I don't know, Tech pays Leach pretty well as he's already getting like 1.8 Mill a year from them. I doubt UW offers leach more than $2mill a year if that.

UW will offer in the 2-3 mill per year range. He's probably just using UW to pump up the salary at Tech.

If UW ends up with Pat Hill I'll fucking shoot myself.

Pat Hill is a bad ass coach. He's been winning in that shithole known as Fresno State consistently for the past 10 years. Give him a bigger stage and he will shine.
The guy UW should be going after though if they don't get Leach is CHris Peterson from Boise.
LAst year with the UCLA coaching vacancy my top 2 choices were PEterson and Leach. LEach came to UCLA but UCLA dropped the ball and didn't pursue him. They did try to pursue Peterson and I think he was one of the first guys they went after but apparently LEach wasn't hot on leaving Boise for Los Angeles. I think he's a Northwest guy and UW would be a nice fit for him since Oregon is now out of the picture with Kelly being next in line there after Bellotti leaves.

Peterson would be nice but so far his name hasn't even been mentioned. This crew they have the UW is being so gawd damned secretive. It's some clandestine operation to say the least.

Peterson said he's not interested in the Washington job.

I dont see there is anyway he doesnt take the washington job. He will get to build this program from the bottom. Plus he wont have to battle tx and okla for recruits every year.

why? so he can battle pete carroll for the one 5 star recruit in the pacific northwest? most of the decent players from that area would rather go to boise st and dominate anyway

I don't think Peterson has any desire to leave Boise, so that may be why his name is never mentioned. He's a terrific coach though, definitely better than Leach imo.

NFL style offense>>>>>>>>>>>gimmick run n' gun offense
If this were 1991, I'd agree with you. But that's completely asinine in 2008.

USC basically gets any player it wants west of Texas. It plays against bad to mediocre defenses most weeks. Yet SC is only ranked 16th in total offense and 13th in points per game.

The two teams who are in all likelihood going to be playing for the national title are the two already premier schools who implemented wide-open offenses.

Penn State was stagnant offensively the past few seasons, Paterno brought in spread principles and handed the reins to a versatile QB, and PSU is ahead of SC in total offense and ppg.

SC has backups who will be playing in the NFL and the best defense in the nation. Texas Tech could not compete with the Trojans. But give Carroll and Leach similar talent and the smart money is on Leach.

It's amazing how Auburn and Notre Dame remain the two schools resigned to playing football like it was the 1970s. Not surprising that they are regressing tremendously.
Leach, Peterson and Todd Graham are way too innovative for Auburn to hire them. The next Auburn coach will be someone who thinks a good running game and strong defense wins, despite the fact that it only takes one glance at the current landscape of college football to realize that is simply untrue.

this job appears toxic. I am thinking that the huskies set their sights too high trying to make a splash. If they fail to deliver a high profile guy whomever they do get will not be starting his tenure with much fan enthusiasm...

It's a "cultural" issue, Lubbock, Texas and Seattle, Washington.

Most coaches would need as heart-transplant before taking [that] job.

Leach not coming to Washington according to ESPN.:ohno:
Yeah, I heard the contract was there for him if he wanted the job. But he turned it down. I've also heard tonight that OU assistant Venables has also talked to Washington.

at this point he can pretty much do what he wants in Lubbock. Strange antics and all.. I'm not sure that these kinds of things will play well in a big city like Seattle.

You act like he's into Bondage and whips and chains or something bizarre along those lines. He seems like a pretty decent guy to me. I'm sure quite a few programs would love to have him.

That's OK, Pete Carroll was like USC's fifth choice and had to campaign for the job himself, that worked out pretty well.
If I'm UW and Peterson is not interested the next guy I go after is Brian Kelly from Cincinnatti, that guy is the next Urban Meyer.

I don't think Kelly will leave Cincy for another season or two (he says he's staying, at least), but wouldn't Jake Locker be a good fit for his offense? I'd like to see that.

It is not OK. Both those guys have already rebuffed UW also. Next?

Sarkisian is my guess.
