(955) PITTSBURGH PIRATES VS (956) ATLANTA BRAVES

Take: UNDER

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Thursday, August 4, 2016 is in the baseball contest between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Braves in Atlanta. Pittsburgh heads out on the road with an average offense, 15th in runs, 19th in on-base percentage. Pittsburgh is on a 7-1 run under the total on the road, and the Under is 9-1 in the Pirates last 10 road games vs. a right-handed starter. Atlanta is a big park and veteran Ryan Vogelsong (3.74 ERA) will step in as a starter. The Under is 12-4-1 in the Braves last 17 games vs. a right-handed starter. Atlanta's offense is dreadful, last in baseball in runs scored. Tyrell Jenkins is on the mound, off a 2-1 win over Philadelphia with no earned runs allowed. And the Under is 4-0 in Jenkins' last 4 starts overall. Play the UNDER Pittsburgh/Atlanta Braves.

Dinamo Minsk vs Vojvodina

Bonus Play Draw when these two teams meet Thursday in Russia.

The total is set at 2 so they are expecting a low score. I think it ends 1-1.

CWS vs DET

Bonus Play UNDER 8.5

While the Detroit Tigers have won their last eight games, I have won my last eight Games of the Week/Month in baseball so we both have something in common and that is WE are on FIRE!....I have a lean on the Tigers Moneyline here as they are 16-3 this season as a home favorite of -125 to -150 and the White Sox are 0-7 their L7 games as a road underdog of +125 to +150. But looking at this game closer, I am going to recommend a Free 1* Play on the UNDER of 8 .5 runs.

Jose Quintana is on the mound today and the UNDER is 17-3 in his 20 starts this season. Quintana is the best UNDER pitcher in the Majors this season and I think this spot fits him today. It’s an afternoon game which means a few starters might be sitting. Quintana has already made 11 day starts this season which is more than is 10 night starts, so this is a familiar role for him. In his 2 starts vs the Tigers this season, Quintana has a 2.38 FIP and a 3.35 FIP. His last two road starts (@ Minnesota and @ Seattle) have been excellent to the tune of 16 strikeouts in 12.2 IP and only 2 ER given up.

Jordan Zimmerman makes his first start since coming off the DL and sources say Zimmerman has fixed his mechanics that were hurting him before landing on the DL. Zimmerman opened the season only giving up 2 ER in his first five starts in April and I expect him to regain the form

Brian O’Nora will be behind home plate and he has historically been a good under umpire with a big strike zone. The Under is 3-1 this season when the total is 8.5 or less. He was the umpire on 4/09 when Kershaw and Bumgarner dueled to a 3-2 game. There were 20 strikeouts and only 5 walks called in that game. Point being it looks like O’Nora likes to call the game in favor of the pitchers, especially when there are two quality guys on the mound. He just called the Blue Jays/Orioles game last Sunday with Sanchez and Tillman on the mound. That score was tied 2-2 going into extras. Dating back to last season, the Under is 8-3 in O'Nora L11 games behind home plate. The UNDER is also 6-2 in his L8 Thursday games vs Detroit and 7-2 to the UNDER in his L9 Thursday games overall. I think we see a close game here with a final score in the 3-2 range. (1* Under the Total)

Royals vs Rays

Play - Kansas City Royals w/Kennedy

Edges - Royals: Ian Kennedy 17 Ks and 4 BBs last three starts. Rays: 2-6 on Thursdays this season; and Drew Smyly 1-6 with 6.35 ERA and 1.59 WHIP last seven team starts; and 1-5 team starts versus A.L. Central this season. With that, look for the Rays to fall to 3-18 the last 21 games in this series here this afternoon. We recommend a 1* play on Kansas City. Thank you and good luck as always.

Preview: Twins at Indians

GAME: Minnesota Twins (43-64) at Cleveland Indians (60-45)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, August 04 - 12:10 PM EST
WHERE: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cleveland Indians entered the week with the best pitching staff in the American League and a clear path to the postseason, but things are not going as planned of late. The Indians will try to find a pitcher who can get some outs at the start and avoid a four-game sweep when they host the American League-worst Minnesota Twins in the series finale on Thursday.

Cleveland was outscored 35-16 in losing the first three games of the series and starting pitchers Danny Salazar, Carlos Carrasco and Trevor Bauer were responsible for 22 of those runs – 21 earned – in just 8 1/3 innings. The Indians’ lead in the AL Central has been trimmed to two games over the Detroit Tigers, who have won eight in a row and just got slugger J.D. Martinez off the disabled list. Cleveland is just 4-8 against the Twins this season and has allowed 75 runs in those 12 contests. Minnesota is taking a look at some of its younger players in the series and is getting great results from rookie right fielder Max Kepler, who is 7-for-12 with four home runs, 10 RBIs and eight runs scored in the series.

