RT, good stuff. You'd think in 2014 stuff like this couldn't happen. I was always curious how they nixed Jimbo back in 2006.

well, someone has to pay for the non-revenue generating sports but i doubt it has much impact on this. it might just mean more sports at UAB get closed down...soccer program is in great shape at least, and a new complex being built. So we've got that going for us :)

one thing this will do is begin a domino effect for small conference teams. UAB will get kicked out of CUSA (their rules state all programs in CUSA must play D1A football) so a move to A10, SBC, or MVC is upcoming. CUSA will need to invite a new team (likely SBC program or a FCS interested in making the jump),

of course the other thing is coaches and players. coach Clark is a class coach ready to make a bump to power conference of top-flight non-power program, as his is OC....and certainly looks like some nice jobs coming open. as far as players the top guy, RB Jordan Howard, will find a home at a bigger program while I'd guess Troy, So Bama, Ga State, and a few others will pick through the rest.

Not sure their coach will get a "power conference" job right away, but he did a good job. That's a shame. I hope he gets a severance package.

I looked at their roster....very JR & SR laden. They have 3 JRs and 1 SO on the OL. I'd love to see one of them transfer to UF! They have a 6'4 SO WR that's a starter as well.

CUSA has 13 teams so UAB does not have to be replaced. The problem is that they were never really good to begin with. It is too bad, but you have a small state and they just cannot keep up with the money needs.

There were rumors a while back that Hawaii's football program was also in danger of shutting down. Anything new on that?

Ya know CP, and RT I'm sure has a better fix on this than I do, but doubt that has had any influence. Gonna give ya my two cents. I played for Vandy, the Vols are the school in Tennessee, always have been, always will be, I can't change that. Memphis has come along, but THEN you have Middle Tennessee, who has made a lot of noise the past 2 or 3 years. State of Tennessee isn't shutting them down in the foreseeable future and my brethren in the state think what they've done for college football is great. That all being said, money is money, and if you're losing money, even as an individual, what do ya do?
