Aloha Gang....Well lets get this party started....Yesterday, I didnt do to good in the MLB....and went 1-1 in the CWS.....But the bright spot is that my selections in the CWS is a combined
6-2 so far, highlighted by me hitting
TWO--BIG GAME PLAY EZ WINNERS.....Today I am liking both of the games in the CWS and will look to extend this positive winning record in the CWS.....If you cant love the one you want (MLB), then love the one your with (CWS)...LOL....or until FOOTBALL rolls around again............Anyways, that concludes this mornings BS meeting.....Now on to the Business of Spanking the "Bitch".....LETS ROCK!
**TOP 3 UNIT BIG CWS FAV PLAY ON:
Texas -185
-Balance is Key......and Texas has more of it, and Georgia has less..
Texas got here by sweeping their regionals field by a combined score of 25-5 in what is stated to be the most lopsided super regionals ever...WOW!...Georgia, like I mentioned in yesterdays Write-Up is just as lucky to be here as was Arizona.....Georgia got back to back jacks in the nineth against Clemson to move on.....Talk about living on a prayer.....Well, today, they are going to meet Gods pick to win the CWS with Texas, so their prayers wont be answered today.....LOL.
Lets start with the Coaching matchup....Coach Garrido for Texas makes his 11th trip to Omaha, and has 4 CWS Titles under his belt.....His last title was with Texas in 2002.....Coach Perno for Georgia is making his 1st ever trip to Omaha....
Now, on to the teams.....Now it is stated by some experts that the way to beat Texas is by AMAZING PITCHING....Not Good, but Amazing....Does Georgia have what it takes with their guys on the hill?....Well Georgia's strength does lie in their pitching, primarily in their awesome BP with Startup and Lanier, who both can toss the ball in the low to mid 90's....But a problem is , the Bulldog starters first have to get the ball in their hands with the lead....Not an easy thing to do vs this scrappy squad of Texas..
Texas is not a power hitting team like that of SC, Fullerton, or possibly even Arizona, but they are good....and I use the term good, because I feel that is also how the Georgia starting pitchers are "good", not "great".....In this matchup between a good hitting lineup of Texas vs a good pitching squad of Georgia, I have to give the edge to Texas, because for one, they will work you hard, and two, they are rested....Not to mention, that they have seen what this Georgia team has to offer already, and has totally demolished it already....
Now, as far as, Texas on the hill vs Georgia at the plate......well, now that is where a HUGE disparity and advantage lies with the Longhorns....This Texas team is very deep and loaded with a stable of talented pitchers....The BP is stacked with Smokers who can toss the ball in the 90's + range ez....Texas's Top 3 starters are solid as they come.....Below are their stats....
SP -- J.P. Howell (14-2, 2.26 ERA)
SP -- Sam LeCure (9-3, 2.40)
SP -- Justin Simmons (10-3, 4.21)
RP -- Huston Street (5-1, 1.46, 12 saves)
Texas enters this years CWS with the Second best ERA in the country and a Top 10 fielding %.....Oh My!
Now, Georgia like I mentioned earlier here, has a potent BP especially with Startup, but so does the Longhorns with their BP Stud Ace, Huston Street(2002 CWS MVP).....Street has a record of 5-1, 12 saves, and an ERA of 1.46...Amazing!....Here are both players stats.....
RP(Tex) -- Huston Street (5-1, 1.46, 12 saves)
RP(Geo) -- Will Startup (7-2, 2.34, 10 saves)
Georgia at the plate vs Texas's monsters on the hill will be in trouble and held to a minimum of hits today....Georgia's lineup is just Ok, and they dont have the guns throughout that lineup to take it to the Texas pitchers, besides 1st B Josh Morris, who btw is the only hitter in the Georgia lineup with double digit HR total with 16....Today, I see the Texas pitchers doing what the MLB pitchers do with Barry Bonds of the Giants,....not let one guy beat them, and this will just pitch around him, especially with guys on base......After Morris is neutralized, I dont see anyone else in that lineup of the Bulldogs to really press and threaten the pitching staff of the Longhorns at all, and that spells trouble for Georgia...
If Georgia was only able to get 3 runs off of Arizona's starter, who had an average record and a ERA over 6.....How much can they possible expect to get off of this Awesome Pitching Squad of the Longhorns......I say not much....Because of this HUGE advantage in pitching that Texas will have over the Bulldogs bats, I have to say it definately points to a complete sweep and elimination of the Bulldogs run for the CWS Title today....Longhorns in a Massacre!...
