Say goodbye to the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl.
Last June, the bitcoin payment startup BitPay cut a three-year deal with ESPN to be the title sponsor of the St. Petersburg Bowl, an annual NCAA college football postseason game. The game took place on December 26 in Florida, between North Carolina State University and the University of Central Florida, and there were supposed to be two more years of the game with the ‘Bitcoin Bowl’ branding. But the sponsorship has abruptly ended.
ok, thanks for the clarification! I remember laughin at it last year, i didnt realize bitcoins were big enough to be bowl status
I wouldn't bet on it. All of the coaches will tell you the extra 2 to 3 weeks of practice time is invaluable going into next season. Many schools lose money on these bowls. But the extra exposure the schools get are somewhat of a trade off for the lost revenue. The schools will stand up eventuallly and refuse to play if they are losing$$$$ while ESPN rakes it in.
Thats my hope anyway.
