CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. -- A Springboro, Ohio man is accused of abducting the owner of a Long Island sports betting business whom he blamed for losing $200,000, police said Tuesday.
Douglas Warner, 57, was to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court on charges of kidnapping, robbery, attempted grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
Suffolk County Detective Lt. Edward P. Reilly said Warner traveled Sunday to Oakdale, on Long Island, and abducted George Villano, 47, in the parking lot of the Platinum Sports Advisory, a sports betting business.
Warner was armed with a handgun, a stun gun and a bulletproof vest, Reilly said.
Warner drove Villano to his home, where Villano gave him $4,800, Reilly said. Warner then dropped Villano off at the Sayville Motor Lodge after Villano promised to come up with the rest of the money the following morning, he said.
Villano immediately contacted police who arrested Warner, following a brief struggle, Monday morning at Platinum Sports Advisory, Reilly said.
A loaded handgun was found in Warner`s car, he said.