TV: 12:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins LH Hector Santiago (10-4, 4.25 ERA) vs. Indians RH Mike Clevinger (0-1, 7.71)

Santiago switched losing teams at the trade deadline in a four-player deal with the Los Angeles Angels despite earning a victory in six straight starts and winning seven consecutive decisions. The 28-year-old allowed three or fewer earned runs in his last three starts but did not complete six innings in any of those turns. Santiago’s worst start came against Cleveland on June 10, when he was ripped for six runs – five earned – on seven hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings.

Clevinger will take the rotation spot vacated when Danny Salazar was placed on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation earlier in the week. The 25-year-old rookie made three starts in May and allowed a totaled of 14 runs in 14 1/3 innings in that role. Clevinger, who tossed two scoreless innings of relief in his last major league appearance on July 5, is 11-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 17 starts for Triple-A Columbus.

WALK-OFFS

1. Twins 1B Joe Mauer is 10-for-15 with eight runs scored and six RBIs in the series.

2. Indians 1B Mike Napoli has homered in five straight games.

3. Cleveland RHPs Cody Anderson and Shawn Armstrong were optioned to the minors after Wednesday's game.

PREDICTION: Indians 10, Twins 6

Preview: Royals at Rays

GAME: Kansas City Royals (51-56) at Tampa Bay Rays (43-63)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, August 04 - 12:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Tampa Bay Rays made a lot of changes in the offseason that were designed to improve their offensive production and the results have been negative overall. The Rays look to build off one of their best performances with the bats and gain a split of a four-game series when they host the Kansas City Royals in the finale on Thursday afternoon.

Tampa Bay stands last in the American League in batting average and near the bottom in runs scored, but recorded 14 hits en route to a 12-0 victory on Wednesday night. Rays left-hander Drew Smyly looks to turn the tables after giving up eight runs in four innings against the Royals in May and will oppose Ian Kennedy, who is 1-4 lifetime versus Tampa Bay. Kansas City is last in the majors in runs scored and managed just two hits in Wednesday’s loss – its first in six games against the Rays this season. Lorenzo Cain had one of the hits for the Royals and is 3-for-7 in the last two games after going 0-for-9 in his first three outings following a month-long stint on the disabled list due to a hamstring injury.

TV: 12:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RH Ian Kennedy (6-9, 4.23 ERA) vs. Rays LH Drew Smyly (3-11, 5.29)

Kennedy allowed one run over seven innings last time out at Texas, but was held out of the decision and is winless in six starts. The USC product boasts 123 strikeouts in 121 1/3 innings and has yielded three or fewer runs in six of his last eight starts with just one win in that span. Brad Miller is 3-for-4 with a homer versus Kennedy, who did not permit an earned run over six innings in a no-decision against Tampa Bay on May 30.

Smyly snapped an 11-game winless stretch last Saturday when he limited the New York Yankees to two runs and four hits over six innings. The 27-year-old had given up at least four runs in five straight starts, but has been better in his last two outings with three tallies allowed in 12 innings. Cain is 4-for-10 with a homer versus Smyly, who is 4-2 with a 4.09 ERA in 14 games (six starts) against Kansas City in his career.

Preview: Cardinals at Reds

GAME: St. Louis Cardinals (57-50) at Cincinnati Reds (43-63)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, August 04 - 12:35 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The St. Louis Cardinals have manhandled the Cincinnati Reds regardless of venue in recent history, winning 18 of the last 22 series - including eight of 11 at Great American Ball Park. The Cardinals look to add another victory to those totals on Thursday afternoon when the National League Central rivals conclude their three-game set in Cincinnati.

Stephen Piscotty launched a solo homer in Wednesday's 5-4 victory, to mark his third straight game with a hit after beginning the road trip by going 0-for-12 with eight strikeouts. The 25-year-old has struggled mightily versus the Reds in his career (18-for-80), with a 1-for-8 effort and four strikeouts against Thursday starter Brandon Finnegan. While St. Louis snapped a three-game skid, cellar-dwelling Cincinnati fell for just the second time in six outings. Joey Votto carries a personal-best 17-game hitting streak into the finale versus St. Louis, against which he has batted .306 in his career.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Mike Leake (8-8, 4.50 ERA) vs. Reds LH Brandon Finnegan (6-8, 4.68)

Leake is hoping his second trip to Great American Ball Park goes better than the first, as the former Red allowed six runs on 10 hits - including a pair of homers - in a no-decision on June 7. The 28-year-old Leake has also permitted six earned runs in back-to-back starts, but improved to 3-1 in his last four after St. Louis slugged its way to an 11-6 victory. For all of his troubles, Leake can hang his hat on the fact that hasn't walked a batter in 30 consecutive innings.

Like Leake, Finnegan also improved to 3-1 in his last four starts on Friday after scattering four hits and striking out five in six innings of a 6-0 victory over San Diego on Friday. The 23-year-old has struggled with the home-run ball after surrendering 10 in his previous four outings before keeping the Padres in check. Finnegan also kept the Cardinals in the park on June 9, allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings of a no-decision.

