Yesterday was a middler's (and line shopper's) dream:
Sac by 4
Dallas by 8
Wake by 3
UConn by 5
Wisky by 15
Ohio St by 10
Xavier by 12
St Johns by 1

Did I miss any?

All right at or on the the number. And there are people who still wonder why others obsess over middling? :suomi:

...must have been a tough night for Skybook.

I remember one Saturday last year where like 15 games hit right on the number in one day. It was absolutely unreal.

To clarify, I didn't hit all these, just noting the ones that hit. I did have 3 of them in one way or another though (Sac, Wake and Wisky).

D2- Do you ever bet 4 team monster teasers, betting both sides of the same game? I have had some success while experimenting with it, trying to find 2 games at a time where I think the score will land very close to the number.

NEVER! Very very bad from a numbers standpoint and I'm not smart enough to beat the math. Hoops teasers are bad enough as it is without basically betting against yourself.

A little friendly advice: stop while you're ahead.

I don't know about that. I'm not convinced at this point. All you have to do is pick 2 games where you think the number is right on. 9 points each way ties lose even money at 5 dimes.

Illini, please trust me. That's around -240 per game that it will fall within 9 either way. Ask some of the database people are here. That is no good. If it was good, you would be better off simply betting on side on 4 different events. Think about it, let's say you know the one side cashes, would you then rather have the other side that you know is limited in how much it can win by or would you rather have another unlimited result.

I'm probably not making sense in how I explained that. Just be cautious with this, please. I'm lookin' out for a fellow Illini here, I promise you. :toast:

Maybe there's some math guys around here who can explain this more cogently?

You're probably right. But I'm pretty selective and don't bet them that often. I know it's not true to say this, but to me, it's a juice Bonus Bet. Just win more than you lose. How many games do you look at and say....no reason to bet it, all that I'll get is a push. Duke, WF, Cincy, L'ville last night went just as I hoped.

Alright then but please just don't try to make a killing on these. Bet em small and let me know how it goes. And if you do win you can be really proud of yourself for beating the numbers because what you are doing is not an easy task.

I believe you, and I will continue to be selective. What percent of college basketball games as a whole beat the spread by more than 8.5 points?

I wouldn't call it trying to beat the numbers, just letting the oddsmakers do their job and be pretty accurate. And I know a line is not a prediction, but a lot of times, I feel like it is a very accurate prediction.

The kinds of games I've looked at doing this with are 10 point favorites at home that will win, but that I don't think will win by 20, and very good teams that will usually play close games against each other. Like Cincy, Wake last week, and the games I mentioned last night.

When hunting for scalps and middles, what is the best way to view multiple book's numbers?

DB or GandJ
multiple monitors
many windows open at once
printing out lines
what is easiest on the eyes and brains?

thanks in advance

Try out different things and see what works for YOU. Everyone is different. But one thing I would suggest, instead of multiple windows, use Mozilla Firefox and create the tabs for all your books. That way you can use just ONE window with tabs to all your books. It's a beautiful thing. Multiple monitors would make my head spin but I'm sure some do it.

Acw,

Funny you say that cuz Pinny seems to be on the 'right' end of the arb more often than not and I am frequently funding pinny .... not really hammering any other books as in many cases it is spread throughout a number of books.

Also, keep in mind that the times you are saying are confusing is not when I placed the bet but when that line actually came into existence and created the arb. Those times are not when I placed the wager.

Good thread :)
