daringly:

terrible move for this country ...

Bush needs to stay the hell out of dodge .. this idea of forcing Israel to give up their land to create a Palestinian state living side by side with them will never work

The Palestinians are Arabs .. with one common goal: the complete destruction of Israel ... this would be like Bush forcing Texas to give up land so Bin Ladens' boys can set up a state ...

This is a baddddd move by Bush ... will not work ... anyone thinking it will needs to understand the Arab hatred that the exsists for the complete destruction of the Israeli state ...

The consequences are not good for this country if Bush continues to push this disaster proposal

The PLO Charter still calls for the destruction of Israel, not a side by side state with Israel as neighbors

How bad do they really want peace w/Israel? How bout today as another prime example of why forcing Israel to give up land is nuts:

Rash of Palestinian terrorist attacks Saturday night. Roadside bomb blows up Israeli car, injures three – man, his wife and baby - on West Bank Metsad road northwest of Hebron. Two more bombs discovered nearby.

Incidents in N. Jerusalem: Palestinians hurl fire bombs at Mount Scopus Hadassah hospital where many receive medical care. In Issawiya village, undercover police unit detains Palestinian who tossed bottle bombs at gas station on Jerusalem-Maale Adummim highway

The friend of my enemy is my enemy as well.

Why did Bin Laden attack the US? Our support for Israel. Since 1949, the US has given about $3b/year in direct aid, and (roughly) another $2b/year in indirect aid (i.e. debt forgiveness). A majority of this money is used to support Israel's military. This funding, and our willingness to sell equipment to the Israelis, ahs given them a "first-world" military, against which the local regional powers and Palestinians cannot opopse.

We all know about the Palestines, and their cause. "Destroy Israel!" Retake Jerusalem! And as fast as the Palestinians can shout, the Israelis can shoot them. I cannot tell you who's "in the wrong" in this conflict - probably both after generations of escalation. But why are the Palestinians so willing to get themselves killed in this conflict? I'd argue it is their low standard of living. A nation with luxuries becomes fat and content. They have nothing to distract them from their "enemy". How many wealthy doctors or lawyers in the US would give up their home and money to pursue some religious crusade?

IF a Palestinian state can be created, and the Israelis could feel secure in the arrangement, that would do more to prevent terror than any number of smart- bombs or Fullujah offensives. A self-ruled state would do much better economically than an Israeli-policed one.

Realize, since 1949, we've given the Israelis about $100b in aid. This supported a regime which had been in near constant conflict since that time. Carter successfully brokered a lasting peace between Israel and Egypt... Who's to say a more extensive peace couldn't be bought? Long-term, paying for this up front would cost much less than the alternatives.

daringly.....yes, there are billions of reasons to quit coddling Israel....always gives me a warm feeling to know that the states use budget cuts and layoffs because there isn't enough money in the state budget to cover expenses that cost a million dollars, yet there is always billions of dollars to ship overseas that will never be seen again. What a fawking waste.

If the aid to Israel was taken directly out of the politician's paycheck you'd see all the bleeding hearts close up the shop overnight. Fvck Israel, and all the other leeches on our budget.

Now, I didn't advocate cutting aid to Israel. That would be political suicide for two reasons: 1. many of the wealthiest in the US support the Israeli cause; and 2. we need a secure foothold in the mid-east to project power in the region. Without an Israeli ally, Saudi Arabia and other middle-east countries would be a lot less cooperative.

Wasn't putting words in your mouth, just pointing out how America wastes billions of dollars overseas while at the same time letting the 50 states rust to pieces.....my, we have a considerate group of politicians, don't we?
