 46 warships into its territory by a vote of 31-8 vote by its Legislative Assembly with some lawmakers warning that their Nation was giving up its sovereignty.
And in what could possibly be one of the greatest ironies of all time, (and we’re not making this up, check the links) the American government is saying that its rapid movement of these 7,000 US Marines to Costa Rica is to help this Central American Nation “fight drugs”, while at the exact same time it not only refuses to protect its own drug infested border with Mexico, it has actually sued one of its own States for trying to protect it themselves.
Though the US government continues to blackout nearly all the news of this historic catastrophe from reaching the American people, the same cannot be said of the hundreds, if not thousands of this beleaguered Nations citizens who continue their brave mission to inform their fellow citizens of the dire straight they are all facing, such as:
The New Orleans families that traveled at great peril to the Gulf dodging roadblocks to gather their own samples of the water which show the waters are totally poisoned.
A small, but very brave, American woman named Marguerite Cravatt who at 4’11” stood up to a 6’4” police officer trying to stop her from filming one of the many workers falling ill and having to be taken to hospital.
The Sea Shepherd environmental group whose pilots have braved flying over the Gulf in fear of being shot down to document the catastrophic extent of this spill from the air.
The Archangel Project which has documented the thousands of buses being secreted into the Gulf region for possible evacuations when the true extent of this disaster becomes known.
The Florida Oil Spill Law website that has documented the hundreds of BP oil spill workers falling ill as well as reporting on the deaths occurring there too.
The anonymous BP contract worker who agreed to be interviewed and explained the meaning of the “red flags” and “black flags” being used by cleanup crews.
Though these are but a few of those seeking to tell the truth of these events, there are so many more doing the same thing that it perhaps signals that the power of the propaganda American media that exists only to serve the elite classes of the United States may, in fact, be crumbling as viewership levels have hit record lows among the United States top network newscasts.
But be warned, and as history has proven time and time again, these elite classes will not go down without a fight and care not at all how millions have to die to protect their lives of wealth and privilege.

“ Military men are dumb, stupid animals to be used as pawns for foreign policy”
--Henry Kissinger

Whatever the reason ( excuse ) for the US government to continue expanding and causing unnessary wars. This time they are provoking one in our own soil. they are well-known for never fighting their wars in their country, they are nation destroyers, thats what they do best. The US government does not work for its people, they work for a few families, corporations and bankers, these elite classes will not go down without a fight, and they couldnt care less for your families or friends. For the Americans its time to join the real heroes and patriots that are back home trying to stop this madness, for us ticos, we have enjoyed a lay back, peaceful beautiful life in this beautiful country. But watching these horrifics acts perfectly planned by the architects of this reality and do nithing makes us as guilty as they are.

Wow so maybe CR will finally have a well trained security force for the first time ever. Not some corrupt, poorly trained crooks as a police force. Who also happen to be very afraid of the other crooks who rob, rape, kill, home invade their own people on a daily basis, like nowhere else in the world.

Really a-hole why do you post this crap, all those ships will never be here at once. They won’t even touch ground except for re-fueling or shore leave. They are doing drug patrols. Stop spreading stupid shit.

Let's get down to brass tacks. How much for the ap

YOU stop spreading your stupidity and keep your f-cking mouth shut if you have no clue what you're saying, people like you should feel ashame of themselves.... f-cking blind sheeps, you are the problem, your weakness, your cowardy
you believe what your government and main stream media tells you and for that you are doomed. Do you think Costa Rica is gonna be safe now? Marines are coming to save us? You stupid moron. Marines have been in Gaza for years and I don't see them saving anyone. Marines are protecting people in afganistan algo, right?, now more than 80% percent of casualties are civilians, they are just too busy growing Opium for your government and protecting each other backs. Seriously get your head out of your ass and open your eyes. Nothing good comes when US marines corps appear on the show. WE KNOW THIS. Its a fact.
Big shit coming soon... let us be prepared

Amazing... the topic is important, its a real fact happening right now. I posted it on the Costa Rica Chit Chat because its necessary to informed those who do not know the truth behind the news. I guess its easier to close your eyes and pretend that nothing is happening. This was by far the most important thread in the whole Cost Rica Chit Chat forum. This affects everyone´s life in this country and eventually all ex-pats living in Costa Rica. I´ve seen other threads talking about politic and government issues with insults and different opinions going on for even 70 pages or more. This is outrageous. But its all good, Im sure we´ll all learn the hard way.

Im not expecting a sympathetic ear like you said NES, Im expecting the right to speak my mind on a Costa Rica section that is supposed to be created like it reads on the main page "Offshore Sportsbook Work Scene Info, Afterhour Events, and subjects of interest to our Costa Rican poster" I know they have the right to decide what should be available for the rx posters and the public. But I thought the moderators were objective on all these topics, I have many friends who served on the military, they are proud of what the did, on behalf of their country, family and friends but they all agree with me on this issue. Like I said, simply outrageous.

Where's the dipshit who started this thread, now is his chance to attack, the almighty warships are almost here, they are going to be going to the poor areas to help out the sick, the poor, the people who can't help themselves or get medical care in CR, their own country.

This is the fifth such humanitarian deployment to the region since 2007, the nerve of these bastards. Quick go to Limon and protest, block all the streets with your Hyundai, burn tires and hang the army doctors in effigy!!!

Now is your chance!!!!!!!! Hurrryy!!

U.S. Warship On Its Way To Costa Rica

Costa Rica's Caribbean coast will soon be host to the first of the U.S. warship visits approved by the Legislative Assembly. And although the USS Iwo Jima comes in peace, the presence of the ship that is capable of deploying more than 1.500 U.S. militaries, is causing concern.

Timothy Burgess, embarked aboard the multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima, conducts medical examinations during a Continuing Promise 2010 medical community service event. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Christopher B. Stoltz/Released)
According to the U.S. Embassy in San José, the Iwo Jima is part of the U.S. Southern Command's “Continuing Promise 2010”, a humanatarian mission that brings free health care and other services to the locals of the province of Limón and other areas of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Iwo Jima is on a four month long mission, deploying the ship's unique embarked humanatarian teams, comprised of U.S. military personnel, partner nations’ forces and civilian relief volunteers – that will provide medical care and infrastructure improvements in eight nations.

The Continuing Promise missions offer planning & coordination training for military personnel while providing valuable services to communities in need.
USS Iwo Jima departed from Norfolk, Va. on July 12. A crew of about 1,600 Sailors and Marines will conduct humanitarian and civic assistance operations in eight nations: Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Nicaragua, Panama, and Suriname. The mission aims to foster goodwill and demonstrate U.S. commitment and support to Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

This is the fifth such humanitarian deployment to the region since 2007.

These large amphibious ship resembles a small aircraft carrier. For this deployment, the USS Iwo Jima is outfitted with 10 helicopters (eight CH-46 E Sea Knights & two MH-60S Knighthawks) and 2 Landing Craft Utility (LCUs) which will play a key role in transporting personnel, patients and equipment to and from shore.

Last July, Costa Rica's legislators approved the entry of 46 U.S. warships in Costa Rican waters, mostly to carry out anti-drug missions in conjunction with the Costa Rican Coast Guard.

The approval has sparked an outrage for the presence of U.S. warships and up to 7.000 U.S. military personnel in Costa Rican territory.

Critics say the government is selling out to U.S. interests, that include politicians and student groups.

Costa Rica abolished its army in 1948.
