Members of the 3rd Infantry Division shot at the van, which was carrying 13 civilian passengers, as it approached a checkpoint.

They were NOT "innocent"

WASHINGTON - U.S. troops killed seven Iraqi women and children at a checkpoint Monday when the Iraqis' van would not stop as ordered, a military official said.

The dead and wounded were among 13 women and children in a van that approached the checkpoint but did not stop, the official said. Soldiers fired warning shots and then shots into the vehicle's engine, neither of which stopped it, he said.

Frank, why were they NOT innocent? Because they didn't obey the orders of the US armed forces? We didn't shoot at the French when we "liberated" them!!
And how much do you want to bet they ordered them to stop in English and simply assumed these people spoke it?

For some reason I think there are two sides to this story - our side and what really happened.

I can't blame the soldiers because they have to be a nervous wreck looking out for potential suicide attacks. But like all the righties says, these kids chose a life in the miliatry so they DESERVE TO DIE when it happends.

I have very little sympathy for anyone who follows an order mindlessly.
I support the troops meaning, I wish for their safe return, but to kill women and children is a flawed order.

simply because you support a cause/group, doesn't mean that you shouldn't or can't possibly disagree with certain actions.

radio, you are exposed... You dont support the troops on the ground! You would rather have a car bomb kill the troops then for them to protect themselves against a van that would not stop coming towards them.

I guess you will "support" them by saying they are lying...

War is flawed.Every war will have injustice and horrors. This is the nature of it.Is it right or is it wrong.I don't know.I guess it depends on the reason. Is there a good enough reason to go to war? There must be.Is this it?Don't know.I guess history will be the judge of that. But I am neither shocked nor surprised by such occurences.Merely saddened.

Frank, you sir, are incorrect. Foraging through every post in your search to find a reason to attack the character of another is nothing more than an intoxicated attempt to gain ground in an argument built on sand.
I support the troops. Period. That is all.

But answer me this, Frank, why is it that we didn't gun down Frenchmen during their liberation?
Could it be that this simple difference exposes the long history of prejudice towards non-whites in the US military? Could this really be a war designed to murder Arabs?
All is worth at least a moment's consideration.

Frank,

I need not justify my support or resolve to you...
I support the US more than its troops. Therefore, any action that places US citizens in danger (like unwarranted attacks on sovereign countries by ignorant, bellicose leaders) is an action that is extremely anti-american.

>I need not justify my support

Because you cannot. The slogan "I support the troops" is just a feel-good one for you thinking that it might get you off the hook, so to speak.

No. I do not support genocide. Support for a group still leaves room to reprimand those who are mistaken and do more to hurt the cause than help it.

RFC,because in the French situation,I don't think there was an expectancy of a substantial portion of their population sabatoging the efforts of the Americans trying to free them. Here I think the circumstance is somewhat different.

>is an action that is extremely anti-american.

radio, you live on another planet...

This "action" has the support of BOTH Houses of congress and 70% of the U.S. how is that anti-american?

The majority, here, is wrong. They have not been given the whole truth. This action will only engender more terrorist attacks and make it utterly unsafe for american's travelling abroad.
what good is being free if one is only free in the "motherland"?