WALK-OFFS

1. St. Louis 1B Brandon Moss is 12-for-28 with five homers and three doubles versus Cincinnati this season.

2. Reds OF Adam Duvall has collected nine hits and seven runs scored in his last seven contests.

3. The Cardinals' 32 road wins are just one shy of Washington for the most in the majors.

Preview: Giants at Phillies

GAME: San Francisco Giants (61-46) at Philadelphia Phillies (50-59)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, August 04 - 1:05 PM EST
WHERE: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The National League West-leading San Francisco Giants look to avoid being swept when they visit the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday afternoon for the finale of their three-game set. After squandering a late lead and dropping a 13-8 decision in the series opener, San Francisco watched a four-run lead disappear on Wednesday and suffered a 5-4 loss in 12 innings.

Buster Posey drove in three runs and scored the other as he recorded the third two-hit performance of his four-game hitting streak for the Giants, who own a two-game division lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers. San Francisco needs to improve its play on the road in order to remain atop the NL West, as it has lost nine of its 10 games away from home since the All-Star break. Maikel Franco has played a big role in the series for Philadelphia thus far, driving in seven runs - including the game-winner on Wednesday. The Phillies attempt to complete their first series sweep since taking three from visiting Atlanta from July 4-6, which also was their last series victory.

TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, CSN Bay Area (San Francisco), NBC 10 (Philadelphia)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Matt Moore (7-7, 4.08 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Vince Velasquez (8-3, 3.32)

Moore looks to win his third consecutive start as he makes his debut for the team against which he allowed two runs and six hits over six innings of a no-decision on June 18. The 27-year-old Floridian is riding a streak of six straight starts in which he yielded three earned runs or fewer. Moore lost his only career start against the Phillies as he surrendered four runs on five hits and three walks in 4 2/3 frames on July 20, 2015 at Philadelphia.

Velasquez had his unbeaten streak halted at seven starts Friday as he suffered a hard-luck loss at Atlanta after allowing just two runs and seven hits in six innings. The 24-year-old Californian recorded three victories during his streak, giving up fewer than three runs on six occasions. Velasquez, who never has faced San Francisco, is 4-1 with his lone career shutout and a 1.50 ERA at Citizens Bank Park this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Phillies were without two pitchers Wednesday as Aaron Nola was scratched from his scheduled start and placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow while fellow RHP Jeanmar Gomez was put on the paternity list, although he is expected to be back with the team on Thursday.

2. San Francisco has lost 13 of its 17 contests since the All-Star break.

3. Philadelphia recalled RHPs Phil Klein and Michael Mariot from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and both made their debut with the club, with the former yielding four runs over five frames while getting the start and the latter working a perfect frame of relief.

Preview: White Sox at Tigers

GAME: Chicago White Sox (51-56) at Detroit Tigers (59-48)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, August 04 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Detroit Tigers received quite the power surge from one returning star on Wednesday and would love for another in Thursday afternoon's series finale against the visiting Chicago White Sox. Sidelined with a month-long absence due to a right neck strain, Jordan Zimmermann will make his much-awaited return on Thursday as the red-hot Tigers vie for their ninth straight win and a series sweep of their American League Central adversary.

Zimmermann would like to follow in the footsteps of J.D. Martinez, who returned from an elbow fracture to belt the first pitch he saw into the seats for a pinch-hit homer in Wednesday's 2-1 win. The 28-year-old Martinez, who will be making his first start since June 16, is 13-for-24 with two homers and nine RBIs and eight runs scored versus Chicago this season. While the Tigers have moved within two games of division-leading Cleveland, the White Sox have dropped three in a row and six of seven on their eight-game road trip. Veteran Justin Morneau homered for the second time in four outings on Wednesday to improve to 5-for-16 with two homers and four RBIs against Detroit this season.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, CSN Chicago, FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox LH Jose Quintana (8-8, 2.89 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Jordan Zimmermann (9-4, 3.95)

Quintana answered a disastrous June with an impressive July, posting a 3-0 mark with a 1.95 ERA in five starts. The 27-year-old Colombian settled for a pair of no-decisions in his last two outings, despite scattering three hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings versus Detroit on June 24. Quintana followed that up by permitting one run and striking out nine in 6 2/3 frames at Minnesota on Friday.

Zimmermann allowed just one run in a pair of rehab starts with Triple-A Toledo and will look to get back on track versus Chicago, against which the 30-year-old posted a pair of victories in June. Zimmermann allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings in a 10-3 romp over the White Sox on June 3 before laboring through seven frames in an 11-8 win just 11 days later. The veteran likely will be on a pitch count Thursday after exiting following just 78 being thrown in his second rehab start with the Mud Hens.

WALK-OFFS

1. Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler has four singles in this series and 18 hits total versus Chicago this season.

2. White Sox SS Tim Anderson is 0-for-9 with two strikeouts in this series after erupting for 10 hits in his previous two sets against the Tigers.

3. Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos had an RBI double on Wednesday, marking his ninth hit versus Chicago in 2016.

PREDICTION: Tigers 3, White Sox 1
